The Supertown Twitter (X) page is reporting that Dorothy's is now back with a photo of Mike and his partner James, and that they had a special "imported" sexy show from the Bangkok Circus Soi 4.

Anybody have any news?

That was the fastest bar closure and resurrection that I ever saw....

Breaking news - as of 3:45pm on 14 Sep 2024

Looks like a brand spanking new marquee is going up for the Supertown Jomtien Walking Street (Jomtien Complex).

I will be in the complex later tonight to see if they managed to get it hoisted and plugged in and illuminated.

Note the nice sexy muscle guy on the top right portion of the marquee.

If only it was true that you could find muscle hunks in the Supertown complex - instead it is twink heaven.

So, it seems that big investments are being made for the forthcoming next HIGH season = Yahoo!!!

Who do you think is paying for this? I find it hard to believe that the bars in that street, with reportedly low customer traffic, have the excess cash for this.

Each bar, restaurant, massage shop, hotel in the Jomtien Complex pays their rent/lease to the Jomtien Complex office.

These funds are used to enhance and maintain the appearance of the Supertown Complex - of which these new marquee signs are part of.

Just yesterday, a bar owner told me that the small massage shop in front of his bar was paying 40.000 baht monthly as their rent to the Jomtien Complex office.

So, if you look at the below official Supertown Jomtien Complex map - you can see that there are in excess of 50 business entities inside of the Complex.

Let us say that the average rental fee is 20.000 baht * 50 entities = 1.000.000 baht per month - as a conservative income for the Jomtien Complex leasing office.

It is most likely higher - so they can definitely afford to pay for 2 new large marquees to adorn the complex.

Tonight I was joking with many of the various business owners where the new marquee displays a sexy muscle man.  I asked them where are these muscle guys in the complex?  They all laughed and said to me only young twinks here.  One astute business owner said to me look at the color of the hair of the sexy muscle guy - it is not natural - what Thai guy has blond hair?

That's useful information. And that's a lot of money. But spending it on marquees is, IMHO, not the best way to spend it. Money would be better spent on (a) websites and social media promoting the area; (b) business consultants hired to reengineer the bars' business models towards more creativity, variety and customer satisfaction.

The way I see it, Jomtien Complex's ailment cannot be cured by figuratively shouting (with a lit marquee) at passengers in songteaws who happen to ride past on Thappraya Road. It can only be saved by attracting more visitors from afar (like France, Korea, etc). You can't do that with a marquee. You do that with a good product offer (thus, redesign the business models) and good advertising that goes out internationally (i.e. in multiple languages).

This lack of insight into what's needed is not restricted to Jomtien Complex. You could say the same of other gay areas in Thailand.

@macaroni21 I agree with what you wrote 200%.

There are already 2 websites, with social media attached to them, and unfortunately, in my opinion, they receive a small amount of views, due to poor marketing - I am not aware of any GLOBAL outreach to the greater community - like you mentioned (France, Korea, etc.).

The 2 websites that I am aware of are:

In my humble opinion, they should:

1.) Unite the marketing and advertising with Boyztown, Jomtien Supertown Complex, and Sunee Plaza,

2.) Market to those gays who are thinking about places to retire - and make Pattaya - Jomtien a known global retirement destination (HUB), like the Canary Islands, Key West, Mykonos, Palm Springs, Ibiza - Sitges are,

3.) Same as the above number 2, but with an emphasis on Pattaya - Jomtien as a gay vacation tourist destination --> especially in light of 2 recent Thailand government initiatives:

   - legalization of gay marriage,

  - government's desire to host the 2030 World Gay Pride event.

There are so many positive things that could be done - because the current 2 local websites are only local in nature and are inward focused, instead of being outward focused with a global emphasis.

There are also private landlords owning those shophouses .

I'm not sure if they (landlords) pay Strata /complex fees to the Jomtien office management 

You could of bought a shophouse there for 2 million back in 2008 ,would of been a good investment 

They the Landlord is only trying to increase their own value not the business owner 

As for customers, I was lucky to count 3 or 4 in most bars last May

Well - the new Jomtien Supertown Complex marquees are now up and operational.

In my opinion, this one above is quite impressive - especially for an area that has been zoned an area as being residential and not an entertainment area.

It is quite BIG.

This one is much smaller - as it is perched on the corner with an arrow to grab the attention of passersby who may not notice the larger marquee.

What do you all think?

mediocre - but that is to be expected - as it is still low season and also the rainy season.

but many empty shops in the area are starting to get new tenants and things are starting to be spruced up in anticipation of the oncoming hi season.
