Is Thailand or Brazil a safer place to visit

I'll walk you through it.

1. Turn on your IPAD

2. Go to Google and type Bangkok Population and you will find the metropolitan population to be just under 12 million people according to Wikipedia.

3. Now repeat step 2 but replace Bangkok with Sao Paulo and you will find again according to Wikipedia that Sao Paulo metropolital population is just over 11 million.

If you read a little further you will find that Bangkok 's metropolitan area is about 1/2 the size of Sao Paulo metropolitan area.

If you are having trouble ask your BF to get your glasses!!!!!

I read it and it means nothing to me. Over time I have found that lists are meaningless and so is this list. Go down to paragraphs from where this list is mentioned by Wikipedia and it says the Metropolitan population of Sao Paulo is just over 11 million.

What am I to believe. What Wikipedia says in its description or a list it points a link to that is almost 4 years old.

I will believe Wikipedia and GT can believe the stupid list that they mention and we can both say we are right.

But back to the original discussion. If you compare the prices of Hotels in Brazil versus comparable Hotels in Thailand, nobody can argue the fact that Hotels are far more expensive in Brazil!!!! Visit, it is a great country with many wonderful sights but it is more expensive and more dangerous!!!

Thank you for conceding I am right with the largest city debate. It takes a big man to step up and admit he is wrong. Thank you.

I will also agree with you that it is a wonderful place to visit and many wonderful sights. I do not think a comparison should be made between Sao Paulo and Bangkok or even Rio and Bangkok or Pattaya. They are just not good comparisons.

If you stay in Rio or Sao Paulo, the price for a nice hotel is going to be more than you pay for a nice hotel in Bangkok or Pattaya. If you are willing to stay away from the beach area, you will pay less. As I told Firecat on the phone 10 minutes ago, I would not stay at most of those places in Brazil but I would also not stay at most of the hotels in Pattaya either. There are only a handful of hotels I would stay at in Pattaya. There are 40 or more in Rio or Sao Paulo I would stay at.

That being said, it is to each his own. Some people like high end hotels. Some like great restaurants. Some like nice clothes. I am in the first group only. I do not like expensive places to eat or expensive clothes. I do like a nice place to stay at night. I am willing to pay more for that that most. If I had to compare Rio to Thailand, I'll most likely pay 50-75 a night more in Brazil than I would in Thailand. If I were doing a long stay, that would make a major difference for me. If a week or two, it would not be a problem.

When I go to Paris, my hotel is over 400 Euro's per night. I don't think I could compare it to Bangkok or Pattaya. They are all such different places and reasons for going there.

I am sure that PattayaMale did not want this much information about the two places. But, here you go. :) If you have further questions, please ask. I am happy to provide accurate up to date information from Wiki as much as possible. ;)

I know at some point you will admit you have to pay $350 to stay at the Intercontinental in Sao Paulo and that rate is almost 3 times what you pay in Bangkok. Not $50-$75 but $200 more. Trying to say that Rio has 40 Hotels you would stay at is ridiculous. I can name all the ones you did stay at and will not again. That will cut it down to maybe 5 that you would stay at, probably only 3. Sao Paulo I don't know so well so I won't argue the point but at those prices they better be better then the Peninsula in Bangkok and of course they are not!!!!

Now as to places you have stayed in Pattaya . You have rented homes and apartments in Pattaya that are far nicer then anything you can rent in Brazil and for a fraction of the price. For 1 month stays there are fabulous options in Pattaya and Bangkok. Many of those same options are available for 2 weeks

Zero options at anywhere near the same price in Brazil

Few people fly half way around the world for 1 week so lets say a 2 week vacation will cost you substantially more in Brazil then Thailand no matter what level of Hotel is your usual choice!!!

Again not to persuade you to not visit Brazil. Just realize the same level of comfort will cost you substantially more. If you can afford it do it!!!

My last stay in Sao Paulo cost me 175 USD per night at the Intercontinental.

My last stay at the Bangkok Intercontinental Hotel was 6200 baht or about 197.00.

My last stay at the Rio Intercontinental Hotel was 190 USD.

As a short one night say last minute this week on Friday night at the Intercontinental Hotels:

Bangkok is: 5610 baht or 178.00 USD

Rio is: 238 USD

Sao Paulo is: 257 USD

I would like to visit Brazil someday too.

If I can work out my finances, I wonder if GayThailand would be willing to get the Intercontinental to take care of me like they do him. I am more than happy to have GT take all the points for my stay. Of course I will cover all my hotel expenses and other expenses

Also I will be happy to pay a very modest fee for you to arrange an orggie with some of those boys you pictured. If you can do that, I would not care how far from the beach the hotel is! I am staying in the hotel with the BOYS!!

How about it GT?

There is one other thing. If I get shot will you also take care of MY boyfriend??

Yes, sounds good.

Yes, of course. All you have to do is ask. :)

Don't worry about getting shot. I have only been robbed at gunpoint there twice. It is really not that dangerous. It is more like show and tell.

GT I love you but stop quoting these ridiculous prices that are not available. I just looked at random dates for the next 6 months in Sao Paulo. The lowest night I got was $302 ++ , some were more. The rates you quote are not available to us. BTW the ICE website brags that no one can offer a lower rate then they offer and if you look on Agoda you will find that is true.

You take what is on offer to you and act like that is available to any poster here. It is not. Just like no poster here will be able to bring boys to their room in Brazil if they are staying at a 4 or 5 star property. The rules are different when you are well known to the Hotel but those rules don't apply to the masses.

I have stayed at many of the 5 star properties in Bangkok and no one cares who or how many you take to your room.

I have stayed at 3 ,5 star properties in Rio where it was impossible to bring back someone to my room even in the day time. In fact I know that happened to you which is why you moved way out of the Beach area to the Intercontinental.

Also the Intercontinental is only a 4 star Hotel and the 5 star Hotels are much higher priced then the Intercontinental

And as far as Sao Paulo compared to Bangkok. No matter which search engine you use, Agoda, Expedia etc there are far more 5 Star Hotels in Bangkok then there are in Sao Paulo.

Guess little Bangkok compares easily. Better and more 5 star Hotels at 1/2 the price.

You apology will be accepted by PM so you don't have to embarrass yourself. LOL

LOL I love you too Firecat. I have attached snapshots of the http://www.ichotelsgroup.com website for the dates I mentioned above. They are not doctored in any way. I was not logged into their site. These rates are available to anyone for the Friday Night I used in my quote above. Please verify for yourself.

Apologies are accepted via PM. :)

I have been to Rio many times. You don't have to stay at the Intercontinental, but wherever you do stay the hotel rates are definitely more than in Thailand. Having said that, everything else is about the same as what you would pay in Thailand. The tips to the boys are even about the same. I've never been robbed, but I don't act stupid when I'm there either. I meet the guys at the saunas where they have rooms, so I don't take them to my hotel. I can attest to the fact that the guys are very sexy indeed. In fact, I'm returning this November for a return visit.

I would agree with everything you said!!! Now if GT would just admit that Hotels are considerably more expensive in Brazil, we could let this thread die

I do NOT agree with the word Considerably. :) To me, considerably would be more than 100 US more per night. However, I do agree with everything else that he said. ;) At least we can agree on the rest. :)

And, for your amusement, I have attached some photos of the Boys from Brazil. They just all happen to be taken at the Intercontinental Hotel in Rio. :) A clean beach, tons of beautiful boys and greenery. The sandy area is huge. I wonder if you are going to try to compare that to Pattaya?

Hey... Some of these boy are hot! I'm jealous...

Rio fascinates me... a massive mega-city perched right on a beach surrounded by towering lush green mountains... cute boys everywhere. Is it really that stunning?

Shit, I have to tear myself away from Asia and go!

Well, firecat69's solved the mystery then. GT is a regular customer so he gets 'corporate' rates at these hotels. Damn.

Look... $150 a night in Bangkok gets me a Club room at the Sofitel with executive lounge access included.

In Rio, it looks like that gets me a room in a budget dump called Atlantico or something... to get something similar to the Sofitel Club room in Rio it would be $300+ ... That's double what Bangkok costs... an extra $150. I would call that "substantially more expensive."

What is the issue with bringing boys back to your room for the night anyway? Does that mean if I meet a cute boy in a bar or club I can't invite him back to my hotel room?... Where the hell do I bring him to then?

OK Once again I will prove you wrong. Not by looking at dates 7 days from now which is ridiculous. Anyone who travels knows that Hotels lower their rates as the date approaches. In fact those rate GT quoted can probably be gotten for 1/2 of that on Priceline.

But most people who are planning a trip 1/2 way around the world make their reservations months in advance.

So here are the rates for the Intercontinental Hotel on the 10th of the month starting in November.

November Rio - $272 Sao Paulo $386 Bangkok $155

December Rio $194 Sao Paulo $268 Bangkok $140

January Rio $207 Sao Paulo $302 Bangkok $160

February Rio $207 Sao Paulo $284 Bangkok $185

March Rio $243 Sao Paulo $284 Bangkok $185

Like I said considerably more expensive. Anywhere form 30% - 150% more

Those are the facts and they cannot be refuted!!!!!

Your facts are randomly picking dates out of the air and plugging them in. If that is the way you shop for airfare (and I know you and it isn't) then you need to get another game plan.

Facts:

With no long term stay commitments and no special deals from any of the 3 hotels and ONLY booking using their website:

My last stay in Sao Paulo cost me 175 USD per night at the Intercontinental.

My last stay at the Bangkok Intercontinental Hotel was 6200 baht or about 197.00.

My last stay at the Rio Intercontinental Hotel was 190 USD.

Those are facts. Whether or not you choose to believe them or not is totally up to you. I honestly don't care at this point as your numbers games are wasted time. Anyone with an Internet connection can plug in dates and get numbers they want. I have been to Brazil more in the last year than most people have in their life. Feel free to say my numbers are bullshit and try to pick other dates out of the air. That is OK by me. I'll still go back to Brazil and I'll end up getting rates of under 200 every night I stay.

Tsk Tsk Tsk!!!

Whether you like it or not , that is how most people make a reservation . They pick the dates for their trip and then start to look at prices . As others have agreed in this thread , there is no comparison between Hotel prices in Thailand and Brazil. It costs much more for the same level of Hotel in Brazil. Pick a date , any date at least 3 months from now and compare the prices. No comparison. In fact pick any date you like from November to April and find Sao Paulo for under $200 and I will buy you dinner at the restaurant that does not serve food in Rio. LOL You have no chance!!!!!!

Will you do the same if I find a rate of under 200 for Rio?

As I said before, the Intercontinental Hotel in Sao Paulo is a business hotel. Having stayed there on over 40 occasions, I am the only one there that wears shorts. For breakfast, I am the only one there that is not wearing a suit. As little as I care about what others think, I often feel out of place in this hotel.

They also have major commitments with the airlines and I see groups of flight attendants and pilots EVERY day I stay there. They stay near capacity most times of the year. Sao Paulo is one of the busiest cities on earth for new businesses to open because of the strength of the R. The country is stable and the cost to manufacture is cheap.

Buy me a dinner if I find the under 200 rate in Rio. PLEASE!!!! I am broke and I need to eat!

Posted

I am not stupid. (really) My own list has Rio under $200 one month. All you would have to do is copy my own post and collect.

Sorry I know things are tough but anyways even if I agreed you would have to get that restaurant to serve food and they don't.

Good for your diet though!!! LOL
