TotallyOz Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 The Justice Department said late Friday that it had cleared the planned $3 billion merger between United Airlines and Continental, lifting the biggest regulatory hurdle to the creation of the world Quote
Guest GaySacGuy Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 I spoke with a Continental flight attendant about two weeks ago, and she said then that it was looking like a done deal. She said that the flight crews had already reached agreement and merged their groups, but the flight attendants were still talking. I hope it is a good thing...time will tell. Usually less competition means higher prices, but there may be enough others in the international market to keep the prices under control. Quote
Guest travelerjim Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 GT, That's more good news for Southwest Airlines! They got 8 slots at NYC LGA ...La Guardia Airport, which means the flying public will gain lower costs for flights in and out of NYC. And, United has been a leader in lowering airfare costs to and from Bangkok, which has forced Delta and others to match the fares or lose the sale. I flew Continental many times over many years... was my airline of choice. Great experiences! And when they were SkyTeam partners with Northwest Air, I flew through the Houston Continental hub IAH non-stop to NRT Tokyo...another great flight with better service than NW in coach. tj Quote
Guest GaySacGuy Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 Southwest seems to be doing ok. Flew with them in June..Las Vegas to Sacramento.. and had a really nice flight. They are NOT charging for one checked bag or carry ons, so that makes them even cheaper. Quote

Thank You Southwest Air! tj It is down to only one checked bag free per person, and the usual carry on at no cost. I hope they maintain that!! Quote
