Gaybutton Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 I received information today that Manhattans Restaurant has changed ownership. The latest Pattaya Pride dinner was scheduled to take place at Manhattans on Sunday, May 16. I understand the new owners have canceled the dinner. I have not been told the reason why the dinner has been canceled. It has also come to my attention that the manager, Hugh Millar, who many of you may remember from the Ambiance, Symphony Brasserie, and the Poseidon Restaurant, has been fired. I have not been told the reason why he was fired. Those are, to the best of my knowledge, the facts. I will stick strictly to the facts and leave my personal opinion out of it. Quote
firecat69 Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 I do not know Hugh Millar so no comment on that and maybe there is a good reason for the Gay Pride cancellation. However maybe new owners will give a better product for the outrageous prices that are charged. I have eaten there twice with somebody else paying. The quality of the meat was mediocre at best and the service amateurish. Trying to compare themselves to the great NY Steakhouses such as Peter Lugar or Mortons is nothing short of ridiculous. They don't even measure up to Texas Roadhouse. Quote

That is quite a dig at a place that "compare themselves to the great NY Steakhouses such as Peter Lugar or Mortons". I've never eaten a steak in Thailand that can compare to those guys. Quote

Guest GaySacGuy Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 I was fortunate enough to have two Valentine's Day dinners at Manhattans when I lived in Pattaya (2007 & 2008). The food was very good, and the steak was as good as any I have had in Thailand. Everything was prepared nicely, and the service was above average. The price was pretty high, but two filet dinners, four drinks, and four courses was about 3000 baht..not really bad for a nice place on a holiday. It was very gay friendly at the time of my visits, and hope that doesn't go away! Quote

Not to argue the point but since 2 decent filets alone would be be 2500 baht or more, i believe a 4 course dinner and drinks would be closer to 4000 baht, if I understand correctly that you had appetizers and desert. I guess the key thing that you said was as good as any you had in Thailand and I suspect you meant Pattaya. Not a very high Bar to attain. If you charge NY prices you better give NY quality which they do not even come close to. Marriott Steakhouse on Sukumvit in Bangkok can meet the standard , Manhattans definitely does not IMO Quote
Gaybutton Posted May 7, 2010 Author Posted May 7, 2010 Marriott Steakhouse on Sukumvit in Bangkok can meet the standard , Manhattans definitely does not IMO How about Pattaya? Are there any restaurants in Pattaya you can recommend? I'm always on the lookout for a good prime rib, which I loved at Manhattans when the original manager, Tom, was there. But ever since Tom left, in my opinion the quality I enjoyed left with him. It just was never the same after that. Quote
Guest HeyGay Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Yes you could not have (Thomas Vicario(tom.vic2@yahoo.com)) a better friend than TOM, I became very close to him when he was starting to Create the Manhattans Restaurant as he had in New York on a few occasions, with similar projects, it Quote
Gaybutton Posted May 7, 2010 Author Posted May 7, 2010 he is even more successful now, running 2 very most amazing restaurants in PHUKET, if you are going there or wish to contact him, he will be pleased to hear from you? Don't you think the names, locations, and contact information for those restaurants might be a wee bit helpful? Quote
