Where can I find Ketosis sticks in Pattaya?

Recommended Posts

I am trying to loose some weight by using the Atkins method, low carbohydrates. It has worked fairly well so far as I have lost 12 kilos on a bit over 3 weeks, but the rapid weight loss is now down to a crawl. I still would like to loose another 24 kilos.

The Atkins book suggests that I use "ketosis/lipolysis" sticks which are just strips of paper that will turn purple when you urinate on them if you are in Ketosis.

I checked a couple places (really hard to explain it to most Thai pharmacies), but at first they think I am talking about strips that show drug use.

Anyone know where I can purchase these in Pattaya?

I don't know for sure, but I think your best bet would be at Fascino. The biggest one in Pattaya is on Pattaya Nua between Third Road and Sukhumvit Road on the south side of the road.

Four kilos a week is way too much for a sustainable weight loss and may even be dangerous; I have never seen any reputable diet program have a maximum loss target of more than 1 kilo per week.

Combining lots of exercise with a crash diet - and that's what 4 kilo a week is - can harm more than help you because of a rebound effect as well as medical issues that can arise.

After looking for quick fixes so I could have a 20 year old's body (stop that!), I'm thinking it is lifestyle changes that work and not fad diets.

Fad diets can harm people's health, cause physical discomfort, and lead to the regain of weight soon after loss. They go against the principle of good nutrition, which is eating a balanced diet that includes a variety of foods.

The Aiken's Diet is considered a fad diet by many.

I would have to agree with everything Rainwalker has said. Eat a balance meal but low caloric intake and jumpstart your metabolism by exercise. Stay away from the pills and fad diets.

Some people, like me, have a carb intolerance. Every doctor I have seen has told me the only way to loose the extra weight I have is to go on a modified Atkins plan with 20 grams of maximum carbs per day. I have yet to do this and thus I keep gaining weight. Everyone's body is so different and some meal plans work for someone but they don't for others. I love carbs too much to give them up. When I do, I'll shrink. But, I would not discount any plan that works for that particular individual.

I am surprised to hear many doctors are recommending a Atkins-type diet. I thought your experience with the weight loss camp would recommend increase in activity and metabolism while limiting caloric intake.

You are right. BUT, my last stay at the camp was 4 months with 6 plus hours of exercise per day and no more than 1500 calories on any day. Total weight loss was around 10 pounds. Not sufficient for the time and calories burned. After going to many of LA's top doctors they all agreed that a very low carb meal plan was for me. It is NOT for everyone. But, for my body, that is what is required. To date, I have not decided I want to do this so I have not gone down that road. I still exercise daily.

The concept of weight loss is easy: burn more calories that you take in. The practice is where the problem comes in.

You are right and you are wrong. That works for the majority. But, not for everyone. It is not that simple.

I am about to try the Adkins type diet...cutting out most carbs, and living on meat, vegetables, and salad. I used it several years ago and had good luck...just can't stay with it forever. I have lost a lot of weight over the years, but I have gained just a little more than I have lost.

Hope you do good on the Adkins...it is the only diet where I know that you can eat your fill of the right things, and still loose weight.

I believe that the only safe way to lose weight is to totally change our eating patterns. It is those that led to increased weight so, even if we lose weight on a diet, if we then go back to our old eating habits, the weight will go back too. If we eat less than we need, we will lose weight. When all the excess weight has gone, keep to the same healthy diet but with slightly increased levels of food to maintain your weight and say goodbye to yo-yo dieting.

I actually did a bit of research before starting this Low-Carb approach. There is a science behind the reason to eat less carbs and then of course in the "Dr. Atkins' NEW Diet Revolution" the author provides good statistics. An example is French obesity compared to the US Obesity rate 20 years ago. The French ate alot of "fatting Food" but were not obese. The French tried to hold out against the fast food trend, but when it did take hold, their obesity rate went up.

The problem I am finding is although I have been very faithful to the diet, I miss bread, pasta and fruit. Hopefully when i go to the 2 of the 4 phases it will allow me to satisfy some cravings.

Exercise is very important, I understand, but why is it so hard for some of us to do on a regular basis? Dose posting to message boards count as exercise?

If you do your posting while on the treadmill it will count, otherwise not.

PM has been looking at a triangular treadmill...

extending from his house to Boyztown...

to Sunee Plaza...back to home.

I suggest he just get a good set of "roller blades"

and roll right into each venue area...

for good exercise and tempting eye candy as a bonus

Coincidently, I received a Newsletter this evening from my health insurer Anthem Blue Cross. I was surprised to see that they were being fairly positive about the Atkins Diet and mentioned that many people had great success and lowered their bad cholesterol on a low carb, high protein diet.

Low-Carb Diets Improve Cholesterol Long Term

Low-Carb Diet Edges Out Low-Fat Diet in Raising 'Good' Cholesterol

By Salynn Boyles

WebMD Medical News Reviewed by Laura J. Martin, MD

Aug. 2, 2010 -- Low-carbohydrate weight loss diets have an edge over low-fat diets for improving HDL cholesterol levels long term, according to a study funded by the National Institutes of Health.

Dieters who followed low-carb or low-fat plans for two years along with a lifestyle modification program lost the same amount of weight -- on average about 7% of their body weight or 15 pounds.

But throughout the two-year study, low-carbohydrate dieters had significantly increased HDL, or "good," cholesterol levels compared to low-fat dieters.

Heart Risk Factors Improved

During the first six months of the study, the low-fat dieters had greater reductions in LDL , or "bad," cholesterol, but the differences did not persist over time.

The study is not the first to suggest that low-carb weight loss programs like the Atkins diet are safe and may be slightly better than low-fat diets for reducing risk factors for heart disease .

But it is one of the longest to show this, says lead researcher Gary D. Foster, PhD, of Temple University

What ever works is what works but the key isn't a diet, it is lifestyle changes that incorporate healthy eating and exercise.

The Mayo Clinic has this on their site:

"A low-carb diet is generally used to lose weight. You might choose a low-carb diet because you enjoy the types and amounts of food featured in the diet
