What is the easiest way to see what shows are on UBC at what time? I like American Idol and several other shows. I am trying to plan my schedule for these things. Any suggestions?

If you are a UBC subscriber, they send you a booklet each month with their entire listings - in English.

For shows such as American Idol, you can also download them within hours of the broadcast from eztv.

If you don't have the program guide sent out each month, just go to http://www.truevisionstv.com/home.aspx . Click the icon for English and then go to program schedule. You have access to all the program times, including StarWorld's "American Idol" repeat after repeat.

There is also a button on your remote just below the one that says INFO. I am not at home, and I don't remember how it is labeled. You can check channel by channel for up to 24 hours.

If you are wanting to watch US TV shows, UBC isn't the ticket. The only show I know that airs on UBC with up to date shows is Survivor. It airs in the US Thursday evening, and is on UBC Friday afternoon, usually about 2:00.

Thyere are a number of other US shows that are up to date on UBC(True Visions); the ones that comes to mind are American Idol, Dancing with the Stars and America's Got Tallent.

I'm surprised no one has suggested http://www.eztv.it . It carries most US and British TV shows for download. I find I am able to receive the programs via EZTV before TrueVisions airs them. Even better, since TrueVisions often carries programs a year after they are aired in the states, you can also download the old shows to catch up on what you've missed. And the best part is that commercials are filtered out. Since you like American Idol, you'll rejoice in not having to sit through a 3 minute interruption after every performance.

Didn't you read my post above? I suggested it there, although I didn't go into the detail you did in your post.

Nope, didn't see it, but do now. Doesn't hurt to post the actual address, though, since it ends it that odd ".it" instead of .com or .org. Never seen that before.

OK. Anyone with a Mac, can you tell me what I need to download to get this to work?

I don't have a Mac, but think the process is the same no matter what platform you use. First you need to download a P2P application. You can get Ares or Vuze (I prefer Vuze)or some other one. They are free and work with both Windows and the Mac, i believe. Once you have done that, on EZTV you just click on one of the little icons to the right of the file you wish to download and it will begin downloading on your P2P application. Depending on the number of people who have the file you are getting the time can take from an hour to (gag) several days to receive. The usual time for the shows I watch is about 2 hours to download it. Hope this helps.

Yes, it helped. Thank you! I tried this today. A few observations.

1. I was really surprised at the great quality of the download. I assumed it would be low quality. I was very mistaken.

2. For some reason, the downloads slowed down my entire online home. The BF's computer was slow. My Internet connection was slow. I don't know why this happened as it NEVER happens when I download on Itunes.

3. I had a few bugs and glitches when I tried to get everything to work and it took a few tries. But, I finally got it all to work.

4. If you have a PS3, you can also stream these videos onto your TV. I can't do that with the ITunes and they are DRM.

We may be having a private conversation so feel free to delete this if you think it is of little interest to others. The slowing down of your computer during a download is most probably explained by the amount of memory you have on your machine and what other applications are running simultaneously. I have not noticed any slowing on my machine even when downloading sevral programs/movies at the same time. The P2P program you are using can also effect speed. If you are using Ares, it is a memory hog. I find Vuse to be faster. Unfortunately, I don't know if they work on Macs or what P2P programs are available for tha platform. As to the speed of downloading, that will depend on how many other people are downloading the program you want and how many other machines are connected to the torrent at the same time. Play around with the options on your P2P program and I think you'll solve the slowdown program.

Several people I've spoken to, even with different cable companies, lost the Bloomberg channel this week and also were upset. I suppose if enough people call and complain they might restore it, but I think the most likely reason they would have dropped it would if they started having to pay a lot more for it.

Most definitely not. It is the fastest Apple on the market. :) But, the computer ran fine. The thing that slowed down was the Internet connection. It was really odd. I could not even access any sites as they all timed out. Apparently, this is a real bandwidth sucker. And, even when not downloading, it is the same. All very odd to me.

But, you are right Rich. I have to play and test and see how I can get better at this. It is all new to me and thus I am sure my settings are not optimized.

Thank you guys again for suggesting this. I won't be using it for regular stuff that I can get on Itunes, but I will for American Idol and other things that go bump in the night.

That's what to do, then. If you're having problems with the speed, the thing to do is start the download when you're ready to go to sleep. Then, when you wake up, your download ought to be there.
