My prediction for game 3 of round 2:

Ghana vs USA

If game ends in regulation play, it will be USA by 2.

If it goes to overtime, it will be Ghana by 1 (of course)

Portugal 7: North Korea 0 That second half was amazing, and Ronaldo's goal a beauty. Admittedly Portugal was helped by NK's inept defending, but they certainly seemed to have no problem with the new ball.

Some of the European favourites are now in a state of self-destruct. The French team is in open rebellion and England seems not far behind. Even the French President has now become involved. Makes all it even more interesting!

Well we have a good chance to move on to round two as FIFA recently announced the referee assignments for matches 33-40 and Mr Coulibaly (The official who made the bulls... call against the US) was not included. Frank De Bleeckere, a Belgian, will referee the United States-Algeria match Wednesday, his third game of the World Cup.

I'll resist the temptation to request explanations for the acronyms used in the previous post (USA, FIFA).

Well, South Korea have the cutest team of players in the tournament. I like their style, but they had some luck in getting that last result.

Why resist? Mea culpa. FIFA stands for Fédération Internationale de Football Association, the world governing body of football (soccer). Doesn't USA stands for 'under starter's orders'?

Wouldn't that be USO?

Of course. This is obviously a bad morning! :(

Considering acronyms, USA seems acceptable. USP does not. What about USB, USD?

After some research, I find the USA is a country located between Canada and an oil slick.

They seem to be in the World Cup too. That must raise the profile of the country.

Yes, but do not forget that they are the winner of group C, doing better then that country of old pommies (I have Australian friends.)

It use to be that we in the USA said Canada was our 51st state, but with the economy and unemployment in America, we now wish we were one of Canada's States. Heck we would even accept being a territory.

:(

A gift from a British oil company.

For my next World Cup prediction: Germany over England 2-1, USA (hungry for revenge) over Ghana 3-1 assuming this game has a referee who can officiate.

USA seems to be doing well at getting the goals, the problem is keeping them. It happened again last night when a Belgian Linesman made an erroneous offside call nullifying a Dempsey goal. This is the referee who replaced the last cross-eyed official.

I'll bet they don't say pommies - more likely pommie bastards :D

Great game this evening between Slovakia and Italy with Slovakia well deserving their 3-2 win. So the 2006 reigning champions Italy and runners up France are both out - and both came bottom of their Groups.

Japan going well also. Great performance from Mr Honda too. I'd like to score with him.

Didn't notice his long balls. You must be on a different network. Send me a pix, pls,

Send me a pix, pls,

Just watch Japan play their next game. Honda will no doubt let you see them a few times :p

Interestingly, YouTube has a series of clips about those long balls. There's one of a goal he scored in Hong Kong a few years ago which is almost identical to the one against Denmark.

Uruguay has an amazing national anthem. Sounds like it was written by Rossini!

What does Zutag mean?

Does not show up in my English-German dictionary.

More importantly, South Korea have been knocked out, so that's most of the cute Asians gone.

Clearly an overhyped waste of money and national resources to prove what? That people from one country will sell their loyalty to another country for the privilege of kicking a ball around on some third country's front lawn? Anybody who wastes a second of his time following this crap...

Ooops, lost track of time. The game starts in 30 minutes and I haven't washed my "USA ALL THE WAY" beer stein, my "GO USA" World Cup T-shirt is still at the laundry and they close at 9 p.m. Christ, I hope it's dry. And if I don't get to the bar at least 10 minutes before the game, I will pay hell getting a seat.(There is one visitor from Slovenia going to be there.)

More of my opinion of the World Cup later.

Sorry, it should be two words zu tag or to day. I was using my bad German I learned from the Swabian people who lived in the area I grew up in. I was trying to have a play on the old Hilter quote of, 'Heute Deutschland, morgen die Welt!"

Zutag Amerika, bis morgan Der Englander.

I hope you made some money on that dreadful display by England, despite the disallowed goal. And to think those crap players and their manager earn vast sums of money. Rubbish!

That said, it's amazing that FIFA will not rethink it's ban in the use of video technology. Even though the referee and his assistant running the line were so blind they could not pick up a ball two feet inside the goal line, most of those in the stadium and the TV cameras certainly did. I also read today that FIFA now agrees there is a problem with their new ball. The 'new ball' concept for each World Cup is just a marketing gimmick to pull in more cash. New balls should be introduced immediately after World Cups so that players have 4 years to adapt - not 4 months (as z909 suggested earlier).

I just hope that Honda and his balls continue right through to the final to maintain my interest :p

Those "crap" players are paid by their clubs, not England. Most of them perform quite well at club level in European cup football. The manager also has done well at club level.

Thankfully I shall not have to waste another minute watching England in this tournament.

Unfortunately the next outing for Mr Honda is during working hours for us.
