Guest travelerjim Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Looks like another Pattaya Police Chief is going to try to reign in the local Baht Bus Cooperative... with designated routes stickers and fewer buses on streets.. Tried same-same before...to no avail.. But here is the story: Pattaya One News: http://www.pattayaone.net/pattaya-news/27190/baht-bus-cooperative-meeting-with-pattaya-police-chief/ The Pattaya Police Chief called a meeting with senior officials from the Pattaya Baht Bus Cooperative on Wednesday to discuss problems encountered with Baht Buses by members of the public and the Police. Guest Patexpat Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Again? Sigh. The more things change, the more .... Quote
Guest GaySacGuy Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 It hasn't worked before...what are they going to do different to make it work this time??? Where the police really need to reel in the Baht Bus is in Phuket...They are out of control and charging an arm and a leg to go nowhere! Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Good luck trying to get these louts to comply with anything. They go where they want when they want and charge whatever they can get. They also control the "taxi meters" that refuse to use the meters in Pattaya. Quote

I think it's a 200 baht minimum to start their engines now. I haven't used them since my first trip there. I use a meter taxi to go from the airport. Otherwise, I walk everywhere. If I need to go to another town, I grab one of the guys with hire cars displaying the "taxi" signs. It still costs more than it should though... more than in Bangkok. Yeah, the other thing is meter taxis aren't allowed in Patong Beach for some reason. I've never been able to get one, other than by calling for one... Freaking tuk tuk mafia. I heard there was an altercation with tuk tuk drivers blockading a wharf and preventing US Navy sailors from leaving their ships because they wanted to use organised minibuses instead of individual tuk tuks to get into town recently. Absolute f*cksticks. Quote

Guest beachlover Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 Yep... and sadly there doesn't look like any reason for change anytime soon. What happened to the jet ski scam thing? Did the big reform (after the incident with the British Royal Marines being scammed was broadcast on the "Big Trouble in Thailand") make any difference? Are they still scamming tourists as before or has this stopped? Quote
