Guest travelerjim Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Looks like the Thai baht keeps on getting stronger... and other currencies weaker... Why? The Hell if I know! I just know that when I retired 4 years ago... The Thai baht was 40 to 1 US $... Now it looks like the US $ will soon be at 30 The TMB Thai Military Bank today was at 31.21 THB for 1 US$ Today's rates from Bangkok Bank..as in Bangkok Post this am... Currency /Baht Bank Note Buy Sell USD 31.12 31.77 GBP 48.31 49.90 EUR 39.47 40.70 JPY 36.16 37.61 HKD 3.95 4.15 23-08-10 at 8:30 More Quote
Guest GaySacGuy Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Let's not go to 30....Let's stop at 31 as the absoulute bottom. I think that the Thai fish /shrimp farmers will be in big trouble if it drops any lower, as they will price themselves out of the international marker. Quote

My Boston Univ Professor friend of mine and I often chat about the Thai baht vs $$$ exchange rates in our financial planning for retirement. When the $$$ was 40...35THB was agreed as the base for planning... it now has now become 30THB... and we could go back down to the rate it was before the Thai finance crisis of 1996-97.. to 25 Thai Baht per 1 US $. Unthinkable??? ... "Hold your hat and grab your ass", as one old friend would yell out...as we were boating in our 16' boat... in San Diego Harbor... as he would see a BIG WAKE coming our way from a passing ship. tj Quote
