New Banners at Top of Website

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have been working all night on a banner section for the top of the website. The general consensus from members here seem to advise us to remove the boys (webcam boys) from the top of the site. We are going to give this a test run for a few months. We are going to replace this with links to gay run businesses in Thailand. We have selected a few that we will be putting up soon to test the new look. We ask for member's suggestions and advice on this.

We hope to make this site a wonderful and comfortable community for all. We hope the new banner area helps the majority and we are willing to test this to see if successful. We will reserve the right to make changes to this in the future if there are no businesses interested in the new area.

Someone in another thread made a comment about nude guys on the top banner. Do you view our main banner as too explicit? Do we need to tone this down?

Thank you for your comments.

Hugs,

My unsolicited advice: You will get many many suggestions from well wishers. Some will be good and some will be not so good for you. Count to 10 (or a week) before you make any major changes. Your enthusiasm is much needed and I know you will do a fantastic job on this new area of the site. Just take all the suggestions and store them and make changes slowly. Keep up the great work!

Personally, I have no objection to the guys in the banner not being all Asian. Variety is the spice of life. For what my 2 cents is worth, I would suggest keeping the banner as is.

I like a mix of guys, as well, although sometimes there are no Asian guys at all in the banner. I guess the owner of the ad may do as he pleases. Makes no difference to me.

My suggestion re the banners depends almost totally on which market you intend to direct the site in future. If is it to westerners, then western guys, with perhaps some Asians in the mix, may be more 'productive'. If you are going to try and attract some of the increasing number of Asians who come to Thailand to meet Thais and other Asians, I favour more Asian pics. After all, Thailand is in Asia. It's not Brazil!

It's interesting (I think) to remember that when the banners were introduced, there was a considerable outcry about western guys appearing on an Asia site!

I don't see what the big deal is about the banner. It's clearly a link to Flirt 4 Free which offers cam chat for no cost to young men from several countries - and more explicit chat with the purchase of private time. For those of us living in a land where boys dance naked displaying their aroused wares it seems silly, to me, to object to what is just a service offering chat with half (or less) clad boys.

Personally I like what is proposed, especially if they are multiple links. Web cam sites never really turned me on anyway.

Will the advertised business change on a regular basis?

I prefer it. Perhaps you could have a headline - something like "Must Visit Venues in Thailand" - that will make it more attractive to advertisers and encourage those new to the site to click and find out more.

This is my vision for the new top of the site. What are your thoughts?

Looks really nice...much better than the guys I am looking at above this post. If you need to put an add for contacts/etc., then try to make it Asian.

I would go for a more substantial revamp.

Larger title, a little more colour & importantly fresh higher resolution pictures.

As examples, the following have some good points.

Ricequeen is easily the nicest of the other sites I checked. Big title at the top, then clear menu tabs followed by cute & gay pictures that don't frighten me off with the look of a commercial porno site. A slightly narrower band of pictures would probably work.

Travelfish also looks good, although the blank part above the picture is a waste. Nice picture, although if you were selecting a "lads in trunks" pic for GT, they need to be a bit older.

Cambodiaout does nice colours.

After reading all the advice, take your time & do what YOU want.

We put 6 banner ads we created to get started. The first 6 businesses that purchase them will have the space as long as they want to keep them. The ones currently live are places we have visited in Bangkok. Both YaYa and Heart2000 are ones that GayThailand suggested to us. All 6 will change if we get advertisers interested in them.

This was done in 2 days time and we have not contacted anyone for advertising. We will not do that until we do more work on the site.

The rates are simple:

Month to Month: 3500 baht

6 months in advance: 17,000 baht

12 months in advance 28,000 baht

Make the whole website wider.

Streamline everything to cut down on clutter.

Make better use of space. Use a good skilled designer who is good at making a design with a lot of different elements look clean and clear.

Brighter colours are a good idea too... Perhaps a new colour scheme/palette would help.

The quality of banners can compromise idea...

They are "nothing" about "nothing". Besides they flash, they have almost no info on.

What it is? Where it is? What in the "message" of banner? They will not "sell" venues to visitors of GT. But in one month advertisers will come to you and ask: why I didn't get any deal from banner?

I think it will be good idea to be more selective in quality of banners: I saw many cases when owners of business don't understand what must be on their banner and how it must looks to be working banner.

True... Most of these aren't really banner ads, they're just logos. Most of the business owners don't know what makes a good banner advertisement.

Also, having 6 little square banners up there is really non-constructive because they all drown each other out. It's really distracting and clutters up the space.

It would be much better just to have one big leaderboard banner position and put the six advertisers on reload rotation (they rotate each time the page reloads). This way, at least that one banner displayed each time has a chance of cutting through the clutter and it makes the site look much less cluttered.

A rather unfair comment IMHO. Scooby has made it plain that this is just a test to -

- get away from the pics of western guys which many of us found more than odd, and

- try something different without spending a ton of cash on it at this stage.

Frankly, I am not sure the venues actually paid anything or even had much of a say in what is put in there. But in any event, one click and you get straight to the establishment's own website.

Once a new design format has been created, I'm sure there will be many more beneficial changes.

. . . which more or less bears out my point - unless I have missed something.

That might be true... I guess we'll see what comes from paying advertisers.

Hopefully they change it to a rotating leaderboard banner rather than 6 tiny banners though.
