Guest HeyGay Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 No I'm not a butcher but go and try the KOBE steak at Alois Restaurant, your mouth will explode in the excitement of having the best meat you have ever tasted. If on here we can stimulate some guys to venture out to the "Light Side" of restaurants alone, it will be some achievement, because there are other places to eat not just for living, but eating for enjoyment also, so in other words, you don't have to always find the cheapest place to eat to survive, there is restaurants where the food is most enjoyable, that cost just a little more, but as we do love to hear about any new place to eat, don't forget to write about it here. Gaybutton Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 there are other places to eat not just for living, but eating for enjoyment also It's very kind of you to tell us the absolutely obvious when the perfectly obvious would have done just as well. I love your assumption that the places some of us, probably meaning me, choose to eat is for survival, but not for enjoyment. Guess what . . . I only eat in restaurants I enjoy. Why do you post as if unless we eat in restaurants you happen to like, then we must not be enjoying our food? If that is truly what you think, then your thinking is a little strange, to say the least. Kobe beef? Where is your assumption coming from that you need to explain the merits of Kobe beef, just as if you know more about it than everyone else or that others haven't tried it? I've tried it too. I agree it's excellent, but unfortunately I don't have the equivalent of your great wealth that you consistently brag about to be able to have it very often. While I am sure most people reading your posts are greatly impressed with you, almost as much as you seem to be impressed with yourself, not everyone has the luxury of your enormous riches. Quote

That would be hard to do since they don't serve Kobe beef there. They serve Wagyu beef, which is "Kobe Style" beef. Quote

Gaybutton Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Wagyū (和牛?) refers to several breeds of cattle genetically predisposed to intense marbling and to producing a high percentage of oleaginous unsaturated fat. The meat from wagyū cattle is known worldwide for its marbling characteristics, increased eating quality through a naturally enhanced flavor, tenderness and juiciness, and thus a high market value. In several areas of Japan, beef is shipped with area names. Some examples are Kobe, Mishima, Ōmi beef and Sanda beef. Highly prized for their rich flavor, these cattle produce arguably the finest beef in the world. These different breeds produce beef that range from expensive (by any measure) to extremely expensive (about $500 USD per 150 grams of filet steak sold retail in Japan). Guest jomtien Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Eye ken gooogal two! The massive increase in popularity of Kobe beef in the United States has led to the creation of "Kobe-style" beef, taken from domestically-raised Wagyu crossbred with Angus cattle, in order to meet the demand. Kobe beef - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Similar but not the same. Nor as expensive, thank god. Quote

Sorry GB I was not thinking of you, when I said some guys, live to eat and some, eat to live, because I know you eat well. I was thinking of a few people who live on a small Pension I know, who only eat enough to sustain life, and the thought of paying more than 40 baht for a meal is beyond there budget, unless once a week they go to a Buffet style restaurant. Sorry if you read into my posts that I think if you dont eat where I eat, it cant be good, the very reason I'm asking here is the opposite, some of the places I have eaten lately, is not up to my standard and I'm asking for better places to eat, no matter its 299 from Oliver's or Alois where they have meals from 550 baht to 1500 for a Japanese Steaks, that melts in your mouth. They would hardly charge 1500 if it was a copy. Sorry to disappoint you again, I don't now have the great wealth I use to, but I have gained a better income to when I had problems selling my Hotel business in the UK. So I hope it clears your mistaken Idea I'm against you and bragging about wealth, I am comfortable off now and very happy, but still love to find good cooks. In town. where you get what you pay for quality does not have to cost a fortune thats for sure. Once again GB its not you I'm writing to when I explain about KOBE BEEF many guys reading this have no idea what it is and never heard of it, and would like to know of its merits. I know many guys who like to splurge out on a special occasion, so save up for the likes of KOBE Beef, I know I did and you must have when you had yours, and it was like sucking a wonderful orgasm. Don't worry I'm fully aware that any thing I say, can be read in a negative way, but this post is written in a very positive manor, I can assure you. GB Said: - Kobe beef? "Where is your assumption coming from that you need to explain the merits of Kobe beef, just as if you know more about it than everyone else or that others haven't tried it? I've tried it too. I agree it's excellent" end Now I notice above you are contradicting yourself, by now thinking the readers may need a lesson in KOBE STEAK, you do make me laugh but I like you. Quote
Gaybutton Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Now I notice above you are contridicting yourself I am? In what way? If you are referring to the post I submitted about the beef, that was to settle the little dispute between you and Jomtien. However, if I am contradicting myself it's not the first time nor will it be the last. I'm slightly more of a complex person for everything to have to be be either black or white and never any shades of gray. Also, though it has nothing to do with this particular thread, every so often I do this really bizarre thing called changing my mind. For example, do you recall my objection to you referring to another board by replacing one of the words in its title with the word "fart"? I had a look at that particular board a few moments ago. Judging from some of the attack posts going on there, all about yours truly, if I was in favor of name calling I would reverse my objection. I still prefer not to use name calling (except, of course, when I am on that particular board and on the attack - another contradiction), but regarding my past objection to your opinion, I've changed my mind. Speaking of changing my mind, maybe that's a good idea. Some people out there have strong objections to the mind I'm currently using . . . Quote
Guest HeyGay Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Wow I had to read that 3 times to get my head around it, but it just goes to show, as you know, with your battles, on the boards, GB if you know what your talking about and others try to contradict you and try convince other weaker minds, you don Quote
Gaybutton Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 Wow I had to read that 3 times to get my head around it Even you and I can agree once in a while. Miracles do happen on occasion. I suppose if Jesus can appear on the inside lid of a jar of marmite, other miracles can also happen . . . Now, maybe we can get back to bickering about restaurants. Quote
Gaybutton Posted March 23, 2010 Posted March 23, 2010 I did not know you really had these special powers Now you know. Any chance of getting back to restaurants? Quote
Maple Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 Getting back to the subject of this thread... I have eaten at Chez Vickie Restaurant 6 or 7 times and have enjoyed the food every time as have my friends dining with me. I typically order from the set menu which offers four main courses: pad thai, grandmother's style chicken stew, pork chop with mushroom sauce, and beef bourguignon. There is also one other daily special on offer. Soup, salad, main course, and drink (like water) total 380 Baht. BTW, the "tuna salad" is actually nicoise salad and is superb! On a recent night, there were 24 customers including two 6-person tables of French Canadiennes. Chez Vickie is now one of my favourite restaurants. For bookings, call Vickie at 0890123633. Location: opposite Bordeaux Restaurant on Soi Day-Night 2. Quote
Guest Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 I have seen this place but not had a chance to visit yet. I like the decorations. I am looking forward to a nice dinner there and wish them good luck in their business endeavors! Quote

Gaybutton Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 If you need a gown, nice place. If you want decent food go across to Bordeux! Everybody is different. I like Bordeaux, but I like Chez Vickie much more. Besides, I can always use another gown . . . Quote
Guest Hereforme2 Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 Everybody is different. I like Bordeaux, but I like Chez Vickie much more. Besides, I can always use another gown . . . I realize you are trying to be diplomatic! But Chez Vicki is bloody awful! Quote
Gaybutton Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 But Chez Vicki is bloody awful! Not according to me, my friends, and many others. In all honesty, the way you feel about Chez Vickie is how I feel about Bordeaux. I think Chez Vickie is excellent. I enjoy it very much and, as I said, so do my friends. Only a few nights ago six of us were there and every one of us loved it. I'm glad you like Bordeaux, but I'll be across the street at Chez Vickie. Like I said, it's all individual taste. You have your favorites and I have mine. They don't have to be the same places, do they? It's just like people's tastes in boys. Some like the muscle types. Some like the femme types. Again, individual taste and preferences. In that immediate area there is Bordeaux, Chez Vickie, and Le Montecristo. I think people who wish to eat in that area should try all three of them and decide for themselves which ones they prefer instead of relying on us having a debate about it on the board. Some people will agree with you, some with me, some with neither of us, and some with both of us. Do you disagree? Quote

Some people will agree with you, some with me, some with neither of us, and some with both of us. Do you disagree? I see what you mean but in all honesty I do not know how you can compare the food at C.V. to the food at Bordeaux. I will go as far to say that I think C.V. is not even on a par with Cuisine Au Beurre...which is basically a place to go for a cheap fast and filling meal! I have a pretty good idea of who your friends are that agree with your assessment of C.V. most of with I doubt have ever had a meal in Pattaya for over 500 bht. Quote
Gaybutton Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 I have a pretty good idea of who your friends are that agree with your assessment of C.V. most of with I doubt have ever had a meal in Pattaya for over 500 bht. You're entitled to your opinion. Ok, let's see if you know who I ate with. I also want to know, whether they happen to be people you like or dislike, what difference that makes to whether a restaurant is good or not. Here was the group: Me ChrisUK RichLB PattayaMale Geezer Shebavon and one person who does not post on this or any board that I know of. Seven in all, plus 17 more people at other tables (I really did count how many people were eating there that night), all of whom seemed to be enjoying their dinner as much as we enjoyed ours. Is any of that a problem? If you want, next time that group goes to eat somewhere we'll let you know when and where. That will make spying much easier. Now, just what any of that has to do with the food at Chez Vickie goes beyond me. When you say you don't know how I can compare the food at Bordeaux with Chez Vickie, that's easy. I like both. I like Chez Vickie better. I also like Cuisine au Buerre, just down the street. Again, I don't know why we are having this debate. I still say let people try whatever restaurants they want and form their own opinions. I think most people are well aware that Bordeaux and Chez Vickie are not exactly the only restaurants in town. Ok, I've said my piece. You can have the last word. After that I think it's time to move on. Quote
Guest Hereforme2 Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 I love everyone equally!......You are right ! Time to move on! Quote
