Gaybutton Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Yep, you guessed it. I clearly remember the powers-that-be stating emphatically that Pattaya has plenty of water to see us through this year. Is anyone surprised that the reality turns out to be a little different? _____ Water supply problems Quote
macaroni21 Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Last sentence of the PattayaOne report: "The Association is looking for a long term solution which is not yet forthcoming." They should invite a few Singapore companies to invest. In the last few years, Singapore has commercialised water reclamation on a large scale, taking water from drains and even sewage, filtering through nano-scale filters, plus other hi-tech processes. The output of these "water factories" is water quality that meet WHO standards, surpassing the quality of even conventionally treated water from rivers, etc. The ultrafiltration techniques even remove virus and bacteria. That said, the municipality still needs to do its part. Singapore's drains are being redesigned to capture water for the factories, instead of letting it flow into the sea. Whether any municipality in Thailand has that kind of political will is another question. Quote
Guest Soi10Tom Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 While solving Pattaya's water problems are way beyond my abilities, I did solve my home's problem with the continual turning on and off the water supply, and those little trucks that suck water out of muddy ponds, blow black smoke, and deposits that water in your home tank. I installed an 8,000 liter underground cement water holding tank....no more problems for the last two years. Quote
Gaybutton Posted May 1, 2010 Author Posted May 1, 2010 I installed an 8,000 liter underground cement water holding tank....no more problems for the last two years. Most homeowners, including me, installed those large blue holding tanks during that miserable drought we had a few years ago. Since then I've had no problems about water, but at the time I learned to be careful about who I'm buying water from if the city water runs out. It's been so hot over the past several days that the water stored in the tank absorbs much of that heat. Lately not only has it not been necessary for me to activate the on-demand water heater when showering, but the water coming from that tank has actually been hotter then I usually want from the water heater. mahjongguy Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 How much water was wasted during Songkran? Yeah, I know it looks like a *lot* but it's not much compared to the amount consumed every day by the hotels, condos, and businesses. In this village off of Jomtien Beach, the water supply just dribbles during the daytime, as most is diverted to corporate users. On April 19th, while the whole town was going nuts throwing water, the dribble (roughly about 1 psi) was no better or worse than usual. Well, since the city is busy issuing construction permits but can't be bothered to lay new pipes to the reservoirs, let's pray for rain. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 There is a difference between water consumption and wasting water. To compare water wasted during Songkran with corporate water consumption is comparing apples to oranges. Quote

To compare water wasted during Songkran with corporate water consumption is comparing apples to oranges. I responded to your question because I mistook it for an actual question. Now I see that it was a statement, an opinion that the local custom is wasteful. You'll need to discuss that with someone who is Thai. Quote
Gaybutton Posted May 6, 2010 Author Posted May 6, 2010 Apparently the water situation is destined to become quite serious unless we get a lot of rain in the right places, and soon. Photos and full article: Hot Weather Causing Pattaya's Reservoir to Run Dry Hot Weather Causing Pattaya’s Reservoir to Run Dry Pattaya is slowly but surely running low on water as the hot weather looks set to stay causing reservoirs to dry up and water services to be cut resulting in supplies at night only. Pattaya 5th May 2010 [PDN] Reports regarding the affects of the exceedingly hot weather in April this year states that the water in Mabprachan reservoir is getting lower with each day, with the water for supplying production found to be lacking in Banglamung and Pattaya City area.
