PattayaMale Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Is it possible to revamp the forums so instead of searching for things in different SE Asian countries there would be a forum SPECIFICALLY for travel tips and reports from China, Cambodia,Laos,Burma (Myanmar), Butan(?). Two reasons: First, members of the Gaythailand community have traveled to those countries and have some really great tips and interesting insight on those countries. Gay Travelers to Thailand are starting to think of taking short trip from Thailand to these other countries now that the flight cost is lower thanks to AirAsia and maybe when Tiger Air is up and running it may be even more competitive. Second, then could each forums have income generating links from AirAsia, Hotels, etc. Also, I think it may be worthwhile seeing if Bangkok Post, or other sources like that would be a paying link. I read the Post everyday and get some good travel ideas from the paper. Since GayThailand.com is a website and not just a message board having these additional forums would be of great help to the Gay Thailand Community. Quote
PattayaMale Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Choa thanks you for the compliment. As for your comment about me, an expression comes to mind, "the pot calling the kettle black" or something to the effect I think you got that right! Quote

This is a great idea. Many people use this board to get travel info, and having it broken down by country would be great. My first trip to Thailand, I took a side trip to Vietnam, and more information on the websites would have been great. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 "the pot calling the kettle black" I have heard that expression all my life and have used it too, but I started wondering if that is considered to be a racist remark. Quote
Guest Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 I have heard that expression all my life and have used it too, but I started wondering if that is considered to be a racist remark. According to Wiki: The phrase "The pot calling the kettle black" is an idiom used to accuse a person or thing of being marked with or guilty of the very thing they are pointing out. This may or may not be hypocritical or a contradiction. As generally understood, the person accusing is understood to share some quality with the target of their accusation. An alternative interpretation, recognized by some, but not all, sources is that the pot is sooty (being placed on a fire), while the kettle is clean and shiny (being placed on coals only), and hence when the pot accuses the kettle of being black, it is the pot Quote

An alternative interpretation, recognized by some, but not all, sources is that the pot is sooty (being placed on a fire), while the kettle is clean and shiny (being placed on coals only), and hence when the pot accuses the kettle of being black, it is the pot’s own sooty reflection that it sees: the pot accuses the kettle of a fault that only the pot has, rather than one that they share. Exactly http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/pot_calling_the_kettle_black Etymology There are two interpretations of this phrase,[1][2] though other sources give only the first interpretation.[3] In the first interpretation, it refers to the fact that both cast-iron pot's and kettle's bottoms turn equally black when hung over a fire, and thus the pot is accusing the kettle of a fault it shares. In the second, subtler interpretation, the pot is sooty (being placed on a fire), while the kettle is clean and shiny (being placed on coals only), and hence when the pot accuses the kettle of being black, it is the pot’s own sooty reflection that it sees: the pot accuses the kettle of a fault that only the pot has. Nothing racist at all. Quote

The "View New Content" option does not seem to include new content from all the forums. Quote
Guest Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 I admit the new banner area is growing on me. It does liven up the site. Quote
Guest buckeroo2 Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Are we talking about the same TOQ that use to live in Texass? Yes??? GT you need to get new glasses. Maybe you meant his Boyfriend is x-rated and sexy as they get! Maybe he meant that all his X's live in Texas Quote
Guest travelerjim Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 It seems that GayThailand is now G rated. Except for TOQ. He is as X rated and sexy as they get. Guest beachlover Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Why? How much does it cost you to operate this web site? I'm paying a grand total of $90 per year for everything involved in operating my board. There is an easy way to get rid of those ads. I think it only works if you use the Firefox browser. If you go to http://adblockplus.org/en and install their free software, you can right click on those images and prevent those ads from appearing at all. It blocks the source of the ads. Yeah but this website is a commercial site rather than a non-profit. It needs to make money. Especially since the new owners invested a sum of money in buying it. Quote
Guest beachlover Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Whatever you do, get a good user interface designer in to make it very simple and clear. It's way too cluttered now and you often have to look around for a few moments to find buttons and features. It took me a while to figure out where to register and login. Users like clean simple sites where they can instantly see what they need to do to participate. Quote

Guest beachlover Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 I couldn't say so specifically without actually doing it for you. That's why I suggested you get a good designer in. They should be experienced in making complex user-interfaces appear clean, simple, uncluttered and easy to follow. The problem with a website like this is it might actually be more headache-inducing to 'renovate' and fix it up then to design it from scratch... though not necessarily cheaper. Quote
Moses Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 very few tips: - "extract" points of "user's menu" in row - it is hard to find settings and other stuff... - rename some points of menu: " view new content" to "read new content only", put close "marк all as read" and place out RSS icon - it confuse ppl - many should think if RSS is about to view new content via RSS... - "Message Center Policies" should be renamed to "Forum's policies" - terms(!) = why in one place it is named "Forum" and in another "Message Centre"? Guest beachlover Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 GayThailand/Scooby... Gay Thailand is a topic with a lot of breadth and depth. It's also very dynamic and always changing. Instead of fiddling around with static pages with a fixed structure or a linear forum structure, why not put a Wiki on this website? See if you can do something with this software package: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki Look at www.wikia.com for ideas (it's like a hosting site for user-started wikis, like Blogspot). Wikipedia and Wikitravel are the two best wikis I know of. Quote
