Guest lvdkeyes Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Last night four of us ( 2 Thai and 2 Farang) went to Au Bon Coin for dinner. My second time there and will certainly not be my last. For starters, two had salad with crab, one had prawn cocktail and one had smoked salmon. We were all very pleased with our choices. Main courses; two had grouper with butter sauce, one had boeuf bourguignon and one had 5 hour lamb. I had the lamb on a previous visit and the guy who ordered it and I agreed that it could not have been better and the portion was huge. The guy who had the beouf could not finish it as the portion was large. 3 coffees and 2 desserts and water to drink for 3 and Sprite for one. There was the obligatory amuse bouche and a nice surprise was a complimentary small dessert plate which included four freshly baked madeleines and four Chinese soup spoons with a heavily alcohol soaked sponge cake. It is not really necessary to order dessert if you only want a taste of something sweet. The service was very professional with the French owner taking the orders himself so there is no mix up and he can explain the dishes if you have questions. He speaks Thai very well, so my bf tells me. The whole dining experience was certainly first rate and one that we all enjoyed. The total bill was 2940 baht, with tip not included. They are closed on Tuesday and Wednesday and reservations are required as all the tables were full. The restaurant has a cozy ambience, but is a little hard to find. It is between Soi 5 and 6 off Pratumnak Rd. If you go from Soi 5 you come to a "Y". Go to the left of it to the second soi and turn left. It is on the left and looks like a house with only a menu on a stand outside the entrance to the grounds to indicate that there is a restaurant there. Pattaya French Restaurants - Au Bon Coin Quote
Guest HeyGay Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Yes The Coin is one of my all time favorite restaurants, especially for Lamb, I like the 5 Hour lamb Stew, its so yummy and so French, but don Quote
Gaybutton Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Sounds good to me. I have yet to try either of those, but based on what you two are saying I'm going to get there. Last night a group of seven of us went to the Bordeaux restaurant. We all loved that one too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jQOAY9DcBk Quote

Last night a group of seven of us went to the Bordeaux restaurant. Another favorite is Da Joe Pattaya Soi 11 great food and nice atmosphere, all Home cooked Italian, is what I enjoy, Dining at Da Joe is more than nourishment, it is an Italian education. For owner/chef Joe Parlati, Italian food is his life. Express interest in the paintings and Joe will take you for a guided tour. Every item on Joe's menu is home-made, all from the original Italian old-style recipes. There is a salad bar for those who need nourishment while waiting, as Joe will not be hurried. In the pasta line-up, vegetarian tortelloni alla ricotta e spinaci has a superb flavour. For lovers of gorgonzola, pan-fried beef steak that comes pocketed with the cheese with a fresh gorgonzola and red wine sauce is an aromatic delight. Another excellent meat dish is pork medallions, with a mushroom and Madeira sauce ?wonderfully tender meat and a smooth sauce. There is a range of pizzas, though Joe does not feel that the pizza represents the soul of Italian cuisine. For those who must eat Thai, there is also a small Thai menu with the usual stir-fries. On the quieter end of Pattaya's Walking Street. Entrance through a wine-cellar corridor into a pleasant, air-conditioned room with Italian paintings on the walls. There is a further covered, relaxed dining area outside over the Pattaya Bay waters. Menu favorites are for me. Quote
Gaybutton Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 we have not heard about Che Vicky of late, have you deserted that? No, not at all. We just ate there a couple of evenings ago and we like it as much as ever. We're usually there about once a week. I go to Chez Vickie for his Eggplant Parmesan. I really love that and as far as I've ever found, he's the only restaurant in Pattaya that makes it. If anyone knows of any other restaurants that also make it, I'd like to know. I also agree with you about the Marco Polo. That's the best Chinese restaurant this side of Singapore. It is really excellent and so is the service. If you're a Peking Duck fan, you definitely want to try the Marco Polo. The last time I was there it cost 1200 baht, but it's plenty for several people to share and it is always perfect. I am not familiar with Da Joe Pattaya, but it sounds like another great one to try. I'm not quite clear on how to get there. If I understand correctly, it is on the Bali Hai pier side of Walking Street and you would go up Walking Street to find it? Quote
