TotallyOz Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 I have a sweet tooth. The BF does not. But, I got him to help me with some Rice Krispy Treats today and he loved the taste. All the ingredients are in Pattaya. Heat 2 sticks butter Mix in 3 bags of Marshmellows until most are melted. 1/2 jar of Peanut Butter and mix this in until it is mixed really well Put in 2 small boxes of Rice Krispy Cereal. Stir and put in a pan to cool. Great a glass of Milk. Think about your childhood. I plan on bringing a pan to Salt and Pepper for a late lunch desert treat. Tomorrow if anyone sees me, ask for a taste. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 I have never had peanut butter in them. MMMM Where did you find Rice Krispies? Quote
Guest Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 I have never had peanut butter in them. MMMM Where did you find Rice Krispies? Saw them in Villa Market tonight and grabbed them. I have been wanted the beloved to try these for ages. He loved them and as they were hot, we got really sticky and strings of marshmallows are all over my shirt. We just laughed and laughed as my beard needed to be sent through a car wash to get clean. The Peanut Butter is the key to greatness! I grew up on government PB and my family put it in everything. Bob Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Ah, rice krispy treats. I tend to take them with me when traveling as they are a tasty snack, weigh next to nothing, and never screw up your stomach. Never had the peanut butter variety, though.... Quote
Guest Patexpat Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 would chocolate rice krispies be over doing it? You can certainly get them in Foodland or Friendship - prob other places too! Quote
Guest MonkeySee Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 I love rice krispy treats but have never had the peanut butter or chocholate variety. I will have to broaden my horizons. Quote
Guest GaySacGuy Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 I used to take the Rice Krispie treats with me backpacking in the US, becasue they were full of sugar and carbs, and were very light to carry as mentioned above. The homemade ones with chocolate chips are my favorite...never tried peanut butter. Haven't seen Rice Krispies in Ubon, but will have to check it out....don't know about marshmellows here either, but will have to look next shopping trip. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 You can make your own marshmallows if you can't find them. Quote
PattayaMale Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 Another variety is to use rice cakes if you can't find the cereal Rice Krispy. Not as good in my opinion but still works. Quote
Guest GaySacGuy Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Does anyone know a substitute for marshmellows in these treats??? I can't seem to find marshmellows here. Will have to check and see if Macro will order. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 I think Villa market carries them or you can make your own. Homemade Marshmallows 1/2 cup white sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 teaspoon corn syrup (light or dark works fine) 2/3 cup of water 2 packets of unflavored gelatin (about 2 tablespoons) 1 egg white Powdered sugar, if desired In a small saute pan, heat sugar, vanilla, corn syrup and 1/3 cup of water on high heat. Stir until sugar is dissolved, then stop stirring. Heat the mixture until it reaches 240 degrees using a candy thermometer, about 8 minutes. While the mixture is heating, dissolve the gelatin into the remaining 1/3 cup of water. Also, in a large mixing bowl, whip the egg white to soft peaks. Once the mixture has reached 240 degrees, pour it into the gelatin and water (you can do this in a medium-sized, heatproof bowl) and stir to combine. Allow to cool for about 3-4 minutes, and then pour the gelatin/sugar mixture in a slow stream into the whipped egg white, whipping constantly to incorporate. (This is pretty much impossible to do by hand, you need a hand mixer or a stand mixer, because the gelatin will start to set and get really stiff and difficult to whip). Whip the mixture until stiff peaks form. Pour into a prepared tray lined with parchment paper or powdered sugar, and refrigerate for about 2 hours. Remove from the fridge and cut the marshmallows into squares (or other shapes). Roll them in powdered sugar, if desired, and serve! Makes about 20 marshmallows. Quote

Guest beachlover Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 Great a glass of Milk. Think about your childhood. They might be better dipped in a glass of Baileys. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 I was recently at Makro and they have huge (1.7kg) bags of Kellogg's Rice Krispies. I think the price was nearly 400 baht. Because of lack of storage space I didn't buy any. Rice Krispies are only one of three cereals I really like. Quote
