TotallyOz Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 Does this new merger affect your travel to Thailand? Will it make it easier for you on your trips? Does it mean that you will switch which airlines you are traveling most with? I have been with NWA for years and am Platinum. They rarely, if ever, upgrade on international flights unless an overbooking in coach. I am also Platinum with Continental. They don't fly to Thailand so I use the mostly going to Brazil and Europe. I rarely travel with United. However, my Platinum with Continental will transfer over to Untied when they merge and I have been told that United often upgrades on their International legs. If this is the case, I will be greatly benefited by this merger. Anyone else? Quote
Guest GaySacGuy Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 I am also Platinum with Continental. They don't fly to Thailand so I use the mostly going to Brazil and Europe. Continental has been "flying" to Thailand for several months...in fact I am flying Continental to Las Vegas (vis Narita and SFO) in two weeks. However, what they are really doing is adding a Continental flight number to the United flight, and selling tickets. The only change it will make is the price!! The ticket on Continental, flying on United's planes, was $250 cheaper than the identical flight on United....So, it was cheaper to fly Continental on United, than to fly United????? And they are not Thai!! Quote
Guest pingalicker Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 I've flown United on all my trips to Thailand, 8 in all, and just love the airline. I've recieved 3 free trips Vegas to BKK round-trip from their frequent flier program. I have just under 25K in my Continental ff account. The e-mail I recieved from United tells me I should be able to combine the two accounts near the end of the year, when the deal is fully done. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 I used to fly United and had miles stored up. Suddenly a couple of years ago I received an e mail in January that my miles would expire the previous December. Crappy way to do business IMHO. Quote

Miles on Continental never expire, but United's mile do expire....so when they merge, are the old Cont. miles going to expire??? People could loose a lot of miles if they have been saving old miles!! IMO, a smart move for the company is to take the best of both airlines and merge them together. I was told that is what Delta would do. I am waiting....... Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 My point was they notified me AFTER they expired, not before. Quote
Guest GaySacGuy Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 A website for FAQ of the new merger, has the following to say about miles programs: Q. How will the transaction affect my Mileage Plus or OnePass miles? Do I have to use all of my miles before the merger is completed or risk losing them? Can I combine them now? A. Our OnePass and Mileage Plus programs will continue to operate independently until the merger closes. Miles in both programs continue to be valid and are able to be used according to existing program rules. The new frequent flyer program will blend valuable features of OnePass and Mileage Plus from United and Continental. Frequently Asked Questions | Let's Fly Together Quote
Guest painai Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 It's good news for me. Since I'm a Continental retiree, I will now have flight privileges on United along with Continental. Now I won't have an excuse for spending Songkran in Thailand next year. Quote
Guest kenrfc Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 Does this new merger affect your travel to Thailand? .... NO! After my last trip on an American carrier with Ugly Old Cow stewardesses who had attitude becuase their 401k just got clobbered in the latest merger I vowed "Never Again!" Now I always use Cathay Pacific. The stewardesses at Singapore Air are much prettier but it's a lot longer to get to Thailand. Hey! I may be Gay but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate feminine beauty! B) Quote
