Gaybutton Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 @Gaybutton: if you are used to read these reviews you can get a lot out of it and if not, you can contact the writer directly to clear it. Perhaps, but I prefer reviews that don't require me to "read between the lines" to get an accurate idea of what I will encounter. When reviews directly contradict each other, it gets a little difficult to decide which one is the most credible. Sometimes I see reviews or ads that say certain venues were "Voted Number 1" or "Voted the Best." Voted by whom? To me, it's just like that old Anacin commercial that used to appear regularly on USA television. Some actor dressed to look like a doctor used to say, "All aspirin is not alike. Anacin has an extra added pain relieving ingredient . . ." Of course they never say what that added ingredient is. Ever look at the label? That "extra added pain relieving ingredient" is none other than caffeine. Great! I can pay ten times the price for Anacin or I can take a cheap aspirin and drink a cup of coffee along with it and have the same thing. I feel the same way about misleading hotel reviews. I like what Astrrro and lvdkeyes are saying about the Agoda reviews. If I'm looking for reviews, that's where I'll be doing my looking. Quote
Guest Kurt Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Hi blkinkorea31 I am also very eager to get news about Room Club because this was my favourite before I found out that this hotel is for sale I think in may it will be still in Lek's hand, but we intend to go in november 2010 (tomorrow we are heading to Chiang Mai ) hope to read from you again <regards Kurt Quote
Gaybutton Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 About a year ago a friend stayed at the Room Club. I visited the room and thought it was very nice. I don't know what they charge for the rooms, but if you're looking for a beach location, it's as good a place as any. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 I use Agoda to book hotels and the reviews are usually very close to what I encounter. I agree. I book most of my hotels in Asia through agoda because their rates are often the most competitive. Quote
Guest Jason105 Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 I agree. I book most of my hotels in Asia through agoda because their rates are often the most competitive. For my last trips to LOS I have used Agoda and been very satisfied, both with their response time and with their prices. They encourage you to write reviews after you have stayed at a hotel by offering you "points" (I'm not sure how that works, but that's another story) They are very clear that they want your "honest" opinion, so I think the reviews are most likely to be accurate. I know the ones I have submitted were after much thought and conversations with others who were at the same hotel while I was there, just to make sure that it was not "just me." all the best Quote

Guest kenrfc Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 About a year ago a friend stayed at the Room Club. I visited the room and thought it was very nice. I don't know what they charge for the rooms, but if you're looking for a beach location, it's as good a place as any. GUILTY! I have not stayed in Tui's Place maily because they had no web presence and no way to contact except by phone and that put me off. I like the web page and will give it more thought next time. For kurt, let me give you a rundown of my expieriences on Jomtien Beach (an area I really like to stay in). Rabbit Resort is really nice but increasingly pricey. I stayed there my first few times in Jomtien but I have to say it's now out of my price range, even in low season. It's gay "friendly" but not Gay and a bit away from the gay Beach area. Room Club is right next to Tui's. It's a small hotel (I think 8 rooms) and you'll pay over 2000B. It has been "for sale" for over 2 years now. I asked the owner about that and he said basically "everything in Thailand is for sale at the right price". The owner is a very friendly Dutch guy. Lek is his "wife" -a ladyboy who's gone "all the way" so to speak (and thus a "lady"). If you're going to stay at Room Club I strongly suggest springing for the (expensive) front rooms that have a nice bathtub out on the front balcony. You can have a lot of (ahem) "fun" with a friend out there. I have not stayed in the new Bondi but I would think that's also an good gay alternative for Jomtien. It's down near the 7-11. This last trip I stayed in a condo at View Talay 5 (right behind Avalon) that I got thru Asian Escapes. At the height of High Season I payed only 1,300 B a night. No service of course since it's not a hotel but that was no problem for me (if you stay 7 days they will clean once). Beach access was a short walk through a private gate. I understand they now have some rooms in VT7 but they're not listed on the website. My 2 cents worth... Quote
Guest ttom Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 The Rabbit Resort is definitely gay friendly. Has anyone checked into whether the Avalon is gay friendly? Despite the fact that it's right in the heart of the gay beach area, it seems to be primarily a family hotel. The Rabbit Resort is just fab and worth all the 5 stars. And the Rabbit is definitely gay friendly. I know both the owners now for many years, and yes, there are truly great hosts. Quote

Guest mlomker Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 I spent a week at Room Club in Oct `09. I liked it there..the owners and staff were great and the room was fine. I had one of the front-facing rooms but I think it was 3k baht/night...not inexpensive by any means. Breakfast and any other room service actually came from Tui's next door. I recently got back from another week in Pattaya and stayed at Cafe Royale for only 1700 baht. Seeing that the baht bus ride is 10 baht, it's hard to justify spending the extra 1300 to stay on the beach! Up to you, as they say... Quote
Guest Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 I find Trip Advisor reviews to be very useful. Most of the "fake" reviews are easy to spot. 5 stars for everything and only one review by the username is a good clue. Or the English Lawyer, who cannot write properly in his native language. Genuine tourists who show evidence of visiting several countries and giving balanced reviews are more reliable. Some have pictures of themselves, including the guy behind reception at an Istanbul hotel who had given his place 5 stars for everything. They removed the review after I complained. Quote

Our 'problem' is that we want to stay seaside For my researches on tripadvisor etc. it seems that the Rabbbit Resort is more a familiar hotel (they have a separate children- pool and its also too expensive ) If I can make a deal with the Avalon we will book there for our 3-weeks holiday B) <Kurt Quote

He said next time he comes to Pattaya, that's where he's going to stay. Thank you very much for your advice The Venue looks good and has a good rate! But my partner and I are looking forward to hear and see the ocean (we are more than 20 years together but still romantic ) greetings from ocean-less Switzerland <Kurt PS. Also the pool is a plus Quote
Gaybutton Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 my partner and I are looking forward to hear and see the ocean If that, plus a pool are your requirements, then there are only two gay area hotels in all of Pattaya that can offer what you want - The Rabbit Resort and the Avalon. If you don't have to be in the gay area or in a hotel designed to be gay-friendly, there are several other hotels. One of the newest and best would be the Centara Mirage in Naklua. Quote

Dear Gaybutton such a hotel drives me in a phobia and after tripadvisor it seems to be very children-friendly and very far from Dongtan-beach (although we are together, we like to be under same-feeling people ) So there is only the too-expensive Rabbit and the Avalon left from which I wait for an offer <thank you and regards <Kurt Quote
Gaybutton Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 Avalon left from which I wait for an offer <thank you and regards <Kurt I don't think Avalon is much less expensive, but it doesn't hurt to check. You're not going to get bargain prices where there are only two beachfront hotels in the gay beach area that also have swimming pools. Quote

Also the pool is a plus ok, now my 4 cents worth.... If you want A) "Gay Friendly" B) a pool C) Jomtien beach D) Romantic Then the answer is Rabbit Resort, esp for the "Romantic" part. I've never been to Avalon but it always seems a bit.... cold to me. If you really want a romantic time then I really , strongly, unequivocally, 100% reccomend Rabbit, even at the high prices (besides, Avalon isn't any cheaper). A suggestion. In the past when I booked there I checked their website for any deals then I checked other sites for discounts. If I found something cheaper I emailed Rabbit and asked if they'd match the price and they were always more than happy to do it so I could book with them direct. If you're going in low season Rabbit usually has some good deals. The first time I stayed there they had some kind of "Romantic Getaway" deal. When I arrived at the room the pillows were strewn with red orchids in a heart shaped pattern. Now how's that for romantic.... Quote

Gaybutton Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 Yes I have, but my partner is working very hard all year and so he wants to get pampered in holidays as much as possible I'm having some difficulty understanding you. You say you're looking for a romantic, gay-friendly hotel on the beach, a hotel with swimming pool. You say your partner worked hard all year and now wants to be pampered. We have been telling you that the Rabbit Resort is the ideal hotel for you. And yet you are reluctant to stay there because it's more expensive than many other places. Sometimes it is worth paying more to get what you want. I would think if your partner wants to pamper himself after working hard all year, spending a few extra baht to be in precisely the kind of hotel you want in precisely the location you want would be worth doing. For what you are looking for, you're not going to find a better deal in Pattaya than the Rabbit Resort for a very simple reason. No other hotel exists that meets all your criteria. Quote
