TotallyOz Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 When the BF woke up the AM, we went outside on the balcony to play chess (or normal morning routine). It was interesting that even during the rain there were tons of people out parasailing. We counted over 20 at one time going around the bay. Has anyone ever done this in Pattaya? What is the cost? Bob Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Don't have a clue, never did it. I've also never seen it off the beaches in Hua Hin. In Hua Hin, there are a lot of kite boarders, though, and it's fascinating to watch them do their tricks and jump, at times, 30-40 feet into the air. This past February or so, they had the "World Cup" of kite boarding there and there were hundreds of them. And, yes, about 95% of them are guys and in fantastic shape. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 I did it in Acapulco many years ago. It was very exhilarating to say the least. 2 days after I did it there was a girl up there and a sudden wind came up and slammed her into a hotel. She died, of course. Glad I did it before I knew about that. Quote
firecat69 Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 I have done it in Mexico. Not very interesting to me. Actually Boring. If you do it make sure you go in the morning when the water is calm.. Because every time the boat bounces that is transmitted to you up in the air and not all that pleasant. Nothing like the calm of a parachute !!!!! Quote
Guest Jason105 Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 I have been parasailing in both Acapulco and in Pattaya. My experience was exhilarating, exciting and lots of fun! In Pattaya, the guys doing the strapping in, etc. are very good at what they do and you are harnessed in and ready to go in a very short while. They were very conscientious about the safety of the experience and double-checked the straps, buckles, etc. The feeling of weightlessness combined with the incredible view of the harbor was well worth the cost (forgive me, but I can't remember how much I paid). I don't think I would enjoy parasailing in the rain. The parachute does not actually function as a big umbrella. If you're curious, give it a try, I think you'll have an experience to remember. all the best. Quote
Guest badcdn Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 About a year ago I tried out an outfit on Pattaya beach. Naive, I assumed there was just one business, but once we got out there I noticed there were several platforms and many other businesses offering the same thing. If memory serves me right, it was about 3000 baht and IMHO, it's a bit of a rip off because I was up there for no more than five minutes. Other companies might give longer rides. We, a Farang I met and myself, arrived at the beach around 10AM. We paid the lady and were guided to a speed boat waiting on the beach. We were then ferried out to one of the barge/platforms that sort of reminded me of an aircraft carrier. There we were told to remove our shoes and harnessed up. I'm a tall guy and the harness was so tight I was walking hunched over. I did get aroused as the young man was tugging at the straps, felt sort of kinky being man handled but this cute Thai guy. This particular outfit wouldn't let me take my camera up and insisted that I leave on the platform. Note to self to hide it out of sight until I'm airborne. Note to others: for Murphy's sake, place the strap around your wrist so you don't drop the camera. Then, barefoot, with the Thai sun beating down on us, we walked across a soft but scorching rubber surface to the take-off point. Once out there we were standing on something that was a lot cooler. The ride itself was bumpy. Every time the boat his a wave, it would lurch and the force would translate up the tow rope and tug the harness. It it was a big wave, it was a violent tug; not so tranquil and relaxing. The boat went out a bit, made a almost a complete circle, then dropped us off back on the barge. We were in separate harnesses and took our rides separately. I'd only want to be strapped in with a guy if he was hot. I notice para sailing on the Jomtien side and it looks like the companies give longer rides over there. All in all, it's something I would do again, with a camera. Quote
Guest Geezer Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 While walking along Beach Road one morning several years ago, I struck up a conversation with this group of Thai navy boys. As they had a lot of time and very little money I asked if they would like a speed boat ride. The answer was an enthusiastic, “Yes!” As we were speeding across the waves the driver asked if they would like to parasail. I really wasn’t thinking of spending that much money, but Quote

Guest Geezer Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 And that reminds me. I can be munificent when boys in uniform are involved. Several years ago when returning to BKK on the Death Railroad [River Kwai (Kwae)] the train stopped in the boondocks and picked up two cars of sweaty soldiers who had been on maneuvers for three days. I wanted to walk back and visit with them, but didn Quote
Bob Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Geezer... You are one amazing fella... Ditto. Loved the train story, Geezer. I wish I had the balls to do stuff like that. Quote
Guest Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Indeed...Geezer... You are living proof of my philosophy of... "Getting Out and Smell the Roses...While You Can" It is pretty awesome that you do things like this. I am sure that is what keeps you young at heart and going strong. Keep it up! Quote
