TotallyOz Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 All the reports I see when a man has sex with a 14,15,16, and even 17 year old boy the headline for the article is Child Molester. When a woman has sex with someone of that age, the title for the article is usually Teen Sex. Why are the terms changed? Why is one so looked at with disgust and the other one not? Even on the media today listening to the pundits it is almost even suggested that Woman to teen boy sex is not the same as Man to boy. Why? Why does society see such major difference? I am talking about the teacher in USA who turned herself in today for having sex with a 14 year old. The media does not portray her as bad as they would a man in the exact same situation. http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5hyZ4flbLE5saEiehiS07uTp0R0mQD9EC0AU80 I am not by any means suggesting that it is OK to have sex with a teen under 18. On the contrary, I would say that everyone should obey the law. However, I would like to know why the media portrays the two scenarios as so different? Quote

When a woman has sex with someone of that age, the title for the article is usually Teen Sex. Why are the terms changed? Why is one so looked at with disgust and the other one not? why do you even need to ask this question? what is the headline when a female teacher has sex with a 14,15,16, and even 17 year old girl? that may give you some idea of what is more acceptable to mainstream media - the male student with the older female teacher is just "sowing his wild oats" and is not "harmed" by the sex while the other cases are obvious child abuse by a person in a position of trust! I am not saying I agree with this, but the distinction is I think fairly obvious for the straight mainstream media! this was interestingly explored (with a twist) in Notes on a Scandal (imdb) (2006 Judi Dench, Cate Blanchet) and there is always the classic joke: A mother was called to the school and told her son was caught having sex with his Art teacher. The mother took the son home and told him he would be in trouble when his father got home but instead the father was proud and told the son he was the same at the son's age and was having sex with every woman or girl he could get his hands on. The father suggested the son should be out on his bike riding around telling all his friends of his exploits but the son said his teacher had told him not to ride his bike if his ass was still sore ... whether you get a laugh or not depends on who you tell it to! bkkguy Quote
Guest HeyGay Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 In the 90s Rupert Murdock who owns so many Newpapers around the World, found he sold 4 times more papers, when he used the word pedophile so he told all his Editors to use it as much as they can,, until he had a run in with Elton John and accused him of being one to be sued by Elton and had to pay him a million pounds, so Rupert told he Editors to only call Vicars and Priests an poor people, pedophiles in future. Its all a joke really because in Spain, for kids of 13 is the age of consent and can have sex, also Czech Republic, so your not a pedophile there, but if you go to other European countries its 16 if you go to some States in the USA its even 18 So it would seem all depends where you are, if you are a pedophile or not, to like 15 years or under, pederasts, 16 to 18, so its created by Govenments, did you know the age of consent was put up to 13 in 1840 so what was happening before that in the UK. In Thailand, Thais love young undrage sex, its normal here, Thailand AofC is actually 15 if you can prove you bought them nothing or gave no money, not even a drink.... so stick to 18 just to be sure, many 18 yo's look 15 so no reason to take chances here.....but its the Worlds Press that has created the atmosphere to stop westerners having 15 year olds, in the late 80s, starting with the Sky Bar above Mr Macs Hotel, where they did a 2 page spread on a naughty Vicar who use to run it,,,,,then they went to the Royal Garden Plaza, where preditor men use to pick up Boys on the 3rd floor, then the Sireen bar next to the old pier on Beach Road, fortunatly for me I love a lot of meat on my partners, but as long as you stick to the laws of the Country, your in at the time, you will not get into trouble I'm sure. http://www.avert.org...-of-consent.htm Quote
Guest TOQ Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 I am a little confused by this from your home country. Is it correct that if the age of consent in the US is 18, but you have sex with someone under that age in another country, even though their laws have a lower consent age, you can still be held liable for breaking US law? Am I correct on this or am I way off base. Just for the record my preference is 25 or so and up. john Quote
Guest Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Back on the original topic, the whole issue of how the press report an older woman having sex with a younger male is basically discrimination. Morally & legally there is no difference. Both are equally illegal, but the media choose to discriminate against the male. I am used to being discriminated against like this. In our country there is a "Music Of Black Origin (MOBO)" award ceremony. I'm damn sure there would have been one hell of a fuss had someone started off with a "MOWO" award event first. Also, it seems we must tolerate our muslim and christian friends criticizing homosexuality, yet if we start criticizing muslims, we risk being accused of racial hatred. Incidentally, I am quite content to stick to having sex with over 18s. I just expect female offenders to get treated exactly the same as males. Quote

However, the above post was not made by a US citizen and thus he does not abide by US laws. I think we often get confused and think the entire world has to follow the laws of the USA. That is not correct for the poster as he is not from USA. As an American I can't even purchase a Cuban cigar in Thailand. That is not true for others. I do believe you are right in that most western countries require their citizens to abide by their laws as well when traveling (a recent trend?). I don't know what those laws are to be honest. My post above dealt with nothing to do with sex from someone from outside their country. My post is about the discrepancy in which the media in the USA (and I assume most of the world) deal with sexual crimes when only males are involved and when it is male/female. I still stick by my presumption in that there is a double standard. Quote

Now what's really strange is that in New York the age of consent is 17, in New Jersey it's 16 but if a New Yorker travels abroad then it's violates USA law if he has sex with a 17 year old. For the record, I'm in a monogomous relationship with a 28 year old. Quote

Guest GaySacGuy Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Now what's really strange is that in New York the age of consent is 17, in New Jersey it's 16 There is a US federal statue that has nothing to do with individual states age of consent. If you are outside your home state, or outside the country, then sex with anyone under 18 is illegal by US federal law for US Citizens. So if that New Yorker above travels even to New Jersey, then he can only legally have sex with someone 18 or over, even if NJ's age of consent is 16. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 whether you get a laugh or not depends on who you tell it to! bkkguy Nice story. Reminds me of another from the macho Philippines. A father was determined that his son, Fernando, learn about the birds and the bees. He took him to a brothel where a young Filipina introduced him to sex in return for a modest fee. Fernando enjoyed himself so much, he asked his father if he could go again. "Sure thing, son," said the father. "Here's some money. Go right ahead." En route to the brothel, he passed his grandmother's house. "Why are you looking so happy?" asked his grandmother. Fernando then told her about his introduction to the brothel, the good time he'd had there and the money he'd been given for another visit. Seeing the money, the grandmother thought for a moment, smiled, and then beckoned Fernando into her modest house where he had another good time. On returning home, his father asked how he had got on. "This was way better than the first time," he related, and then told some of the things his grandmother had taught him. His father exploded. "Do you mean to tell me you actually had sex with your . . . your . . . your grandmother??! Don't you know that's immoral and illegal, and I'm going to thrash you for it?" "How come?" asked young Fernando. "Why is it that you get mad when I sleep with your mother, but I don't get mad when you sleep with mine?" Quote
