How Much do you spend on an Average Trip to Gay Thailand

Recommended Posts

I think we all spend different amounts when we come to the amazing LOS. Thailand is full of some of the hottest gay action on earth. IMHO, I don't think anywhere else compares. I often get asked how much is spent on a typical stay and I tell everyone that most people can afford a trip to Thailand no matter what their budget. The largest cost is the airplane (for a short trip). What do you spend on a typical day in paradise?

Accommodation

Food

Taxis/Tuk Tuk/Baht Bus/Motorcyle Rental

Barfines/Off Fees

Tips/ShortTime/LongTime

Drinks/Alcohol/Booze/Liters

Miscellaneous

Do you realize what you're saying? The question suggests that every gay who comes to Thailand spends all of his time in the bars and taking boys off. I know you didn't mean it that way, but there is a hell of a lot more to Thailand than only sex and booze.

Roughly as follows:

Accommodation 6~700 Pattaya; 1100 BKK

Food 1000

Taxis/Tuk Tuk/Baht Bus/Motorcyle Rental 30 (Pattaya) more in BKK

Barfines/Off Fees 300~500

Tips/ShortTime/LongTime 1000~1200/1500 (Pattaya)

Drinks/Alcohol/Booze/Liters 450 (including his)

Miscellaneous 500

Might go for slightly better accommodation in Pattaya next time. The place I normally use is excellent in every respect, except the cleaner.

Food is often:

Breakfast -in price of hotel

Lunch - fruit on the beach, or maybe a little more

Evening meal -may be a "Sub" or a more substantial meal (e.g. Indian)

Internal air fares etc on top. Bar fines & off fees go down when visiting regions without such attractions.

My budget will probably go up "above inflation" next time, unless the sterling exchange rate worsens even more.

Data from my holdiay in Bkk 7 days and Pattaya 3 days in January (I write down every Baht I spend and for what I spend it and with whom, so later I can read again an prepare for the next holiday) average expenses per day:

Accommodation: 1300 (will be cheaper next time)

Food: 700 (I eat mainly food from stree sellers, the 700Baht average includes some fine dining with a friend which costs around 300 for each of us per meal)

Taxis/Tuk Tuk/Baht Bus/MRT/BTS: 400

Bar drinks (Gogo bar drinks, parties with friend in Thai4Thai gay disco): 500

Tips/ShortTime/LongTime: 600 (I went home alone more often then not, this has to change!)

Drinks/Alcohol/Booze/Liters: (expenses includes above) for me only water, Coke and various fruit juices and shakes, for friends about 2L of beer and 2L of whisky for the whole 10 days

Massage: 450

Miscellaneous (in my case clothes for me, cinema for us, internet-cafe negligable, mobile phone negligable, sauna, sightseeing, various other small expenses): 500

about 4500 Baht per day spending in Thailand

In my case I'm "with someone", which makes it even more expensive!

So that means adventures in bars cost twice as much (two people drinking and watching the sex show) and there are all the little "presents" and extras to get hair and nails done etc (a ladyboy can be high maintenance) and the inevitable entourage of friends that follow you to the movies or bowling....

And then there's the trips to visit Mama...more expensive than partying in Bangkok!

I never really tried to break it down but it looks like (including airfare from the US) it's running me about $3,000 US for 1 week and around $5,000 to $6,000 US for 2-3 weeks in high season.

Renting is defintely cheaper than owning.

And I have Gaybutton to thank for that. :p

I've averaged $1200/wk during my two trips, excluding airfare. On the first trip I spent a lot on the hotels...on the second trip I spent it on a guy.

On a daily basis, I would spend something like -

1000 Baht Accommodation

200 Baht Food

200 Baht Taxis/Tuk Tuk/Baht Bus/Motorcyle Rental

400 Baht Barfines/Off Fees

2000 Baht Tips/ShortTime/LongTime

600 Baht Drinks/Alcohol/Booze/Liters

800 Baht Miscellaneous (a bit of shopping, books, newspapers, etc.)

--------------------

4200 Baht

My usual travelling expenses from Penang to BKK or Phuket work out to about 3000 Baht to and fro, though I don't normally spend more than 4 days in BKK (I have occasionally stayed as long as a week in Phuket), but this is because it is fairly easy for me to get to either destination from where I live.

I have been to thailand over 36 times since 1994 so the bar scene isn't as exciting for me therefore my spending has decreased as well. I usually spend around 3500 not including airfare. I take travelers checks and always seem to have money left over but always have an ATM card for emergencies. Also i am now a confirmed butterfly so don't have the expense of a bf or his family to worry about. I have several friends I have known for years and spend most of the time (movies bowling etc)with them.

My main joy now is sitting at the green chair beer bar watching the traffic and chatting with the guys. My next trip i will be changing things a little and will rent a yearly place near the beach and will frequent the Jomtien places mostly. Have never rented beach side.

I set myself a ceiling of $250 a day when overseas, including accommodation, excluding air fares. In more expensive countries this is just about enough, but in Thailand I usually don't end up spending more than $200/day on average (I don't go with moneyboys).

My trips are a whole lot cheaper, now that I live here. But on a weeks trip to Pattaya I will probably spend around 20,000 baht including airfare and taxis, etc.

$350-$450 two-way ticket (9 hours, direct flight, charter, "last minute offer"), $15-$25 per day for accommodation, about $25 per day for rest expenses... all is per person, we travel with BF...

that why we have been in Thailand/Cambodia 5 times already for 2 weeks each in 2010 and I can't remember how much in prev. years...

On my earlier trips when I was poorer I spent much less... maybe $100 or 2,000 baht a day. I remember staying in one beach front place for 400 baht a night... Ah, simpler times.

Wow!?! Jack Benny (a now-deceased American commedienne who was a penny pincher) wants to go with you!

For those coming from the west to Thailand for a week and presuming they "off" somebody 3 times during that week, you'd really have to do it on the cheap to spend only 50,000 baht for the trip (including airfare). My guess is the average cost for a complete trip for a week is much higher than that.

[Whoops....I now realize you're talking about internal airfare within Thailand.....so, yea, it's probably doable at 20,000 baht for the week but even that sounds a little bit low if you take somebody off from the bars more than a couple of times. And I'm guessing that you don't drink alcohol much at the bars or elsewhere.]

I think it depends on accommodation... if you stay in budget accomodation for 1,000 baht a night it's quite easy to get by on 2,000 baht a day + whatever you pay for moneyboys if that's what you do.

In fact, looking at my typical day in Bangkok... aside from accommodation costs, some days I get away with only spending 500 baht...

1-2 meals (breakfast and sometimes afternoon tea) are usually provided by the hotel. If I'm not eating in the hotel I love eating street food in Bangkok, which costs next to nothing. Nothing better than popping downstairs to grab a bag full of jackfruit, some skewers and other bits and pieces and then feasting on it upstairs while watching TV or getting a bit of work done.

Drink wise... unless I'm having a big night, I don't buy more than 2-3 drinks when I'm clubbing. The last couple of boys I met weren't big drinkers so they usually said they were ok when I offered them a drink.

Of course, if I decide to eat at a nice restaurant, get a massage, do some shopping, buy a big round of drinks for a group of boys I meet or something else... then the figures all change.
