Guest kjun12 Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 Does anyone know if Chez Vickie Restaurant is owned by the same person who had a restaurant by that same name in Bangkok? I used to enjoy going there for the good food, but it closed. Bad location I think did it in. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 From what I understand, yes, it is one and the same owner. Quote
Gaybutton Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 In Bangkok it was called Vickie L'Amour. It is definitely the same owner. Quote
Guest HeyGay Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 We went to Chez Vickie this week, not a patch on Bordereaux, the food was adequate, but all so very amateurish, for salad starter one of us had a big plate of it, all the others had small, no plate for Bread, I know this is how they eat it in fraance but not pattaya, and no soup spoons, the meat was very dry and over cood, as was the Mousse after, I had the spoon in my mouth and it was grabbed from me, saying no good and I had eaten 3 mouthfuls already, thinking it was burnt or to over cooked, to be presented with another one, just as bad, we wont be going back. Now if you want real value for money, last night we went to Olivier's in Jomtien Complex, amazing value and Buffet for soup and veggies, I don't know how they do it for 299 baht no wonder it was packed. Guest lvdkeyes Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 The last time I ate at Olivier I had pork chop that was overcooked and dry. The fried potatoes were greasy, burned and not crispy. This was about 2 years ago and I decided not to go back. Quote
Gaybutton Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 we wont be going back. My experience is precisely the opposite of yours. Chez Vickie is one of my favorite restaurants and the dishes I and my friends have tried have been outstanding. On the other hand, ever since the original owner of L'Olivier, Jackie, sold the restaurant, in my opinion it went downhill. I guess it's all a question of individual taste and whether you're lucky or unlucky the night you try. Obvious solution? Try these places and decide for yourself. Quote
Guest HeyGay Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 Of course many restaurants have bad days and I went there with an open mind, as one of our dinner guests had eaten there this week before and did not think much of it, but after other eateries around, you do tend to compare the meal I had defo was not upto standard. I MUST SAY THOUGH, THAT THE ALL NEW OLIVIER'S, IS NOW VERY GOOD FOOD AND VALUE AT 299 try it your see it is one of the best around for the price. Quote
Gaybutton Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 I MUST SAY THOUGH, THAT THE ALL NEW OLIVIER'S, IS NOW VERY GOOD FOOD AND VALUE AT 299 Are we actually going to debate which restaurant is better? You like L'Olivier. I like Chez Vickie. I think people ought to try them both and make their own decisions. Do you disagree? Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 I have heard good things about Chez Vickie and will try it before too long. Quote
Guest HeyGay Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 Yes of course I wanted to be so positive about Chez Vicky, but it just was not up to my standard on the night I was there, but as I said before, it may have been an off day, he did tell us he does shows there and dinner parties in drag, so may book for that one night. Most of the restaurants are good around and of course try them all, its part of the fun, I have been to so many over the last few weeks alone, but I have to put on a few kgs so its good for me. Alois www.aloispattaya.com/ next, I like it there, since Brunos has gone down hill and this restaurant has taken over, as far as I'm concerned, but others may disagree. Another couple of my favorite restaurants are :- amazing Lamb dishes. Cafe de Amis, Soi 9, Thappraya road, very nice atmosphere and food great. Cafe des Amis Elegant Dining Restaurant Quote
Gaybutton Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 Most of the restaurants are good around and of course try them all, its part of the fun RichLB and I still have yet to do what we've been planning to do for the better part of four months - go up and down all the sois along Jomtien Beach road. We've made discoveries we really like. I suppose the two main reasons we haven't done that yet are because 1. We tend to stick to the restaurants we already know and like, and 2. Lazy. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 I like both Alois and Au Bon Coin very much. Quote
Guest HeyGay Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 Well I walked past Chez Vickie Saturday night at 8.30pm on my way to yet another good restaurant, and it was empty, I hope its nothing we have said here, No surly not, I dont think we have the power to Influence anyome on this small web site. or do we, may be it was just late 9.00pm diners who had not arrived yet, get there quick with a party GB I think they need all the customers they can find. I hope they are not also under the curse of that corner site. Quote
Gaybutton Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 I don't think you or Chez Vickie have to worry. I happened to pass by Saturday night too. They were quite busy. Quote
Guest HeyGay Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 I'm glad about that, because I was out with friends at my favorite, The Alois Restaurant tonight, where we were sampling The FABULOUS KOBE STEAK, they were telling us they sell 5 a week @ 1500 baht each, just for the Steak, if you have not tried KOBE STEAK, its Japanese and it does literally melt in your mouth, The food here is outstanding I must say and try their 550 baht special Menu its always very good value. One of the guests I have never met before, but evidently is a big dinner connoisseur, he said he was reading some gay Thailand site and noticed the Chez Vicky,, was a little on and off with its food had any one been there, so as I slum down in my seat, as he has no idea I write on web sites 2 of the others said the food was not as good as over the road, but its ok, go and try it for yourself see what you think, he said ok I will, so I felt a bit better then knowing I have not started a trend for its demise, but you must speak as you find, if its genuine and not spiteful, I have no qualms about speaking its good or bad or in-between. www.aloispattaya.com/ Quote
Gaybutton Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 I felt a bit better then knowing I have not started a trend for its demise I get the impression you've convinced yourself that you have a lot more influence on things around here than you actually have. I doubt that Chez Vickie, or anywhere else for that matter, is going to succeed or fail based on anything you or I have to say. People will try different restaurants and they'll either like them or they won't. Simple as that. I haven't seen very many restaurants that are exactly full anyway these days. The only exception to that I've seen is Wednesday nights at Cherry's. Their buffet always draws a huge crowd. I haven't tried Alois yet. One of these days I'll get there. I tend to stick primarily with restaurants out here on "The Dark Side." For me, it's a trek getting to the restaurants most everyone else goes to since I live nowhere near them. I have plenty of restaurants I like right here, restaurants most people who read this board, including you, probably never heard of. When was the last time you, or anyone else reading this, ate at Ann's Garden, Sure Park, Manneke Pis, The Fisherman, or Ticino? Quote
Guest HeyGay Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 (edited) Considering majority of people do not know who I am, I hardly think anything I say would stop any one going to this restaurant, but I have noticed on another web site there have been people who have said they would not go again and most guys shop around for reviews, before they decide to go to a restaurant or accommodation, or bar, if they see a few negative ones, they just don't bother to go. Well I must say yes Alois was nearly full when I went there and also Oliver's was full, friends could not get a table in the RITZ CAFE, but they have very few tables and is always full, with its large portions and fresh English food. Alois has something for every one and they are one of the most proffessinal run restaurants around, with a full meal starting at 550 baht and so well cooked and afters to die for, I just love Banana fritters and Ice cream Wow give us the low down, on your local eating houses, I belong to a dinner club of friends I have known some 40 years and we are always looking for some where new to eat, there is about 18 of us and when we are all in the country, not often, its great fun dinner times, with lots of laughter added by good food and drinks more like an orgasm on its own.? Most people know exactly who you are and I am sure they judge for themselves the value of your comments. Now, as for the lowdown on Dark Side restaurants, I refer you to the following thread on Thai Visa, where you will find 39 pages of lowdown, the most recent being the last page.
