You might be interested in the Chanthaburi Durian Festival: _____ World Durian Festival 2010 to Be Held in Chanthaburi in May Chanthaburi is recognized as the only province in Thailand, and in the world, where the majority of farmers are engaged in durian production. The province organizes a World Durian Festival each year to promote durian consumption and introduce its tourist attractions and local products. The 2010 World Durian Festival will be held from May 1 to 9 at Thung Na Choei Lagoon and Chanthaburi Stadium. The opening ceremony is scheduled for May 2 at 5:00 p.m. Visitors to this area will see rafts decorated with fruit and locally made products that make a name for Chanthaburi. They will have a chance to buy fruit, seafood, and other agricultural products of high quality directly from farmers. The festival will feature a food fair, a demonstration of making durian jam, a bazaar of local products under the One Tambon, One Product (OTOP) program, an exhibition on fruit production, a durian-eating competition, and cultural shows. It will also include various contests, such as food preparation from fruit and fruit decorations. Guest beachlover Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Oh man... Thanks for posting this. I LOVE durian. It's the King of Fruits. I'll have to make it to this festival one day. If you're not sure about whether you like the fruit, try some durian pudding. It comes in a tube like shape wrapped in Glad wrap and is available everywhere in grocery stores in Thailand... Nothing beats some durian pudding and a beer. Durian crepes, durian ice cream, durian cake and durian smoothies are also great... Quote

Guest beachlover Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 Well, it's not just the refrigerator... Just about everything smells when you've had durians around. You can smell it as soon as you enter your home. Hell, you can smell it walking down the corridor. That's why they're not permitted in a lot of public facilities and some venues. I don't mind the smell at all... it's a fragrant smell, but I'm acutely aware it is strong and others don't like it. So I tend to avoid having it at all, unless I'm having a quite night chilling at home, as it tends to stay in the system a while. Quote
