Guest fountainhall Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 One of the things I like about the gaythailand site is the variety of subjects discussed. Having an hour to kill, I decided to get a better handle on the most viewed threads since the start of the year. I believe (since it was only a quick check) these are - 1. Sex Toys - 8 posts - 2,692 views 2. SuneePlaza.Info Quote
Guest Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 One of the things I like about the gaythailand site is the variety of subjects discussed. I wish I could detect a pattern, but it is all starting to seem a rather pointless exercise . I agree with you and always check this site daily when I wake up and before going to bed. I find the posters here the most interesting and entertaining of any of the forums. It is because of you guys that we are also the most viewed forum in Gay Thailand and have had more users online than any other site. I wish I could also detect a pattern. I think the sex topics are always popular but the Hospital thread?????? Quote

Guest RichLB Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 Let me add my kudos to the board. Almost without exception, the posters here have been informative, objective, and kept their inputs non-personal even when disagreeing. It is refreshing to find a place where a diversity of topics AND views can be presented civilly. Quote
Guest Astrrro Posted April 23, 2010 Posted April 23, 2010 It's always interesting to looks at hits divided by posts to see what turns on the lurkers. Sex toys wins by a mile! Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Just imagine how many hits a thread would have if it was titled "White Boys, on their first day in Pattaya, using Sex Toys to Protest the arrest of a Sunee Bar Owner on his way to Bumrungrad Hospital!" Love it. But suggest it should be "White boys in red shirts . . . " Sex toys wins by a mile! I also found that fascinating and is why I included it even though it's not strictly in 'this year'. I really wonder why it is of such interest. Quote
Guest DanT Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 I find the posters here the most interesting and entertaining of any of the forums. Maybe that's because 90% of the posts are by moderators, meaning you, Gaybutton, Jomtien, Z909 and whoever else is moderating now. This has got to be the only posting board in Thailand with more moderators than regular posters. If the guy called Fountainhall stopped posting, that percentage would probably jump to 95%. I'm not saying owners and moderators shouldn't be allowed to post, but moderators acting as cruise-ship social-directors on an empty boat is too much. It would be nice to be able to find a thread that doesn't have some moderator's tracks all over it. Quote

Other than myself, moderators are posters first. They volunteer to help with moderating second. So, your analogy is a bit off. Quote

Judging from the number of readers compared to the number of posts, it would seem that gaythailand enjoys a considerable degree of popularity. Quote
PattayaMale Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Well the reason I post is that GayThailand himself pays me 20 baht a week to keep the numbers high. Quote

I happen to like it that the moderators/owners put on a lot of interesting material. I also appreciate GayButton putting on the news artilces and information, such as the latest from the American Embassy here in Thailand. Some boards seem to be for infighting and fighting...but this one is great for information!!! Quote
Gaybutton Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Why is anyone even responding to Mr. DanT? He has a grand total of 7 posts on this board and cries about how many posts I and others write. Troll with a capital T. He is at liberty, just like anyone else, to go to other boards if he doesn't like this one or who posts on it how many times. If it's my posts he specifically dislikes, is anyone out there twisting his arm to read them? Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Just look at all the post that have been made since the Troll posted his bit. Quote

Troll with a capital T. There my friends is one of the reasons why this board has so few posters outside its owner and moderators. Newcomers who are critical of too much insider traffic are called trolls by Gaybutton or told to stop whining by GayThailand. Meanwhile, 17 out of 20 posts are by the same few people, replying to the same few people, stroking each other on being "the most interesting and entertaining posters of any of the forums." Who would want to join that circle jerk ? Quote
Guest Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 Newcomers who are critical of too much insider traffic are called trolls by Gaybutton or told to stop whining by GayThailand. Really? Is that the reason? Go back in time and show me the number of times I have told someone to stop whining. Go back and show me the number of times Gaybutton has called some a Troll on this board. I doubt you will take me up on the above. Why? Gaybutton is many things but he is often right. In this case he is right, with a capital R Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 There my friends is one of the reasons why this board has so few posters outside its owner and moderators Oh dear! Oh dear! If there's one thing I like less than trolls, it is trolls who make sweeping, inaccurate generalisations. For DanT's information, a quick count of January alone shows there were at least 76 different posters. Go on, count and check DanT! And perhaps you will tell us how many of those are owners and moderators? Get your facts straight next time! Quote
Guest DanT Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 What does the number of 76 total posters last January have to do with the fact that most posts are being made these days by the moderators and two other guys. Just look at the names in this thread and you'll see what I'm talking about. If you want to see the big picture, look at the list of 10,198 members with 26,500 posts. Then total up the posts made by the Moderators (GayThailand, Gaybutton, Stef, Jomtien, Z909),and two regulars (Fountainhead and Lvdkeyes) and you'll find that these seven names have over 15,000 posts, which is more than all of the other 10,192 members combined. It's no skin off my back if you guys want to massage each other over how great your posts are. That doesn't give any of you the right to label as a Troll anyone who disagrees with you. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 To be accurate and fair, it must be noted that Jomtien and Z909 have just become moderators in the past couple of weeks. Quote

On that note, I'll say that one of the great pleasures of owning a board is to make judgment calls. Therefore, let it be known from this day forward that DanT is a TROLL. I have thus proclaimed and therefore it is so. Quote

Guest Jason105 Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 One of the things that is fascinating (like watching a car-wreck from the relative safety of the sidewalk) is watching someone tell someone else how to do what they are either unwilling or unable to do themselves. The moderators of this board have created a community that is, above all else, civil and civilized. As far as I am able to tell, they do not require that anyone visit nor do they hold you hostage once you are here. I would imagine that one of the reasons that people go to the trouble and aggravation of maintaining a board such as this is so that they can share ideas, etc. Why, then, is it unreasonable to expect that they would use the board to do just that? It seems such a simple thing to keep your mouse moving if the site does not satisfy your participatory requirements. In the meantime, good luck in locating a site that makes you happy. To the moderators, thanks for all the work and dedication in keeping the site informative and fun. While many of us may not have hundreds or thousands of posts, we visit regularly and feel a part of the community nonetheless. As long as you are willing to put up with all of this, I will continue to be a regular! all the best Quote
