Guest Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 The bar was closed again tonight. My understanding is that it will be closed until at least Wednesday as that is when the courts will open up. All the boys were NOT released. Many are still in jail and waiting for release or bail or something. Many stories about this are going around the area. It is best to wait and see what happens in the long run. Quote
Gaybutton Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Many stories about this are going around the area. It is best to wait and see what happens in the long run. You mean the gossip queen rumor mill is in full force? My goodness, what a surprise! But it is a rare foreigner who will really know what goes on - and, as importantly, why. As a matter of fact, I believe it is so rare that it is non-existent. I think any foreigner, no matter how long he has lived in Thailand, even if he was born and raised here, who claims to really fully understand the goings on is either a liar or a fool. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 There are various ways of spelling it in English, of course, but it's squid. Ah!!! The B instead of P is what confused both my bf and me. Plaa Muuk with a very short U sound. Literally means ink fish. Quote
Bob Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Ah!!! The B instead of P is what confused both my bf and me. Plaa Muuk with a very short U sound. Literally means ink fish. Thai has a few weird (to us falang, anyway) consonants and a sound spelled in English "bp" is one of them. Fish, spelled in Thai, is "ปลา" and would normally be spelled in English "bplaa". As you noted, the "muuk" means ink. Quote
Guest RichLB Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 And I also am a bit surprised at RichLBs posting, it is clear that as GB states the fee for the upstairs room includes the boy tip. No.2, you ought not to have been surprised. The point of my posting was the shoddy reporting. The article stated that the room rented for 1300 baht and made no mention of a boy being in the room or even if one had been hired to go there. The article also did not say if the underagers were employees of the bar or merely present (although I assume they were employees). I was also surprised to read about drug paraphernalia being found, but no drugs. What constitutes "drug paraphernalia" - lighters, rolling papers, spoons? I'll again emphasize that relying on such "news reports" for information as to what happened at Nice Boys is chancy, at best. Quote
firecat69 Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 The article stated that the room rented for 1300 baht and made no mention of a boy being in the room or even if one had been hired to go there. You better read the article again. The reporter was very specific that the undercover agent paid a 1300 baht FEE and was taken WITH the BOY to an upstairs room. How much more specific can he be????? It was also very specific that the underage boys were employed by the Bar. http://www.pattayadailynews.com/en/2010/07/24/underage-boy-bar-raided-in-organised-sting-operation/ Quote
Gaybutton Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 The reporter was very specific that the undercover agent paid a 1300 baht FEE I'm starting to wonder just what that 1300 baht fee was supposed to cover or even if that was the actual fee the 'agent' was charged. The Pattaya Daily News article mentions the 1300 baht. The Pattaya One article does not. Maybe the reporter didn't get it right. But assuming it is accurate, the way the article is worded it could be that 1300 baht was charged because apparently the agent specifically asked for an under-age boy. Maybe the younger they are, the more they charge. I hope there will be follow up articles for a change. I'm curious about whether the 1300 baht fee was supposed to cover renting the room and a tip for the boy, whether asking specifically for an under-age boy meant the bar charged more, or whether the mama-san lined his own pocket with it, or what. I'm also curious about just how old the under-age boy actually was. Quote
Guest joseph44 Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Haven't been in Sunee for months now.........didn't miss a thing! What concerns me most in this thread, is that most posters are more concerned about the fee of THB 1300 that was paid obviously by someone who might have been caught up in a pedophile case in the recent past and 'buying' his way out of jail, than the fact that there are still bars offering underaged sex workers. What happened to the idea regarding a "bar-quality-system"? It came up about a year ago. Quote

It came up about a year ago. I think everyone is well aware of the concern we have expressed for years about the bars that employ under-age boys. I don't see anything wrong with also discussing other aspects of the goings-on. Now, as for a "bar-quality-system," I don't recall any discussions about that and I don't even know what you mean by it. If you explain it, we can discuss it. Quote
Guest No2 Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 RichLB, my surprise is that you even questioned a short-time room only for Bt1300 and simply put it down to 'shoddy reporting' when it seems fairly clear that a FEE was charged, ok it did not actually state what the fee was made up of, but is that really necessary in this case? The article states an agent was able to hire the services of a boy with an upstairs room for a fee of Bt1300. i assumed (perhaps wrongly) that the 'agent' would have needed to make sure payment was accepted for the boys tip prior to any 'act' having to take place. As is normal the tip is usually paid after the deed...i cant think the 'agent' would have been expected to conduct a sex session and/or wait the time so the raid could actually take place. Upfront payment of the boys 'services' tip and acceptance by the mamasan or whoever would be enough, i assume, for the raid to take place immediatly the money is paid and the boy is taken to the room. Maybe the EXACT details of every reported article are never probably 100% accurate but I think the general understanding of what occured in this bar is crystal clear. Quote

As mentioned before on this Board, in my experience bars never charge and get paid any fee in advance apart from the 'off' fee. If the 'tip' is charged as a pre-paid fee, then the act becomes prostitution which is illegal. Quote
Gaybutton Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 If the 'tip' is charged as a pre-paid fee, then the act becomes prostitution which is illegal. That would be something new - certain bars concerning themselves with what is and what is not legal . . . Quote
Guest frequentflier57 Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 I agree totally. It only takes one person to walk around Sunnee short listing the offending bars. Then send the police around to raid these places. Any that are confirmed as offending should be shut down & the licensee jailed. For that you would require efficient law enforcement though. Totally agree..The people that run these places should be jailed....mind you there are a lot of people there who would not agree with you. Hard to believe it. Quote
Guest joseph44 Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Maybe they should start fining the owner of Sunnee. Mrs. China! Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 I don't agree that the owner of Sunee should be held responsible for what the tenants do. Quote
Bob Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 I don't agree that the owner of Sunee should be held responsible for what the tenants do. I can agree that the owner/lessor of a building shouldn't be criminally liable for what his tenants independently do; however, any half-brained owner has a lease clause that gives him the right to terminate the lease should the tenant be engaged in an illegal activity. And, while such a clause shouldn't be strictly applied, it would seem that a bar owner harboring/pimping underaged kids ought to be sufficient cause to enforce it. Quote
Guest Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 The owner of the BUSINESS should be responsible for what the business does. e.g. You rent a shop to Tesco & there's a problem with the goods Tesco sell. Tesco as a company are responsible. Not the owner of the building. Tesco would be the one fined. Same applies in Sunee. Someone owns the building & rents it out to someone who owns the "Shag My Boy" bar business. The owner of the building has no liability, but the owner of the "Shay My Boy" bar IS responsible for the conduct of that business. Quote

In some legal systems the owner of the premises in question could be deemed guilty of being an accessory to the crime, or of aiding and abetting, or of failing to report a crime being committed. There can be no doubt in anyone's mind that the owner of the building {or at least her agents) had full and prior knowledge of the type of business to be conducted But there again, in Thailand that sort of legislation could also encompass the corrpt officials who issue licenses to conduct the business Quote
Guest Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Several questions were asked about if customers were tested on this raid. PattayaMail says yes. See below: Thirteen underage boys were among those arrested during a raid on a Sunee Plaza gay bar by Chonburi Immigration Police. The July 24 crackdown at the Nice Boys a-Go-Go came after an undercover officer attempted to purchase the sexual services of a 13-year-old. Investigators discovered that the club employed 13 boys between ages 13 and 15 and operated an illegal room where sexual acts were performed. The teens were sent to the Child and Women Quote
Gaybutton Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Officers also tested 50 employees and 40 foreign customers for illegal drug use. 12 employees tested positive for drugs. That's about 25% of the entire staff. Way to go! 40 foreign customers? 40? In one bar? Are there even that many customers in all of Sunee Plaza these days? Quote
Guest Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 40 foreign customers? 40? In one bar? Are there even that many customers in all of Sunee Plaza these days? I briefly visited this bar last year, leaving fairly quickly and alone. I visited several bars, but left the "bad" ones within 30 seconds or so. 1 Despite being peak season, there were about 3 customers. 40 seems highly improbable. 2 There were several Sunnee bars which seemed to have a much worse age profile than this establishment, at the time I was there. I would like to see those bars closed & the management prosecuted. Quote

I poked my head in 30-45 minutes before this happened. It was packed when I left. 40? I doubt it but possible. 20-30 highly possible. More than 15, defiantly. Quote
Guest frequentflier57 Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 There's an interesting post about police, raids and tea money in Pattaya Daily News Forum: -All the comments made about exposing farang pedos, cancelling their passports etc if they were found in the go go bar that employed underage teenage boys is interesting. Interesting because the disgust seems to be only directed at management and the customers. There is a third party involved - always in such matters. In fact the guys who make these comments have no idea how the system operates here. The idea that the establishment was raided because of a tip-off is simply ridiculuous. Let's face facts. The cops in Pattaya have their finger on everything. If they want to they can find a murderer or rapist within days. The trouble is - there is no profit from pursuing ordinary criminals. The gay bar was raided because the cops were upset with the owner (no other reason), probably because he refused to pay extra tea money. Last night I hosted a bbq for my wife's friend who is a secretary at a provincial cop shop. She wanted to show off her new boyfriend who is a Police Senior Sergeant Major in Bangkok. My wife is good friends with a number of cops and their families in Bangkok including a General and a Police Lieutenant Colonel. I have met these gentlemen and they live in modest homes and appear to be honest hard working individuals (at least on the surface). However the new boyfriend is in another category altogether. He is a member of the elite group that snoops on people's phone and email in the interest of "law and order and public decency". (Thailand is one of the most censored countries in the world). He targets "sex-parties", drug dealers, insults against the Royal Family, gambling, porn etc. He claimed to be one of the 10 most powerful cops in Thailand despite his rank. Bragging I thought but after weighing up the facts - no. He arrived in a new luxury vehicle (according to the girlfriend he has three). After plying him with Heinies and blaa-muuk he supplied me with his website, personal email and telephone number. Checking the Internet this morning there he was in all his glory and correctly attired in his police uniform. The website is his moonlighting lurk. He and his colleagues have a private detective agency (a clear case of conflict of interest that would not be tolerated in a farang police force). He said that most of the Pattaya business owners know him by name (you can only guess why). Why the discussion on the Sunee Plaza raid makes me laugh is because this guy also bragged about taking me to a place in central Pattaya, on his next visit, that is run by a Korean (name supplied) who is his personal friend (I wonder why). This is a closed establishment and farang are not normally admitted. He said that as a reward for my hospitality he will take me there and the owner will provide free beer and girls. The girls are Taiwanese and are between 14 and 15 years old. (Apart from the personal moral issues I would not be stupid enough to put myself in such a compromising situation). In addition he said that he will "fix" any problem I have in Thailand for 100,000 baht. Apparently this is only for one-off jobs and the price goes up from there. The purpose of this post is not to make judgement on this guy or his business. This is Thailand and that is how it works here. It is simply to point out that the distinction between good and bad, pedo or non-pedo, good cop and bad cop etc. in this country is so blurred we cannot make the same judgements about what people do here using the same criteria we use in the West. This is a different country and has a unique culture, certain aspects of which would offend the majority of people in farang countries. No-one is going to change it overnight and many would argue not to change it at all. In short if you do not agree with the way the Thais take care of business stay at home. However if you do visit this country you need to be very cautious and above all broad-minded. Adopt a low profile. If you want to do business here you should expect to pay tea money. If you buy property you should expect that someone is trying to rip you off. When you read about establishments being raided because they employ under-age boys always look at the bigger picture.- pattayadailynews.com • View topic - The Raid On The Gay Go Go Bar worth a read, hope is allowed to link. Bigger picture?...These are children.Anybody who exploits young boys or girls should be named and shamed...and taken out and shot.Leave the children alone...no excuses. Quote
