Another Member on Moderated Status

Recommended Posts

We had a harsh post today that was over the top and put the member on moderated status. We did this to keep posts from being live before we read them. When someone is placed on Moderated status, their posts simply become invisible before they are made public.

This particular poster was treated harshly be several in a thread. I'll be one of the first ones to say that several were attached in this tread and it was a one sided debate. One of that that went over the top was myself. I can't put myself on Moderated status for calling someone a troll but I'll try to be nicer in the future. And, to this individual if I went overboard in my debate with you I apologize. I tend to take a lot of shit at times but I also dish it out at times and I try to pace myself when this happens. Your moderated status is only until we see that your future posts are in line with the board policies.

We do the best we can to keep the site moving forward and at times we make difficult decisions. When a post is in question, we normally move to a forum to discuss. In this case, it was obvious that the post was meant to belittle someone and was removed immediately. I wish things like this would not happen but sometimes they do.

We encourage debate but in a gentleman's atmosphere.

Let's be accurate. My post was deleted. It was not rendered invisible when I posted it because of moderated status. I know because I saw it posted and then vanish almost two hours later. My second post asking what happened to my first post was then "moderated" was never allowed to be posted.

I don't think my post was harsh or over the top. It was a fair response to the comments made by GB that "calling names" was not allowed, after everyone in the thread, including you, had been calling me a troll for two days.

It's now obvious that double standards are being applied here to posters and moderators. The rule seems to be: moderators can call posters names but not vice-versa. I don't think that's a fair way to operate any board. Your apology is accepted but it might have more weight if you let the board members decide for themselves if my reply to Gaybutton was over the top.

Actually, posts are not deleted. They are set to Invisible. I can see it and so can the other Moderators. So, it is not really deleted. It is just not visible to the rest of the world. :)

I agree that thread got out of hand.

I don't think double standards are being applied. No need to let anyone decide but me. I made a decision and it stands. I appreciate that you accepted my apology and hope that we can now move on.

I went back and read this topic and I agree with DanT, and I do not care who he is on Baht Stop. I am surprised at many of my favorite posters who got caught up in this. To me, definitely a double standard and I only hope that it was caused by all the tension we are all going through with the current government situation. Yes, GB before you say it, I know if I do not like it, "don't let the door hit me in the ass", which is still your favorite saying.

I will admit that GT's apology was appropriate and the right thing to do, and I do complement him on his ability to admit when he is wrong, but I do think other people need to add theirs.

Is it? When was the last time I used that saying?

DanT wants to compare what I do on this board to what I do on Baht-Stop. Baht-Stop has a different set of rules from this board and I do use very cutting terminology on Baht-Stop, but I'm not violating their rules. They freely permit it. In most, I grant you not all, but in most cases my cutting posts are responses to completely unprovoked personal attacks directed at me. I'm criticized for using those kinds of terms when I post on Baht-Stop, but I have yet to ever see those same critics chastise the other people who do precisely the same thing and usually are the ones who start it. Just me in the wrong, but the others who post flames and start those kinds of posts . . . that's perfectly ok? Who is the real hypocrite?

This board has its own set rules and they are enforced at the discretion of the moderators. If some of these posters get their jollies through shitting on me on other boards, that's up to them and the moderators of those other boards, but I'll be damned if I'm going to let them shit on me, or anyone else, here. They love to dish it out, but when it comes to taking it . . . well, you really don't need me to finish that sentence, do you?

You think I owe an apology? You're entitled to your opinion, but I decide for myself when to apologize. You may recall when I publicly apologized to you. I decided that for myself because I felt I owed you an apology. So now here you are making uncalled for remarks directed toward me.

In DanT's case, I think he's the one who needs to apologize to me, but I already know that will never happen.

Don't forget that you also did not see the offending posts. :) That may have shed more light on the situation for you. But, they will stay Invisible and for that I don't apologize. :)

I don't think so. Also, I know that DanT was ONLY here to cause trouble and to pick a fight with others. It was obvious from his posts. And, while I agree that I should not have called him a troll, there is no doubt in my mind that he was here to cause problems. That was his only intent. Did it work?

I have absolutely no idea what this sentence means.

GT--I am afraid we will have to agree to disagree on this subject. Even without the post that was deleted it is clear to me that he did not start the name calling.

I have absolutely no idea what this sentence means.

Then I'll help you. It means the sentence I quoted in my post above. I felt that was totally uncalled for and I am offended by it. You wrote that is still my "favorite saying." I publicly and sincerely apologized to you for it July 29 of last year. I asked you when the last time I used that "favorite saying" was. You did not answer. Now I'll carry it a step further and ask you how many times I've ever used it.

Why, nearly a year later, are you throwing it in my face now?

Oh Dear!!! Now Baht-Stop has turned into a political Web Site, this site is turning into what BS was a witty Forum with GB defending himself, as he knows best.

As most of us missed the drama post, How exciting, can

The offending DanT post includes an expletive directed at another member.

In football parlance, that would be considered as giving the referee every change to dish out a yellow card. On balance, I think the post merits moderating out.

There have been other posts in the last week that perhaps don't quite step over the line, but get close to it.

Anyway, my suggestion is just move on from it. You are welcome to carry on posting here within the rules of this board.

I have no idea when you last used that expression or how many times you have used it. My only way to find out would be to go through all of your post, or ask the question of the other boards and see if anyone knows of other instances. I do not have the time to do the former and no interest in doing the later. However, I have absolutely no problem with admitting I am wrong, and if you have not used this expression since our discussions over Francois, then I do apologize for bringing it up again.

I have not used that expression since then. I thank you for apologizing. If only the Thai government and the Red-Shirts could resolve their disputes so easily . . .

I have had a quick look through my posts on what I believe is the offending thread. I am always perfectly happy to apolgise if I feel I have made a mistake or stepped out of line. In this case, I see no reason.
