Guest fatsotommy Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Hi guys, have been following the discussions on Bumrungrad here and would like some advises. I am HIV+ and work in Hong Kong - on meds and condition stable for over a decade now. Just a cut a long story short, while I had been mostly sane and safe in my sex life, about 2-3 months ago I have had a number of encounters with another poz man, all bareback. Bad decision. I am tested reactive to syphilis and I suspect other STDs. While the health care is mostly good and free (for citizen) here, I have been doing some researches on getting treatments in Bangkok, mainly for privacy reason (which in my case outweights the cost consideration). A Singaporean friend has recommended Bumrungrad, which is where he's getting his HIV tests done and med supplies. He's however not been an inpatient. Any advises would be welcome and thanks in advance. Tommy, an expat in Hong Kong Quote

I'm not sure what kind of advice you are seeking. What do you need advice about? If you're asking whether Bumrungrad is a good hospital, the answer is yes. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 I have had a number of encounters with another poz man, all bareback. Bad decision. This is something that people may not be aware of. Simply because both partners are poz doesn't mean that safe sex should be abandoned. Even though both are poz each may have different strains of STD's and can pass them on to the other partner. Just a reminder! Quote

Thanks GB, I realise now that I should have been more specific, and that this topic (STD) is somewhat sensitive to discuss in an open forum. I suppose what I like is to hear from people that have gone through similar treatments (syphilis, etc) in Bumrungrad, which I am told is a very good hospital for "medical tourism". More specific if anyone has any doctors/specialists in this field to recommend. And finally I would appreciate if anyone can share their experiences. I have unlocked my email contact in the profile so if anyone would rather not talk about their experiences openly, they can contact me privately. This is something that people may not be aware of. Just a reminder! Yes and thanks lvdkeyes, I have learned my lesson. Until these recent encounters with the same person I have been very careful. My clinic actually tests us regularly and until earlier this year (and before these encounters with this one poz guy), I have never caught anything else sexually, even though the minor ones are almost as common as the flu in the gay community. While not trying to offer any excuses I have come to accept that these new infections could have seriously consequences. I suppose by sharing my predicament now people would realise that there are many STDs out there, and whether you're HIV or not, they can still cause a lot of serious health problems. Quote

And thank you for that. Everyone needs reminding on a regular basis. Quote
