Guest lvdkeyes Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 Thanks. That worked. This is another idiot. Not only was he making speeches he shouldn't have been, but he had overstayed his visa. This answers my father's question: "Why are there more horse's asses than there are horses?" Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 I see he got a suspended sentence for the visa violation, presumably so he could immediately be rearrested on the more serious charge. I sure hope he ends up with a lot more than plain deportation. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 Max. sentence is 2 years. Two years in a Thai prison would be a fitting reward for his stupidity. Quote
Gaybutton Posted May 25, 2010 Author Posted May 25, 2010 Two Foreigners Arrested By The Nation, AFP Published on May 26, 2010 A Briton and an Australian have been arrested for joining the red shirt protests, officials said yesterday. The Australian, Conor David Purcell, 30, and the Briton, Jeff Savage, 49, were arrested and charged with breaching the emergency law, an offence which carries up to two years imprisonment, police said. Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said the pair were arrested for violating the state of emergency "and for their roles on stage during the rally". "For the Australian man it's not yet clear, but in the case of the Briton he's involved with the (red shirt) movement in Pattaya," Abhisit said. He said officials would also probe other allegations against the men. Two foreigners arrested Quote

Bangkok, the 28th of May 2010 [PDN]: Jeff Savage, a British national, is facing the possibility of a death sentence for his role in the Red Shirt rioting that broke out in Bangkok on Wednesday last week. Fronting court Savage was tearful, stating that his continued incarceration was distressing his 80-year-old mother. Unrepentant Foreign Red Shirts Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 Fronting court Savage was tearful, stating that his continued incarceration was distressing his 80-year-old mother. Now he sounds all innocent and victimised. Just like Thaksin. But the other farang, the Irish-Australian, seems to be asking for even more trouble with his manner in court. From the same article - “Nobody in this country has authority over me. I’m not under Thai law. I’m only obeying international law. I’m head of the red gang,” he yelled at the court. What a total jerk! Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 Fronting court Savage was tearful, stating that his continued incarceration was distressing his 80-year-old mother. Sorry his mother is distressed, but he should have thought of that before he acted in such a way that probably would have distressed her if she knew about it. Quote
Gaybutton Posted May 28, 2010 Author Posted May 28, 2010 Two low class louts for sure. To me, the best part is these two had no business involving themselves in the first place. Somehow I doubt Mr. Savage would have spouted off his bravado so readily if he had any idea that it could lead to a potential death sentence. Then there's the other guy shouting in court, Quote
Gaybutton Posted June 15, 2010 Author Posted June 15, 2010 Police Have 3 Days to Investigate Foreigners Published: 15/06/2010 A judge has given police three days to investigate two foreigners held for nearly a month for allegedly violating an emergency decree during bloody, anti-government protests. Briton Jeff Savage and Australian Conor Purcell are being held for their alleged roles in street clashes between red shirt protesters and government forces that left almost 90 dead and more than 1,800 injured during two months of demonstrations. Police asked the judge to extend their detention for another six days, but he authorised an extension of just three more days, in keeping with the emergency decree's detention limit of 30 days. Guest GaySacGuy Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 After spending over three months in Thai Prison, Purcell is being released and is expected to be deported. Here is the post from Thaivisa.com Australian 'Red Shirt' to be released: court BANGKOK (AFP) - An Australian man arrested for joining violent anti-government street protests in Thailand is to be freed after pleading guilty on Friday to breaching the kingdom's emergency laws, a court ruled. Conor David Purcell, 30, will be released because he has already served his sentence of three months, reduced to six weeks because he admitted the charges. "After consideration of his action the court found that he is guilty but because he is a foreigner he may not have understood the law," Judge Somchart Lertlikhitworakul said. Purcell will be taken from prison to an immigration facility and is expected to be deported to Australia. PattayaMale Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Sure the laws are different. There are many Thai laws that I don't understand, and seem to be interpretative differently because there is not much case law. But common sense would have been to not participate in rally's where violence has all ready occurred. Quote
Guest travelerjim Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Sure the laws are different. There are many Thai laws that I don't understand, and seem to be interpretative differently because there is not much case law. But common sense would have been to not participate in rally's where violence has all ready occurred. And...Might I add... The US Embassy, among other countries... issued warnings for their citizens to stay away and avoid crowds and gatherings in the Bangkok and any other provinces...where there were protests under way. It was good advice... but a few expats from other countries obviously ignored it... and now have been jailed, to be deported...black listed. tj Quote
Guest beachlover Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Connor Purcell has been sentenced (the jail term is equivalent to time already spent in jail) and will now be deported. Looks like he changed his mind and decided to plead guilty overnight. http://www.smh.com.au/world/aussie-to-face-thai-court-over-protests-20100820-12sb5.html "At his trial in June, Purcell denied breaching emergency laws despite advice from his lawyer to plead guilty, a move that was expected to lead to a speedy deportation to Australia. "He's not changed his mind," Siriporn Muangsrinun, Purcell's lawyer said." Then...the next day: http://www.smh.com.au/national/australian-goes-free-20100820-13916.html "AN AUSTRALIAN man who pleaded guilty yesterday to breaching Thailand's emergency decree during this year's anti-government protests has been freed by a Thai court." What a mindless moron... Quote
