Guest letmetellu Posted September 23, 2006 Posted September 23, 2006 At last your be able to cum off the beach and for 250 baht grope your way round Pattayas answer to Babylon, this is what we have been waiting for and Im sure so have all those Thia guys who want a relationship with a farang who does not want to make it a business arrangement, but Im sure there will be buisness done in a town like Pattaya. Sansuk Sauna and Guesthouse to open in a month in Pattaya Pattaya will at last get an upmarket Sauna (Babylon-style) and Guesthouse. It is called "Sansuk" and the construction is well under way. Sticky Rice Webmag has interviewed Punya Ratana, the owner of well known Howards Guesthouse in Soi VC Pattaya (www.howardspattaya.com or www.howards-pattaya.net) who is also the owner and driving force behind Sansuk Sauna and Guesthouse What is the idea of Sansuk Sauna and Guesthouse? Well, I have a lot of Thai friends who are regular visitors to Howards bar, most of them have been in stable relationships with their Farangs for a long time and the 'I'm in a monogamous relationship' no longer applies, by mutual concent. Howards has many Farang guests whom the Thai young men really like on their 'boys nights out' and their partners fancy a lot of the freelance Thai young men who frequent Howards, so it's a happy combination. There is no take out fee for the boys, which means I am not responsible for them, but of course if I have a complaint from one of the punters about a particular boy, obviously I investigate, there are always two sides to every story. Most of my Thai friends slope off to visit one of the many saunas in Bangkok on a regular basis and I thought it was about time Pattaya fielded a bit of competition. After months of searching I found what I hope is the perfect site. The old le Colonial in Soi 11 Thappraya road mid-way between Pattaya and Jomtien was the final choice. Just far enough off the main road to be both secluded and easily assessable. It was a wonderful period piece, 'living in a bygone era' was the logo, a very accurate description, a rambling wooden guest house and a bizarre 'complete sauna experience' in the garden' all Disney World material. I originally thought I could upgrade the existing facilities, but the termite infested guesthouse and impractical layout of the rooms knocked that idea on the head, and having decided to start afresh on the accommodation it seemed logical to start afresh on the sauna and garden area. So work is well underway with the three storied sauna complex and gardens with outdoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi and steam room, with an interregnal steam room, sauna, gymnasium and recreational areas. The guesthouse is also to be a modern three storied building with open courtyard, and the intention is to pamper the guests with superior accommodation and service at reasonable prices, but I know that will take time to implement and there are going to be many headaches to start. I hope to make them all mine and not the clients! What does Sansuk mean? Roughly translated 'make you feel good' which is the whole aim of the new project. Since size matters, how big is the sauna? Well, we have the ground floor with lockers, Steamroom, Gym, Sauna, Showers and Toilets with a large recreation area with bar where snacks will be available, opening onto the garden where the pool, Jacuzzi, Sitting area and Outdoor Steamroom with Showers and Toilets will be. On the 2nd floor we will have a darkroom, 10 'rest rooms' two massage rooms, showers and toilets with an open air balcony to relax on. The 3rd floor will have open air 'restrooms' a more private relaxing area with bar showers and toilets. I think I have everyone's tastes well catered for. HOPEFULLY! When will it open? The sauna should be ready to open by the beginning of October. How would you describe the Guesthouse? The rooms will be comfortably large, with everything necessary to make it pleasant to stay in Sansuk. Fridge, TV, CD Player, ADSL, Air con, Tea and Coffee making facility, separate Bathroom with Shower, Sitting area which on the ground floor will be set round an open air Courtyard with Fountain and Shrubs where Breakfast will be available, with Bar and Sitting Areas. The 2nd and 3rd floors will also have an outside sitting area overlooking the central courtyard making the rooms light and airy. How many rooms will there be? We will have 19 rooms all together. How much is the night? Introductory offer will be 2.500 Baht per night which will include breakfast and free use of the sauna and garden area, but obviously once things have settled down I will have to review the pricing. How much will the entrance to the sauna complex be? It will be 250 Baht. When will it open? We expect the soft opening of the Guest House to take place in the middle of February 2007. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SANSUK SAUNA AND GUEST HOUSE (under construction) 391 / 49 Moo 10 Soi 11 Thappraya Road, Nongprue - Banglamung - Pattaya - Chonbury 20260 THAILAND Web www.sansukpattaya.com (under construction) Email info@sansukpattaya.com (under construction) Phone Sansuk Guesthouse +66 (0) 38-364-356 http://www.stickyrice.ws/?view=articles&country=th Phone Sansuk Sauna +66 (0) 38-364-355 Quote
Up2u Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 If the Thais have to pay 250 baht I'm afraid it's going to be a bunch of old farangs groping each other in the dark room. Gives me the shrivers just thinking about it. Quote

Perhaps it would be a good idea if someone staying at or near Howard's Hotel asks Punya if he has been advertising the sauna among the boys and then letting us know. We know about the sauna, but the big question is whether the boys know about it. Obviously the boys working at Howard's probably know. My guess is that a lot of boys do know about it. That's where his staff will come from, won't it? Quote

To be successful I believe he needs to attract young Thai men; after all farangs aren't going to go there to meet other farangs. I know few Thais that could afford a 250 baht admission. That price would be even higher than the Babylon in pricey Bangkok. I'm not an advocate of dual pricing but I think it makes good business sense to charge the Thais a lower price that they can afford. I would also follow the Babylon's lead and discourage commercial boys (which by the way is not Punya's policy at Howard's). Quote

The average bar boy can't afford 250 baht for admission and it would be a good idea for Punya to take that into consideration. Another point is that the average person who goes to a gay sauna isn't going there to pay for sex if it occurs in the sauna. So, money boys aren't going to do very well for their 250 baht investment unless they are there trying to hook up with a "farang" for another time and place. Of course, let's not assume that the only gay Thais who would frequent the sauna would necessarily be bar boys. Those of you familiar with Babylon already know that your usual encounter there won't be with a bar boy. I see no reason to assume it will be any different in Pattaya. The question is whether there are enough local gays in Pattaya to make it worthwhile for "farang" to go there. Me? Well, all I want is to sit in the steam . . . . . . . (yeah, right!) Quote

Are there enough non commercial, young Thai men who will frequent the sauna who aren't looking for money. Bangkok has many university students, office workers, young businessmen, etc, as well as, young Asian tourists, who visit Babylon. I hope Punya's new sauna can attract enough Thais. It sure would be great if it succeeds. Quote
Gaybutton Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 I'm sure it has a very good chance. Punya is no dummy. I doubt he would have invested a major amount of momey into a project like this without knowing what he is doing. We'll know soon enough. Quote
Guest berni Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 Give the new sauna a chance. it would be very confortable to have a BABYLON-COPY in Pattaya.Punya is experienced enough in business to know, that - if there are no nice thais inside - the farangs would come one time the have a look and than - go back to Bangkok.I am shure, that he will arrange a good place and i will visit the sauna as soon as it opens. Guest thrillbill8 Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 Unfortunately, it won't have the clientele like Babylon. It will be full of fat farang men with waists sizes of 40+ with nellie money boys running all over the place. Not much of a turn on. Quote

Guest catawampuscat Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 It is not going to be Babylon and such expectations are ridiculous.. It will be a gay spa and develop its own personality and clientel in time.. Really silly to overhype and the owner has his own concept and it will work for some and not for others just like any other establishment.. We are fortunate that over-hyping new places in Pattaya/Jomtien will decrease markedly in the future and the screaming promotionalism will end forever.. I have a dream.. Quote
