Anyone else having issues with Internet in Thailand?

I have 3BB and it has been on again off again for many days. I find I have to reboot my modem several times a day. Is anyone else experiencing this?

We have had similar problems. Yesterday my bf bought a small fan and has directed it at the router. So far we have not had to reboot. Not sure if this is coincidence or what.

I don't have that problem now, but have in the past. Last month I had the techy guy come to my condo and he spent 4 hours trying various things to get a reliable connection. It was finally discovered that a wire on the roof of the building had come lose. Since it was reconnected I have not had this problem.

Everybody I know who has 3BB has had similar complaints. I stuck with Maxnet. I'm glad I did. I very rarely have any problems. Once in awhile I do, but not often. If I ever switch to 3BB it will be after I no longer hear complaints.

I have Sophon Cable internet and have had no problems at all. With the fiber optic cable it seems to run smooth and at stable speeds.. Of course, I am keeping my fingers crossed.

What speed are you getting with the Sophon Cable?

I am not having internet problems, but got caught in a loop when trying to sign in to the board.

I received messages saying I was logged in but then received an ERROR page when I tried to post. Then signed in again and a page said I was signed in but then a page appeared saying my username or password was incorrect.

I have internet with CAT and it has been good.

What is the deal with Sompon Cable internet? New?

I dont know how new they are but I do know that the fiber optics is new. The sales

rep is Thanakit Sungwong and his mobile is 087-142-0997.

I called them on a friday right before noon and he called back within an hour. He came by the room and by 5PM that after noon I had internet hooked up and running.

Is the speed you are getting from the USA or Thailand? Did they say if it might slow down when they have more customers hooked up? It sounds good. What is the price the charge for 4 mb?

Thanks TOQ

The speed I stated was on out of Thailand servers, USA, England, etc

They made no mention of possible slow downs so I will just have to wait and see.

They monthly rate for 4mb is 690B. At the onset there is a 2000B install fee and 2500B modem fee. One time charge. If you pay a year in advance they give you the modem free.

I have the 10 Mbps service from Sophon. Speedtests to San Francisco sometimes (like now, at 4am) score in excess of 10 Mbps. I think that's astounding.

Most of the time, though, overseas sites download at something like 2 Mbps. And of course there are crappy times when links within Asia go down.

Sophon uses CAT for the route to Bangkok and for all international traffic. That means you are sharing the bandwidth with everyone else in Thailand, regardless of their local provider, except for True. They have their own international links.

Fact is, since you can only get international speeds above 4 Mbps at inconvenient hours, it's a dubious luxury to purchase internet access at speeds above 4 Mbps.

In terms of reliability and customer service, I would rank TOT at the top, Sophon in the middle, and (from what I hear) BB3 towards the bottom. However, these providers are not everywhere. Most locations in Pattaya and Jomtien are served by only one or two of them. Note that Jomtien Beach is too far from Central Pattaya for ADSL service greater than 2 Mbps.

Mahjong guy is absolutely correct - we arrange internet access for many clients both personal and business, and to get reliable international speeds of over 2Mbps or so you need to make special (read expensive) arrangements. Usual speeds from Europe can be as low as 200kps at peak times.... remember the highest speed you can get is no faster than the slowest part of the route you are using ...
