Guest fountainhall Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 This starts in March I saw the ads. The question is, though - if they start installation in March, when will they finish? I remember when Cathay has introduced several 'innovations' in the past, and they have taken years to complete. Singapore Airlines, in the other hand, would advertise which routes had the new seats or whatever, and the finish date for completion over the whole fleet. Actually those 'new' CX seats are merely a variation on the herring-bone layout flat bed ones they presently have (similar to those on Virgin Atlantic), except they have switched the angle as a result of a huge number of complaints from passengers. I found the old ones great if I was on my own, but travelling with a friend or companion, it was impossible to chat with them as each seat was a unit on its own. Looking at the photos, I cannot see that there is much improvement. To chat with your companion, you'll still have to lean forward quite a bit. On the other hand, the cabin does not seem to have the cramped feel of the present layout. I wonder what CX is doing about its economy seats which have come in for even more criticism. These do not recline. Instead, the whole seat slides slightly forward. That has the benefit of not having someone in front push their seat back into your 'space'. But it also makes flying really difficult for those with longish legs as these then hit the seat in front. I really fail to understand how long established airlines get these things so wrong! Quote
Guest Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 Those business class seats look good, but it's still a very expensive way to travel. Need to earn more money. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Most business class product nowadays is better than first used to be 15 years ago - apart from the quality of the food and wines. I jumped the gun on Cathay’s schedule for installing the new business class seats. I doubt if anyone in the airline’s hierarchy had read my comment, but within a couple of hours I had an email in my business mailbox with information that installation will be complete by February 2013 – but only on the A330s and B777s. So it seems the fleet of A340s and more than 20 B744s will still have the old seating layout as these aircraft are gradually phased out. Quote
