Looking for a Fujitsu Scanner in Thailand

Recommended Posts

I went to Tuk Com today to find a nice scanner. Naturally, they don't have any. The ones they have are over 3 times the price in the USA. I almost bought one in USA and brought it over on the plane but they were all 110 and not 110-240 V.

I am really looking to find a good scanner in Thailand. I don't mind driving to Bangkok to find it. The one I really like is the Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500. Anyone seen this in any mall or store? Thanks.

Don't have a clue, GT, but it continually amazes me how almost all electronics are substantially cheaper in the US than in Thailand (given most of the stuff is made in Southeast Asia in the first place). For example only, a 2GB SD card was $20.00 and $22.00 respectively in Big C and Pantip Plaza - whereas you can get one for just under $10.00 here in the US. Identical digital cameras are 20-40% cheaper in the US too.

Yes, it always amazes me as well. I had ordered a computer a few years back and it was made in Thailand. They were required to ship out of Thailand and then back in for me to buy it.

I always buy my electronics in the USA. Always cheaper. I also travel a great deal to Brazil and the cost there is more than in LOS. When I enter Brazil, I am always questioned about the number of computers, cameras, etc. that I have. They don't want them being brought into the country. I always have receipts and documentation showing they are mine and have been used and not for sale.

Thanks. But they only ship to USA. The problem with most sites is that they carry the 110 v. That is not a good move for here. I really want one with the wattage for Thailand.

Have a friend ship it to you from the USA. Just buy a step down transformer for around $10.00 to convert 220 to 110. They are for sale in most electronic stores and travel stores.

I did that with a device a few years ago but perhaps the transformer malfunctioned but it fried my device. I almost packed one of these in my suitcases this trip but was leery of it. I am really hoping to find a place here with one.

Have you tried the Office Depot at the HomeWorks shopping center, on Sukhumvit next to the Big-C on Pattaya Tai? If they don't have it they can probably order it for you.

There is a big chain of electronic stores in Thailand that have dozens of them. Can't think of the name at the moment. Try travel shops and hardware stores if all else fails. However, they should be cheaper at an electronic store. Make sure the transformer has enough wattage for you device. However, only heaters (hair dryers), microwaves, etc require a high wattage. This device should be fine with 10 watts. You can also buy a fusible link for the plug between the scanner and the transformer for a dollar or so extra. This way if the transformer fails it will not take out your device.

The only 2 scanners I have owned both have external transformers as standard, with something like a ~9v DC output (or similar).

Buy one of those in the US & all you need to do is pick up a new transformer from e-bay.

Can't find that model listed by any of my suppliers - suspect it's not available in Thailand?

I wonder if hotel business centres have good scanners that can do it.

Well, I broke down and bought this little thing. On a scale of 1-10, it is a 10.

This Fujitsu scanner is simply amazing. I have been looking for a fast scanner that would scan multiple pages into PDF forum. I also wanted the scanner to do it from 2 sides of the paper. I found this scanner and read the reviews. I ordered it. It is the fastest scanner I have ever used. I am able to scan entire packets of paper in seconds. It is a speed demon. It scans 20 pages per minute at high resolution. However, I scanned over 400 pages of different documents in less than an hour. I was simply amazed.

I also bought a carrying case for this and it has an AC adapter so I'll be able to use it anywhere I travel. It was 110-240 so I'll be able to use it in Brazil, Thailand and Amsterdam as well as the USA.

If you are looking for a scanner that scans with speed, high resolution and doesn't get jammed easily, this is the one you need.

How does it handle double sided documents? Mechanically or by sorting merging the pages in after you scan in one side, then turning the paper around to do the other?

It has a single one time slide. It has scanners on both the top and bottom of where it slides the paper through. I have not played with the software a great deal but it seems to scan both sides by default. I had a manual that I needed scanned and it was on both sides. I slipped the first 30 pages in and as the pages went down, I added more on the top. The entire book (over 200 pages) was scanned in less than 3 minutes and both sides were scanned and placed into the PDF file just like the manual.

I wonder how much of GT's money is spent on helping the charities he promotes as opposed to the gadgets he seems to be obsessed with?

I don't promote any charities. I support a few from time to time. I also support a few makers of gadgets. The rest is none of your business. :)

Jbee... a Newbie...your first posting on GT...

I once had a dear client of 78 years old...

she was in a nursing home and her son was eager to learn how many $$$

Mom had...he was most concerned that she was spending his inheritance on a nursing home.

One day he called me and said Mom wanted to see me..with him, of course. I went over to her nursing home room...he looked at Mom...and said Mom wanted him to know all about her finances...

I looked at her and told her ...as she was my client, and if she wanted me to tell her son all about her finances, just say OK and I will do it.

She looked over at him...and said..

Son, it is none of your damn business!

That's my Olive...such an independent lady...and she told him!

And as for GT's money and how he spends it...

I would suggest GT say the same thing to you...

"It's none of your damn business"

and by the way..Welcome to GT..

tj

ps..When she died several years later, she left an Estate of over $600,000 US. However, she left 25% in cash to her Grandchildren (her son's children) and the rest placed in Trust and he to get ONLY the interest..NO principal cash disbursement to him.

At his death, the Grandchildren were to get 25% of the Trust in cash...

and the balance to be used to assist Seniors in Need ..to provide medications to those seniors who could not afford them..administered by a local Community Foundation. (She liked my ideas of a Trust and Community Foundation bequest).

He was "pissed" to say the least..even said to me, that he should have been kinder to me when I was caring for his Mom's care and estate.

I told him..NO problem...Mom did exactly what she wanted to do... :p
