Guest tuisplace Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 I've seen in on a number of other forums and it seems to do a good job registering one's approval about a posting, instead of creating a new post unnecessarily. So many good posts, so many times it's just nice to say "Thank you" - without taking-up too much server space. Would this forum ever implement such a thing? - Tui Quote
Gaybutton Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Would this forum ever implement such a thing? That's up to GT, but personally I see no need. If you knew how rare it was for any of us to actually get thanked for anything around here, it would make much more sense as to why I wouldn't bother making a special icon or code. Quote
Guest tuisplace Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Well "Thank you" for that Gaybutton. As a "Newbie" here (on GT) and as an Internet "Newbie" too, I find many good pieces of advice on this forum but I feel uncomfortable contributing by replying to some great opinions, that obviously have involved considerable brain power, by just using a diminutive, little "thank you". Perhaps now though, I won't be so shy. - Tui Quote
Guest Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 For each topic there is a Rating system to the very right of each thread. I think this accomplishes what you were trying to do. Quote
Gaybutton Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 For each topic there is a Rating system to the very right of each thread. Maybe there used to be one, but if it's there it's either no longer visible or it's very well hidden. If it's there, I can't find it. Quote

I looked for it too but couldn't find it. But don't get your knickers in a knot, GT, I probably wouldn't use it even if I could find it. Quote
Guest Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 I checked as a regular member, a moderator and an Admin and I see it on all of them. Do you see it on any thread on the very top on the right hand side? See attached at the VERY right. If you scroll over it, it will give you the option to rate. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 I see it on other threads, but not on this one. Quote
KhorTose Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 I see it on other threads, but not on this one. I see it on others too, but not here. However, it does not rate the individual post but the entire topic, so not really a thank you button. Quote
Guest tuisplace Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 The whole point I was trying to make was that by having a simple, noticeable method of acknowledging a token of gratitude, it negates the necessity to post a "Thank you" remark; which, can overrun some hot topics and make them hard to follow. I was curious to find an answer to this because one of my friends; who is a member of some kind of Black Hat forum, told me that forum members there can actually be banned for what are considered trivial postings that apparently hog server space and create no real value for anyone; except those that perhaps have some kind of an id (or is it ego) imbalance and constantly need to receive the acknowledgement and/or praise of their peers. - Tui Quote
pong Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Yes-I know this is a kind of standard feature in new fora-programs, I personally do not really like it, as it somehow stimulates multi-posters in a kind of (friendly or not) struggle of who gets the most points/hearts/credits or whatever. So I suggest: if you start with it, let posters choose if they want to get involved in it. Quote
