TotallyOz Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 For those point whores like me, I take advantage of every opportunity I can to accumulate more points. If you are traveling to Gay Thailand or have a future trip planned or just want to get some extra points, use the below to get 5,000 points on your next stay at any Intercontinental Hotel (Holiday Inn, Crown Plaza, etc.). I did this and it worked for me. Priority Club members: go to http ://www.priorityclub dot com/register (NOTE: I intentionally didn't put a hot link here so that the link can't be traced, obviously just remove the spaces and replace the dot above with a .) Enter code 2162, this should get you 5K bonus points on your next stay (stay must be completed within 90 day of registering) Quote

Guest Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 I know this is a dumb question, but why would it matter if the link can be traced? Then they shut off the promotion and others won't be able to use it. What happens with these kind of promo codes is that lots of websites are out there that have thousands of members that take advantage of bargains. I found this one on slick deals. Sometimes the companies don't realize what they do until it is too late but they have to honor as long as valid. An example would be a recent 73 inch plaza TV that was advertised that the code let users buy for less than 500 USD. They sold out in less than an hour and the site keep taking back orders. Slickdeals and Fatwallet are the 2 places I love to find great deals. If anyone knows of others, please let me know. Quote

firecat69 Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Good idea Jim Too bad you will never find a RT ticket on Delta for 60,000 miles. Not easy to find it for 120,000 miles but next to impossible for 60,000. The airline mileage given is a joke. They give away all these miles and then effectively double the miles needed for a ticket. Delta is among the worst, almost no seats ever offered at the low mileage. Quote

Delta is among the worst, almost no seats ever offered at the low mileage. FYI... While I'll agree that is is more difficult to find the 60,000 miles award ticket to USA from BKK...there seems to be more availability now for flights even during the coming Thanksgiving holiday seasons. My bf is flying with me for Thanksgiving in San Diego... he is currently holding a reserved round trip ticket from BKK-San Diego on Nov 23rd...with return from San Francisco on Dec 9th. on Delta Airlines ...total miles used 60,000. If one has status with Delta...more low mileage seats are available. So it is helpful to choose a favorite airline and airline alliance... stick with it to gather benefits. Also, be sure to call Delta and ask about award tickets availability of Korean Airlines...there seems to be good award ticket at lower mileage ..good to be flexible on dates...and ask about othe partner airlines.. like China Southern. Let me know if I can help you find a ticket using Delta miles. tj Quote
firecat69 Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Let me know if I can help you find a ticket using Delta miles. Did you use their website or call? I have looked for tickets nine months out with nothing available for months. By the way I am Gold and was Platinum or Gold for many years with NW. Have not looked in last month because I got sick of nothing being available. I have plenty of miles and would like business class some time. Absolutely nothing available in any month for 9 straight months at the 120,000 level. I have no intention of using 240,000 or 360,000 miles. So is it because I am trying to use their website or that in the last month they have started to add seats??? BTW I would rather walk then take China Southern. Quote

I use their website....and read experiences of others on flyertalk.com (the Miles & Points/ Delta forum)... The website is broken ...when you enter it..and request award ticket... look for the calendar of availability at top of page... click the departure and return months "back and forward" .. increased availability may appear...crazy but true! Click back and forth the coach and business selections...again, added availability may occur... It is a frustrating exercise...but have found increased availability by doing this on Delta for award seats. Delta knows the award engine is broke and needs fixing...they are making corrections..but will take months do fix...so they say. Be flexible on departure cities...and more business seats may be available. Using this today...there is a lot of coach seats from JFK to BKK in many months..early 2011 included..at 60,000 miles roundtrip. Found business class from JFK to NRT...and back....sometimes best to check out availability from US to Tokyo...then search for dates available from NRT to BKK....see the available dates and call Delta to seek booking. A layover of one night might be needed in NRT...but this flexibility might allow you to boon business total for 120,000. So many new routes ...newly introduced by DL from US to Beijing and Shanghai may open new seats to fill...with connections to BKK as well. Must be flexible and creative...as to routing... to find the low award seats... and added seats are made available close to departure dates as empty seats are released for award ticketing. Singapore is also a good option ...JetStarAsia cheap tix to BKK... as is Taipei... KLM runs daily from TPE-BKK-TPE...many open seats...coach & business. pm or e-mail me with your dates to travel...from where to where... and I'll look more. Having Gold Status does help...but Platinum/Diamond better availability. Many ways to get to Platinum...and added benefits too...including System Wide Upgrade certs...good to upgrade to business class from "M" fare from USA. And...May I suggest change your address to your Thailand address... as Delta Gold Member in Asia.you get worldwide access to Delta World clubs when you travel...regardless of class of seat booked... all domestic and international Delta World Clubs. tj Quote
firecat69 Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 I went and played with the website exactly the same as I did 2 months ago. Either they have improved it or just added seats because I am finding the lowest available in a lot of months I look. Does not appear to ever be Business available on NRT to BKK. Don't understand why they don't offer you business jfk to nrt and economy nrt to bkk at a reduced level. This is what NW always did and it allowed you to get your trip with the longest leg in Business. There are definitely Business seats available JFK to NRT. Impossible to use award ticket only to Narita because buying a RT ticket to BKK from NRT will cost almost as much as a ticket from JFK to NRT. Also why is it not possible to find upgradeable tickets with miles on this website when clearly there are seats available at times? Quote
Guest travelerjim Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 tried to add this to my message above... but board would not allow edit of message.. so I will add this: I use their website....and read experiences of others on flyertalk.com..and then call Delta to ask their help. Ask them for help in booking as you have asked about ... Business to NRT and coach from NRT to BKK ... always can call and ask for upgrade without added miles later if availability comes about... Don't forget the TPE option...KLM flies to BKK .. evening flight..daily...near empty. Coach cost rt is about $250.. ....Business "Z" class is about $400.00 roundtrip...on KLM..BKK-TPE route...earns miles on DL. Availability of award seats is a yield management decision... several available each flight..as much as year in advance... then the yield management wizards take over...and as flight dates come closer...may add additional award seat availability. firecat69 Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 One Last Question Is it possible to use the website to find fares that are upgradeable with miles. I do not see it. If I request coach fares it just keeps saying not upgradeable. Again it was very easy on NW website/? Quote
Guest travelerjim Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 One Last Question Is it possible to use the website to find fares that are upgradeable with miles. I do not see it. If I request coach fares it just keeps saying not upgradeable. Not easy...but is doable... do your research before calling DL... 1st...the fare class must be available.."M" or higher.. then nne to know if upgrade class available... (call Delta and ask).. and/or see Travel & Transport class availability tool... see if both "M" class and "Z" class available for your flight dates..then call DL and ask to book...upgrade with miles upgrade. http://publicbackup.com/shared/flyertalk/availability/ To use miles to upgrade on Delta... must be a "M" fare class or higher... in the $2000 + range of fares... sometimes a special M fare to Asia..but not recently seen. IF upgrade available...25,000 miles each way.... coach upgrade to business. Platinum and Diamond Medallion members receive either 4 or 6 system wide grade certificates... which can be applied to an "M" class fare or higher.. to upgrade from coach to business ..NO miles needed. That is why it is wise to earn Platinum vs Gold Medallion status. Many expect DL to change rules re: these certs next year... as competition allows the use of system wide upgrade certs on cheaper fares. Constant checking and being creative is essential, and being flexible increases your chances considerably. I have a South America trip coming up later in the year when I could have used Asia Miles points or British Airways points. Asia Miles is a lot cheaper for getting from Bangkok to S. America and back. But using BA miles for the intercontinental sectors allows you to add on 4 free internal sectors on LAN. So BA becomes 'cheaper', although I could not get back to Bangkok, only Hong Kong. But there are plenty of cheap flights between HKG and BKK. I have only one small issue which I believe I will solve with constant checking. When I booked, one of the internal flights had to be a 3 hour night flight departing at 2:00 am. Hopefully. nearer the time, I will be able to switch that to a daytime flight as unsold seats are transferred over to the mileage programme. With most of my miles bookings, I usually find I get better results by phoning rather than depending on the web information. Quote

Asia Miles is a lot cheaper for getting from Bangkok to S. America and back. May I ask what your midway airport is? What is the cost of this ticket? I have been working on a trip to Brazil from Thailand and think that Emirates is the way for me to go. But, I am open to other options. I prefer to say with the Delta alliance partners or the Thai Air partners as I have top tier with both. Any other suggestions for a South American trip? Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 May I ask what your midway airport is? What is the cost of this ticket? I can't be much help as I am using One World airlines and British Airways Miles. Booking via BA you are limited to 2 airlines. So the option is BA via London to either Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo or Rio, and then LAN Chile for internal, or BA via Sydney and then LAN to Santiago. Its difficult to compare the 'cost' of BA miles because its earn/reward scheme is a lot different even to the other One World airlines. Business class was 280,000 BA miles for 8 flights. It would have been the same 'price' if I had just used 4 for the intercontinental legs. Using Asia Miles, I then 'purchased' Santiago/Lima (business return) and Lima/Cuzco (economy return) for around 60,000. Part of the reason I have so many BA miles is they had a 'sale' late last year. For a couple of weeks they halved the conversion rate for switching Amex points to BA miles - thereby giving you double miles. The only suggestion I have is do not go through London Heathrow. The taxes and surcharges there seem to be far higher than any other airport! I am not sure of the Delta/Thai partners. If Qantas happens to be one, you can go to Sydney and then a non-stop to Buenos Aires. If not, then one-stops on almost any European airline flying to Rio would work. Quote

In planning for my trip, I read a great deal about the cost of flights. I seem to recall that if you purchase your international ticket first and then purchase tickets for flights within the continent, the fares are far higher than if you had included them as extra sectors on the international ticket. I am not sure how this might affect any cheap return deal ex-the USA. As my tickets are on miles, it does not affect me. But I did look at the cost of purchasing a ticket (round trip if necessary) to replace the one overnight flight I have to take. The cheapest I could get was around US$700! Maybe GT knows more about this. Enjoy your trip.. Thanks tj. I'm going to Buenos Aires, Iguazu Falls, Santiago, 9 days in Patagonia, Lima and Machu Picchu. I'll happily post pics and info on my return if it's of interest. Quote
firecat69 Posted July 24, 2010 Posted July 24, 2010 I looked a couple minutes ago and still available in November. Great deal for someone going to West coast USA not so good for East Coast. But if someone finds getting an 8 hour flight in Korean business is worth all the hassels then I'd say go for it. Maybe spend some time in Seoul??? Quote

Where do you find to register for these things and the requirements. I can find none of them on DL website That's because all Delta promotions are not always on the Delta website... This one started out as a "targeted e-mail" to Delta SkyMiles members living in the area of 4 cities... STL..(StLouis).BNA.(Nashville)..RDU..(Raleigh-Durham)and PIT...(Pittsburgh). Flyertalk.com is an excellent resource and exchange of information... the Delta forum board ...under Miles & Points..is a message board to share and ask questions...just like this message board is supposed to be. The promotion is..however..open to all who wish to register for it and fly from and return to same airports..STL...BNA...PIT..RDU. To register, read the long and helpful threads posted here: Various spoke cities: double MQM + up to 50,000 bonus miles per round-trip - FlyerTalk Forums You must register before..and the departure city must be the return city.. roundtrips. For example...say you normally use JFK as departure airport... IF you drove and flew out of PIT...and returned to PIT...say to Bangkok... and ended your flights NLT December 31, 2010...then you would get Double MQM's... plus 25,000 mile bonus miles...plus normal flight miles and your status bonus. You can have as many in between flights on same ticket.. but start must be in the same city as you return... I have registered for the promo for STL...PIT...RDU..and BNA.. in case I have opportunity to take flights during my year end holidays in the USA....The STL-LIM (Lima) airfare sale on Delta for less than $400.00 total cost was and is an excellent example...earning Double MQM's..+ 25,000 bonus miles for international travel...+ regular miles + elite status bonus miles. PM or e-mail me if added help is needed in registering for the Delta promo. Safe travels! tj Quote
