Guest Patexpat Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 OK fellow Expats - who has noticed the new light controlled pedestrian crossing points springing up all over Pattaya? Haven't seen mention of them in any forum, and no doubt they will be switched on with no explanation of what to do to either pedestrian or driver! Sit back and watch the mayhem ;-) Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Sit back and watch the mayhem ;-) What mayhem? Nothing will change! Vehicles will still believe they have right of way and pedestrians will do their best to manoeuvre between them. Quote

I love your outlook! .... and when the pedestrian gets the green light and the traffic the red, AND you apply your quite correct observations to the mix .... I can see a foresee a few close calls! In Chiangmai, it's often more dangerous to try to cross the street where they have those light-controlled pedestrian crossings! Hell, sometimes I think there's some subliminal message being flashed in Thai to drivers that says: "Hey, time to squash that falang!" Quote

Guest beachlover Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 What do mean by "light-controlled" pedestrian crossings? Do you mean the ordinary traffic light crossings we are used to having in more developed countries? Quote
Guest GaySacGuy Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 What do mean by "light-controlled" pedestrian crossings? Do you mean the ordinary traffic light crossings we are used to having in more developed countries? Yeah...you know those little things that have red, yellow and green lights for the cars to stop for the people walking...and those white and orange signs to walk or not...That's what they mean by light-controlled crossings!! PattayaMale Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 I wondered what those were over on South Pattaya Road. They are not working yet. Anyone know who got the contract to install them? It is a good idea if they work. At some intersections they have the little "WALK" indicator, but people still do not yield to the pedestrians crossing Quote

Yeah, I'm just semi-surprised this is a new thing to Pattaya. I didn't notice they didn't have these before. Quote

Not really new to Pattaya..just new to the particular location. But, everywhere that they are in Pattaya, they are NOT to be trusted to stop anything. Quote
Guest beachlover Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 they are NOT to be trusted to stop anything. Wonderful insight... because I was just about to step out in front of a truck screaming towards the intersection at 60kms/hr with complete faith the lights would stop it LOL. Quote
