The IPad saved my life

I did not have high speed Internet all day yesterday and am still waiting for the tech to come. However, I found I was able to check in on sites and e-mail from my IPad. This made life very easy for me and it is the best investment I have made. This little gadget surely is going to take off when it makes it to Thailand. As a back up, I found it was sufficient and reliable. E-mails are a breeze. Websites loaded slow at first but when you left them open and went back, they were fast to load. I was impressed once again with Apple's new IPad.

No, I bought a DTAC sim card and for about 600 baht per month I get unlimited Internet on the IPad. It is a DTAC blackberry plan. I had purchased this when I came to Thailand on this trip and didn't use it very much but it was nice to check out e-mail on the IPad when I was out for a long night. What I learned yesterday is that if I turned off the WiFi, the DTAC got dramatically faster.

I haven't tried the IPad, but have one of the new generation Kindles ordered from Amazon. It won't ship till early September, but is suppose to have wireless that will work here in Thailand and allow me to download books. The new generation is the same size, just minor improvements.

I can use wifi, 3G and tethering from my HTC phone and sync my computer to certain applications and use voice commands to open and close applications and type letters and email. Since it is Bluetooth, wifi, I can send things I need to print to my wireless printer.

 

So take that I-pad. Android is on the move to over take and destroy you....

Android will fail just like all the other Apple imitators. Anyways compare Android to an Iphone is a fairer comparison. It cannot even begin to compare with the Ipad for computer uses. Its like comparing a 12" B&W TV with a 50" LCD.

 

Take your pick Ipad or Iphone 4. They sell more in a week then Android sells in 6 weeks

 

The customer has and will continue to speak. Stick with web browsers Google, you are in over your head when it comes to phones.

 

Imagine how many Iphones would be sold if Apple had not chosen the worst phone company in ATT???

why do you think Android is just trying to imitate Apple - 12 months ago handsets based on early versions of Android like 1.5 and 1.6 had features that Apple is only just introducing into iOS now - and their philosophical stances are significantly different! while the year of the Linux desktop may not arrive for a while, they year of the Linux phone is I think almost here!

your source for this? because most of the stats that I have seen show new Android based phone handset sales significantly outpacing new iPhone sales (though there are a number of factors contributing to this) and comparing total smartphone market share Android is increasing and iOS is decreasing, but BlackBerry is still way in front!

 

wait till early next year when there are some serious Android tablets around, eg from Samsung and a few others, and we can talk real figures against the iPad as well

 

I am no Apple fanboi or Android fanboi so don't get me wrong - the iPhone and iPad will continue to sell well, and there is no denying the iPod, iPhone and iPad have redefined or created the market they are selling into, and you either like Apple's "walled garden" or Android's more open approach but you can't just dismiss one as an poor imitator of the other!

Huh? Your post doesn't make sense.

 

You do know Android is an operating system, not a phone don't you? And there are a LOT of phones, which have chosen to use Android.

 

The two other operating systems are Windows and Blackberry. Google is fantastic with developing software... Android is a dream to use.

 

Why are you so against other mobile phone operating system/smartphone makers? It's fantastic to have competition on the market. Apple isn't the ONLY good smartphone maker on the market. They've done well, granted, but Blackberry are extremely strong, as are HTC. I'd go for Blackberry or HTC any day.

the outcome of the "Oracle vs Google" lawsuit will be a good indicator of how well Google understands software development in today's complex environment!

 

up until now Google's track record with "software" is fairly checkered - while they do a good search engine and ad server Chrome is a fairly mediocre browser, and lets not talk about Wave, Buzz and most of Google Apps!

 

 

Android is a dream to use.

Don't know about whether the it's Google's Android or the customised version.

 

But I love Chrome. I can't use anything else now. It's just so light, quick and uncluttered. It has gone through phases where it was a bit unstable and prone to crash occasionally but on the whole it's a dream compared to IE and Firefox, in my opinion. Why the f*ck couldn't Microsoft have made something like this years ago? If Google could release a PC operating system this clean and uncluttered but as functional and reliable as Windows I'd be all over it...
