The TRUTH about Sunee

Pattaya is a dump; a dumping ground for men looking for women or other men and sex. It must be one of the sleaziest cities on earth. How it could ever become a family oriented playground is beyond me. Better for a family to visit the local sewerage treatment plant then bath in the waters here. The streets and sidewalks are filthy with dog shit, cigarettes butts and garbage. Trying to cross a street is nothing but assisted suicide. The infrastructure is falling apart if it even exists. I could go on but you all know this.

There is only one reason to visit or stay here and it revolves around sex in some form. Yes, for the gay guy it is the best of the best, why else would I come here?

I dunno, while there might be some truth in what Matt says, I would have thought that by trying to clean up areas like Sunee and Boystown you would end up driving the working boys and girls onto the streets, beach, shopping centres and damn near anywhere that tourists congregate. This would have a serious impact on the family resort the powers that be are trying to create.

Man, you sure must be staying in a different Pattaya than the one I live in. As to other reasons for visiting Pattaya, I refer you to my previous post. You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but I think you'd be hard pressed to support your assertion.

I do agree with you, RichLB, Pattaya is nothing like I ever went to with my family as a youth!! And I do wish there were places like Pattaya in my youth and in my younger years.

 

No, I think we are staying in the same place but perceive it in different ways. My travels are limited but Pattaya is on the bottom of my list as family oriented. I always thought Tijuana, Mexico was at the bottom but Pattaya is much lower. Although I would never again go to TJ I still have Pattaya at the top. Well, at least for now.

 

Hard pressed to support my assertions? Every time I walk on the streets my assertions are confirmed, every step, every breath, every hearbeat. But I do love it.

I have to agree with you, Rich.

 

Pattaya is multi-faceted. Yes, you have your sleaze neighborhoods both straight and gay. Yet you do have rather nice neighborhoods where the Euro and Asian money is flowing. Phratumnak Hill, South Jomtien, Na-Jomtien come to mind. Pattaya Beach from North Pattaya though Walking Street will probably see many changes, and just like gentrification reshaped many cities in the US, many of the more seedy neighborhoods along the beach may well become hotels and shopping malls.

 

That is just progress.

 

Overall, I would say this town is big enough to handle both families and the sleazy, as well as those sleazy families I constantly encounter..

Firstly, my apologies to RichLB. I overstated my case about Pattaya being sleazy. Secondly, thanks to shebavon for your balanced analysis of Pattaya as multi-faceted.

The gentrification of neighborhoods in US cities does ring a bell with me. The Liberty Bell actually! Years ago in the City of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia, PA, there was a blighted area known as Society Hill. Over the years it changed into a charming and most desireable place to live. Oddly, at the same time, the main street, Market Street, the pride of any major city turned sleazy.
