This just happened to me. I was with 6 boys and they came home and all shot in my face. :) Sorry, I could not resist.

I don't know what this means for Chomburi. My BF was supposed to go to Bangkok tomorrow for some business. I don't know whether to tell him to cancel or keep going forward. He was supposed to go to get his passport.

Where are you seeing that Chonburi is under a state of emergency? So far, this is the first I've heard of it. Nothing I saw this evening was out of the ordinary at all.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but I can't find anything in the media that says Chonburi is under a state of emergency or even mentions Chonburi at all. What is your source of information about this?

from TAN Network: Apart from BKK, Nonthaburi, Samut Prakarn, Nakhon Pathom, Pathum Thani and Ayutthaya, state of emergency now announced for Chon Buri,

Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lampang, Nan, Khon Kaen, Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Ratchasima and Si Sa Ket

Did they announce what this state of emergency entails? As far as I can tell, everything in Pattaya is perfectly normal. Everything is open and running. The bars are all open. I know of no kind of curfew being imposed. There is no more police presence than usual, and most of that presence is still nothing more than the usual fining of helmetless motorcycle drivers. There is no military presence of any kind. So far nothing has been announced in local English language media and I don't see anything about a state of emergency being declared anywhere at all, much less in other provinces, on the Bangkok Post or The Nation web sites.

Apparently, TAN is the only media source saying that Chonburi is under a state of emergency. So, assuming they are correct, what does this mean? Did they say?

reports seem to indicate that the SOE has been extended into other provinces where authorities think problems may develop now that the crackdown has started in BKK

there is also an (untimed) earlier report on the Nation web site:

"The Centre for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation (CRES) will advise the government to declare a state of emergency in 15 more provinces to block more red shirts from joining anti-government protests at the Rajprasong shopping area.

CRES spokesman Colonel Sansern Kaewkamnerd said the new provinces were Chon Buri, Nonthaburi, Samut Prakan, Pathum Thani, Ayutthaya, Udon Thani, Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Si Sa Ket, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Nan, Lampang and Nakhon Sawan.

The state of emergency was earlier declared in Bangkok and parts of Nonthaburi, Samut Prakan, Pathum Thani, Nakhon Pathom and Ayutthaya.

Sansern said the emergency was aimed at allowing the authorities to prevent red shirts in those provinces from travelling to Bangkok. He also said that the commanders of the Second and Third Army Regions were assigned by the CRES to work with the governors of those provinces to maintain peace there.

The decision was reached yesterday at a CRES meeting that was chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban, according to the spokesman."

Nation

the TAN report may have been confirming this is now in effect or badly worded implying it is already in effect

I confess I've always been confused about where, exactly, I live. There is a city called Chonburi, but Pattaya is in a Jangwat called Chonburi. So does this state of emergency for the province of Chonburi include Pattaya or just the city of Chonburi? If it applies to Pattaya, I'm with GB in not noticing anything out of the ordinary going on.

So does this state of emergency for the province of Chonburi include Pattaya or just the city of Chonburi?

Now that The Nation has confirmed it, their report says it is the province, which would include Pattaya. The article also says the purpose of declaring this state of emergency is to prevent Red-Shirts from traveling to Bangkok. Also the military is to work with the various governors in order to maintain peace.

In Pattaya, at least, there should be no problem maintaining peace considering the fact that everything has been, and still is, perfectly normal. So far there is no military presence or increase of police presence in Pattaya.

Again, my own fear is the possibility of terrorist activities in the wake of the crackdown and in the wake of the Seh Daeng shooting. Hopefully, Pattaya will continue to be spared any of that.

Ok Gentlemen an on the spot report.

1. No red shirts at City Hall - all in Soi Day night where there campaign HQ and radio station is based.

2. There is no difference on the streets, no army, no big contingents of Police that I have seen.

3. The emergency decree DOES allow authorities to take extra action if required. In this case one of the points is that the Army can stop red shirts from gathering and going to reinforce Bangkok - that is a key point.

4. It IS impossible to say what will happen next. Common sense says stay vigilant and avoid being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

My office, like all other businesses is open as usual. But see point 4!

Ok Gentlemen an on the spot report.

Thank you for that. I was downtown in Pattaya today too. I was on Soi Buakhao, Second Road, Pattaya Klang, and Pattaya Tai. I saw nothing unusual going on at all.

I was not around Soi Day-Night, so I have no personal observations to make.

Those of you in Pattaya, especially in the vicinity of Soi Day-Night, please keep us informed as best as you can.
