kokopelli Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 I have a photo I wish to have painted into a larger size portrait. Does anyone have any recommendations as to artists in the Pattaya area? Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 I have a photo I wish to have painted into a larger size portrait. Does anyone have any recommendations as to artists in the Pattaya area? Yes, check out website: Wichan's Site Quote
Guest GaySacGuy Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 I had several done and they turned out great. The shop is just a couple of doors past Howard's Guest house when you are walking away from Sunee Plaza on the corner of a small soi. The gentleman that did them was fairly fast, great quality, nice frames, and work with you on what you wanted from the photo. I can reccommend the shop! Quote
kokopelli Posted August 8, 2010 Author Posted August 8, 2010 Update. I did check out the recommendations given on this forum. Wichan's website was impressive. Also checked out other personal recommendations plus studios I found just roaming around. Finally decided on a shop on 2nd Rd near Royal Garden primarily because I often walk by it and stopped in to chat with the owner. The final product was good but not quite as naturalistic as I had hoped. So maybe I should have gone with other's recommendations. For those of you who may be interested in a painted portrait here is some info. All shops seem to have a standard price list based on standard sizes and depending on the number of persons in the photo to be painted. For example: 40 cm x 50 cm/ 1 person = 2500 Baht. For 2 persons = 3500 Baht. Pricing seems to be about the same in all shops although it does vary. Also quality of the final product depends on the quality of the photo. So the best would be a photo taken in a studio where the lighting is controlled rather than by flash or an outdoor snapshot. If desired, a good artist can take a few years off your age; inexpensive cosmetic surgery! Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Those prices are cheap, mainly because the detail is not there. Take a look at Wichan's site at the old woman and the old monk. You will see very detailed painting. Quote

Guest Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 I have seen Wichan's work. It is amazing. He is very talented. He is not the average street painter. He is a pro. His rates may be higher but they are worth it. I have bought and purchased art in Thailand for many years. I would hire Wichan in a heartbeat over any other painter in Pattaya. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Thanks for the words of support. I may be prejudiced, but I agree with you. Quote
KhorTose Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Thanks for the words of support. I may be prejudiced, but I agree with you. I like what I see on the web site. How long does it take for him to paint a portrait? Do you know if you need an appointment? I ask because usually I am only in Pattaya for one or two days. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 You can send a photo of the portrait you want and he can have it ready when you come to Pattaya. Quote
