lexusgs Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Hi GT/GB A long while back I'm sure there was a thread discussing the thought of a night out in Pattaya or BKK for members....did anything come of it? Quote
Gaybutton Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Not yet. GT is not currently present in Thailand. It might be something we will consider doing once he returns. Quote
lexusgs Posted July 24, 2010 Author Posted July 24, 2010 Thanks for your prompt reply! I look forward to his return then as and when it happens. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 My understanding is that GT is here in LOS. GT show yourself. Quote

PattayaMale Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 In the past, we have had some very generous guys that sponsored "Meet and Greets". Some problems seemed to come up each time. A few decided that since it was someone else who was paying it was ok to load up on drinks and then criticize the host. When someone tried to use tickets to keep it reasonable, people complained. Etc. I met some really nice people at some of the "Meet and Greets". It would be nice if somehow one could be put together for members on the forum. How many people is that really? Before it was like an open house for all expats. If someone wants to do that fine, but I am wondering if it would be realistic to have something for active members that are able to attend? If funds were available would drinks have to be free? How about discounted instead? Say 50%, would this help keep abuse down? Maybe let it be open to those that posted a picture in one of the contests or posted at least one post in the last month. Not sure if any funds would even be available. Quote
lexusgs Posted July 24, 2010 Author Posted July 24, 2010 Hi Pattaya Male I wasn't thinking of a freebie...I enjoy reading the many varied posts and opinions here on GT. I for one would really enjoy putting a face to the names from the forum if a few guys are in Pattaya? A few drinks around several bars(they could do with the help?!) would suffice. Say put 1500-2000 baht each into a pot and off we go! Quote

Where exactly would the funds come from for discounted drinks? I don't see much wrong with people paying for their own drinks, rather than becoming comatose at someone else's expense. Discounting drinks would only encourage scroungers. On the other hand, if anyone can chip in to get me a first class air ticket & a good hotel suite, I'll be sure to attend. Quote
Guest RichLB Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Aren't you guys making this far too complicated? Just pick a time and place, post it on the board, and see if anyone shows up. Doesn't sound that tough to do. Quote
Gaybutton Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 If people would like to have a meet-and-greet, what's wrong with everyone ordering his own drinks and paying his own bill, without looking for discounts? Quote

Gaybutton Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 Good idea! Can pay my juice and sodawater alone. That's right. I don't see any need to have something formal or organized to the point that we're getting discounts or someone else is footing the bill. If people want to have a meet-and-greet, it's very simple. Just say when, where, and what time and whoever wants to show up can show up and everyone orders his own drinks and pays his own bill. If you think about it, where is it engraved in stone that it even has to be in a bar at all? Years ago I used to organize these kinds of things on occasion and we would just meet and sit down at the tables on the terrace of The Ambiance, and it would be about 3:00pm in the afternoon, not at night. That gave people time to have their day at the beach, show up for the meet-and-greet, and still have plenty of time to get themselves ready for dinner and an evening out. If I remember correctly, that's how RichLB and I first met and we've been friends ever since. It could be lunch somewhere. I'll bet if we asked nicely, Tui, of Tui's Place, would have no objection if a group of us wanted to gather together for lunch on his terrace at the beach. If it's to be a bar, I would suggest Corner Bar or Memories in Sunee Plaza or Question Mark or Ganymede at Jomtien Complex. All three of those are quiet enough that a meet-and-greet would work. In other words, it can be at all kinds of places besides just bars and it could also work just as well in a number of different bars at various locations. Quote

No loud music, so people can actually converse. Fewer distractions. Then there's always the possibility of moving on to the bars afterwards for those who actually get on. Quote

Rather than organize why not just call into La Cage any night, it is happy hour from 6-9 and the farang are friendly to new faces. I have also been made welcome by myself at Bondi on the beach, which is an excellent venue after a day on the beach or for an after or even pre dinner drink. I have not seen many people discuss the beach restaurants which are on hot nights extremely pleasant. Quote
Guest Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 I think a Meet and Greet is a good idea. The Mod's and I will discuss it and will come back and date and time and details for those interested. Quote
Guest badcdn Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Drinks are generally cheap around Pattaya; paying for one's own drinks should not be an issue. I would love to meet the friendly farang around town, but I need a few drinks in me before I get talking(three beer tonight). What about a poll to determine what month, week or day would attract the most members? Quote
Gaybutton Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 What about a poll to determine what month, week or day would attract the most members? I don't think a poll is necessary. Why make it complicated? If someone wants to have a meet-and-greet, just say where, what day, and what time. Those who go will go. Quote
PattayaMale Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 True enough. Each can pay their own and it can be anywhere. My mindset was as Rainwalker and George did in the past. More of a hosted party, but certainly not necessary. I was thinking also of the picture contest GayThailand suggested with the 2 prizes which of course could just be part of a pay your own drink meet and greet. I see that GayThailand wrote that the moderators would discuss it. Quote
Guest RichLB Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 I'm with GB on this one. Why make it such a formal thing? Pick a day, time, and location - and maybe ask in the forum who will be planning to go. I think a lot of us would make the effort to be there. Quote
KhorTose Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 I also agree with GB. Just give us a date and a time and let everyone pay their own way. I'm available this Wednesday and Thursday . Quote
lexusgs Posted July 26, 2010 Author Posted July 26, 2010 I'm available same time once you guys decide. Keep it simple Would be great to meet up Quote
