Suggestions for Advertising in Thailand

Recommended Posts

We are looking to place ads in Thai publications. I know of only 2. Thai Phun and Sticky Rice. Are there other places that we would be able to place GayThailand.com ads?

What for? Everybody and his brother already knows this web site. My free unsolicited advice would be to save your money for other things.

We hope to find a way to get more gay Thai men involved in the site (the profiles part of the website).

I understand that, but if you're looking for more gay Thai men, don't you think advertising in English language publications is kind of a strange way to go about it? You need to advertise in Thai language publications and web sites and you're going to need a Thai person who is bilingual and at least nearly fluent with English to help you create the kinds of ads you want.

I agree with you GayButton. But, I think they are going to need Thai guys who can also read and write English. Advertising in Thai language only may also be a waste.

Maybe so. I've offered my advice. Now I'm going to keep my nose out of it unless asked. People usually don't mind free advice once or twice. After that it becomes very annoying.

Open up as a club/organisation entry on Gayromeo and get (I think it is) ten members to link to your entry ... you will then get a rotating free ad on Gayromeo home page (displays in Thailand only).

A dear friend of mine started a wonderful Gay Magazine, now its beaten Advocate and the most read Gay Monthly Mag in the world, it manages to find its way in to the homes of the most upwardly mobile guys around the world, if you advertize with them, you will not need to advertize any where else I can assure you.

Pattaya is a strange place with some funny guys in it, I once introduce my friend to a successful guy who has a nice business in Pattaya, he said what liars you are, and when he found out he did really start "GAY TIMES" he was licking between his toes, to invite him to every function going lol

It was hinted at in the previous posts, but some emphasis might help. I think Gaybutton is quite right in pointing out that almost all the locals are already aware of the various message boards. But, I'm sure there's considerable interest in gay Thailand outside the country and many of those folks have most probably not stumbled onto the various forums. Advertising in English publications outside of Thailand might bring a whole new crop of users. Also, such sites as Gay.com and Gayromeo.com offer advertising with international readership. Not sure of the cost of such advertising, though.

Isn't the ranking on the google search a key factor in this day & age?

Searching by "gaythailand" this site is 4th.

Searching by "gay thailand", the site is in 9th place. Up one from yesterday (when I almost wrote this post). Maybe that's coincidence, or perhaps you have been working on that.

As for Thai nationals, what search engine is most popular in Thailand?

Thai Puan (I think that's the correct spelling) at least has some content in Thai, which I reckon would help to meet your objectives. If I were you, I'd concentrate less on publications than on websites. Several Thai dating sites have lists of websites, including the one below (bottom left). Strangely, given its huge number of Thai members, gayromeo is not there.

As others have suggested, you should also consider the big market of those who plan to travel to Thailand - and this is not limited to westerners. There is now a huge inflow of tourists from Asian countries. Quite a few are gay and many speak at least some english. Two widely-read sites to consider are -

http://www.fridae.com.

Although primarily for Chinese around the world, fridae has an extensive Thai membership and is widely read, especially by people travelling to Thailand.

What's the vision and value proposition for this website?

I don't get it. Is it supposed to be a message board? A guide + message board? Or online dating + message board + guide?

Is the online dating/profiles thing a good idea at all? How will it be better or different from GayRomeo?

It is online dating / profiles / message board / guide. It is a work in progress.

Thanks to all who suggested advertising options. I have been in contact with most of the ones suggested and we are waiting on a response.

Does anyone here actually use the online dating thing? Are there any paying members at all? Just curious.

If you are trying to get more Thais, then I think your best bet will be some of the Thai gay dating sites. However, many don't read/write English.

If you are trying to expand your American base, then some of the dating sites might work. I would think that OUT which has a magazine and local groups all over the US might be a place to start, and I'm sure an ad in Advocate would gain a few people.
