I couldn't read the full article, for some reason.

Last time I looked, the BKK-Luang Prabang route seemed to be served by Bangkok Airways/Air Lao. The pricing made this look rather like some sort of cartel.

If I remember correctly, flights from BKK==>Udon Thani and Chiang Mai ==>BKK were about

and there is a consul in Savannakhet-just opposite Mukdaharn-with the 2nd bridge in between. Thaivisa.com has all that info.

NOK air has got a new strategy and wil not operate foreign flights anymore.

The quoted prices are not outrageous for BKK-air, the other ones are domestic and low-cost.

Bangkok Air markets itself as a boutique airline - not a low cost one. So its fares are generally on the high side on all routes

Some years ago it used to have a very good flight/fare covering several World Heritage sites at Sukhothai, Luang Prabang, Hue and Siem Reap. I guess the demand was not there and they ditched it.
