TotallyOz Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 The BF and I spent the afternoon at Central Festival's new mall next to VT6 on Second Road. We had wanted to see the movie How to Train your Dragon in 3D and went there for the show. A few notes about this place. If you have not been before, there are so many food choices that you may have a hard time deciding. There is something for everyone. There seem to be more than a few Japanese places there. The mall is 6 floors of shops and treats. We found some "original" shirts for 280 baht that we bought and since I had just seen them in LA for 120 US, I was amazed at how we would get them for so low a price. So, be careful and don't think everything there is original. The movie theater is great and they must have at least 10 theaters. They are clean and really easy to access. They do have a bowling place but it is not as big as Major. There are so many shops that you will not be able to see them all in one day. The mall cuts all the way from 2nd road to Beach road and has entrances on both sides. I was surprised when we arrived that the motorcycle lot was full. Not just a little but over packed. So was the car area. Once inside, all the restaurants were full and there were mobs of people. It was a Monday and not a weekend and I thought it would be empty. The opposite. It was a very crowded place. Quote
Guest jomtien Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 That's all well and fine but........what did you get me? Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 If the movie you want to see is in theater 4 be prepared to climb the stairs, about 30 of them is my guess. Quote
atri1666 Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 You can try the first class cinema with the boyfriend... free cocktail and snacks and drinks during the film. The electronic big armchair was great and we have been alone.... Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 FREE cocktail and snacks? The cost of first class cinema is 600 baht. Quote
Guest Patexpat Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 But the first class cinema IS nice ... and you can take drinks including wine/beer in with you ... a special treat! Quote
Guest joseph44 Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 I do find the parking facilities pretty bad. I suppose that the parking is used by the beach-goers as well. The motorbike parking is a crime; there are "running" a few security-guards around.....why don't they shut down this motorbike-parking at some point? If you would like to park your motorbike safe: Park it at Royal Garden Plaza basement and walk or take a song taew to Central Festival. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 I agree that first class is nice, but I wouldn't say that anything is FREE when you pay 600 baht for a ticket. We have never had a problem parking the car. I don't know about motorbikes. Quote
Guest HeyGay Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 After loosing 17 kg for not eating for 3 weeks, and looking most exciting with my new body, I have had to buy a new complete wardrobe, from extra large to now large. I have bought quite a lot in the Bangkok shops and went to this new Central Plaza, to buy more, its so big with so many shops, I was lost for choice, I am also having the last after effects of treatment, I was having to cure me, which was no taste buds and lack of appetite, with all the choices I found a nice unit that sold Chicken Korma, as I cant eat strong Curry, it was the first time I had tasted food to be similar to what it should be, I Quote

We have never had a problem parking the car. I don't know about motorbikes. Was there with boyfriend before. After welcome we got a cocktail and the menue with the free drinks. There have been plates with toasts and small sandwiches. For the movie we could choose extra drinks free and the usual snacks for the movie. For the same price in germany i get nothing only the normal seat Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Maybe you haven't noticed, but this is not Germany. Quote
atri1666 Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Maybe you haven't noticed, but this is not Germany. Sure i have noticed since 1983 (my first visit in LOS)+ in germany i get nothing free in the cinema for the same price. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 You don't seem to understand that comparing prices in Thailand to western countries is akin to comparing bicycles to frogs. Quote

lexusgs Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Atri, Have you tried The Porch cinema inside the same complex? I agree the First Class cinema is good value, but the Porch is open air with great views if the beach and has large round beds to share with your friend. Same price drinks included....check it out it's great. Its right next to the entrance for bowling. Quote
Guest cdnmatt Posted March 24, 2010 Posted March 24, 2010 Lucky you. I actually miss going to the movies. Would love to, but they don't have English sub-titles here. I will go every once in a while though when the BF really wants to see a movie, but can't say I like it. I can pick out words and phrases here and there, but still don't know enough Thai to understand what the hell is going on. Quote

I thought it was a love story. WRONG. A few hundred tears later.... The Porch is great. Comfy chairs/beds. A nice view of Pattaya and a real unique experience. The rate was 500 baht per person. I love the water dripping by our bed. Quote
lexusgs Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 GT, Yeh it's a great place...one tip for the guys here would be pick a place away from the back wall. If you don't you won't hear your movie because of the noise from the bowling place next door. Quote

Naturally, that is always where the BF wants to sit. Next time, we will sit in middle. Quote
