Best Tailor in Pattaya for Shirts and Suits

Recommended Posts

I want to get some nice silk shirts hand made by a tailor. What is the best place for this in Pattaya?

I also want a nice suit. I need it for my trip to USA coming up soon. Any suggestions for this?

If you have tailors you use, please give me location to the best of your ability as I would appreciate as much info possible.

Thanks.

I have used Classic Tailor many times ever since my first trip here in 1995 and have always been happy with them. Ian from Cafe Royale recommended them to me. They are located across from Royal Garden nest to the Grand Sole Hotel that is set back from the road and turn left.

Jim Lumsden recommends JIM (no relation, of course).

JIM International

It has been a few years but I was not impressed with JIM International.

Convinced they used different fabric then we agreed upon and I think their actual tailors are not the best.

One thing you need to realize is that almost all these shops are strictly purveyors of fabric and there is no telling who will be doing the actual tailoring. It depends on how busy they are, how much time you are willing to give them . The woman or guy you see on the corner with a sewing machine is very likely to be doing your suit.

Make sure you keep a sample of the material you choose and compare it to the finished product. Don't pay more then 50% down so you are in a strong negotiating position.

I would not be surprised if all those tailors around the back of Tukcom did subcontract work. It's hardly the most obvious location to catch passing trade.

I have also used Classic Tailor and they've always done a good job.

It's always a good idea to have them snip off a piece of the fabric

and keep it for later comparison.

It's best to allow plenty of time so you can check everything carefully.

One time I had some shirts made at a tailor shop in a Bangkok hotel.

I was foolish and did this on my last day. They were delivered late

that evening and I just packed them away in my suitcase.

When I looked at them after getting home, I found they had

no pockets. Not exactly what I wanted, but hey, thats what happens

when you don't check things over carefully.

I know your taste GayThailand and I highly recommend Dave International Tailor on Walking Street. He is very professional and his work is stellar. I have used them on many occasions. Let him know I sent you along if you decide to check him out!

I've seen GT. I've seen his clothes. Where does taste enter into it? He makes me look like the Duke of Windsor.

That's very rude!

I knew the Duke of Windsor. I worked with the Duke of Windsor. The Duke of Windsor was my friend. Senator, you're no Duke of Windsor.

Oh well, that's the best I can do . . .

Another thing that might be helpful, especially if you want to look decent. Find out where I buy my clothes. Then go elsewhere . . .

I have seen your garb and you most defiantly look like the Duchess of Windsor and not the Duke. :)

I am heading to some of the places tomorrow to check them out. I have been somewhat of a hermit the past month or two just hanging out with the BF and wanted to be able to dress up in something other than Hanes Tee Shirts. :)

That's because GB suggested I use Jim Lumsden's tailor. Keep that in mind!

Does that mean your real name is Wallis Simpson?

In the 289 years I have lived in Thailand I have not found a 1st class tailor anywhere. Some short sleeve shirts turn out OK but any trousers and jackets I've had made would be better off on CoCo the Clown.

Go to Hong Kong or Singapore.

After my second visit to Pattaya, I became thoroughly disenchanted by the Indian tailors who pretty much dominate the industry. Shirts and suits are relatively shapeless and devoid of any character. They look like you had worn them in the rain and you were the one who had shrunk. Although I had paid for it in full, I returned the first suit to the tailor knowing I would not get my money back. I told him my other clothes flat refused to ride in the same suitcase. He was not amused and I did not give a damn. On my third visit, I discovered this small shop on the south side of Soi 17 about ten yards east of Second Road. I had two pair of dress pants made and never went to another tailor afterwards.

The old tailor there, about mid-sixties, (he looks like Gepetto without the mustache) does the suits. His wife does the shirts. My first job here required me to dress in king and queen colors on Monday and Tuesdays respectively. (I had her make two. They were 900 baht each) I have had policemen, bankers, my supervisor glowing in praise of those shirts. Before I settled in Thailand, my returns to work were greeted by by envious comments about the clothes I had brought home from Pattaya.

Prices are on par with many shops but about 15% less than Mr. Singh's, depending on design and material.

Happy shopping
