As was indicated many times before the best solution of this dilemma is resignation of Gaybutton from his position of moderator.

First off, let me lend some support to GB's view of Thai libel laws. As I understand it, truth is no defense to such a charge. All that has to be determined is that the libelous statement had the intent of harming another person or business. Even the Bangkok Post fell victim to this law when they were held responsible for the statements of one of their reporters. Given the law and that case, I can sure see GB's position and would make the same decision as he.

And I shudder at the prospect of GB's resignation as moderator. I most probably disagree with him as often as anyone else and wish he would respond with a more velvet touch, but hey, that's him. I look at the other boards and see the value of good moderation. One of them seems unable to sustain any dialogue on any subject without it desolving into adolescent retorts. Another is so nicey nice I think diabetics are advised not to read it. Another is merely a cut and paste of newspaper articles. If GB's moderation here has prevented any of that, I think we owe him applause. And, by the way, I don't recall anyone, other than in the quoted post, suggesting that resignation.

The question is whether this message board is about Gaybutton or Gay Thailand (pun intended).

Lord Voldemar, I think you have the question wrong. The question to me is why does a newbie with a total of 5 posts since June of last year think he has the right to either tell the posters here what has been suggested (by others, obviously) over the years or to tell a moderator that he ought to take a hike. The answer, at least to me, is that you really have no history or standing here and you ought to pull up stakes and camp elsewhere.

Not only it would stop many years of abuse and drastically improve the quality of the board, it would allow Gaybutton to live happily thereafter and deal with his own paranoya privately rather than subjecting the world to his mental spasms that in reality should be strictly between him and his shrink

Not having to put up with reading this sort of personal attack is one of the main reasons I enjoy this Board. I am in complete agreement with Bob and RichLB. Don't like the way this Board is moderated, voldemar? Then why are you even looking at it?

Like Bob, I assume voldemar takes his name from the character in the Harry Potter series. Interesting quote from a J K Rowling interview with the BBC in 2000 in which she fleshes out Voldemort as a self-hating bully -

Well I think it is often the case that the biggest bullies take what they know to be their own defects, as they see it, and they put them right on someone else and then they try and destroy the other and that's what Voldemort does.

To clarify my point, I was not suggesting naming names but an explanation of what was going on in Sunee plaza. The last thing I would want is GB or anyone going to jail for something posted on the board. If that happened who would I go to dinner with ?

But certainly explaining what is going on (without any name), should not be a problem should it?

You didn't need to clarify for me. I knew what you meant.

The answer to your question is: No, it SHOULD not be a problem. However, everyone is walking on pins and needles right now as many things have happened recently in Pattaya and it is hard to really digest the full scope of things.

Let me just say that many feel that the boards are doing a disservice to the residents of the area right now and most are doing more moderation and watching things closely. This is to ensure that things don't get out of hand.

GB, TLP and I are all watching the board closely and trying to make sure that our board is not used for the wrong reason.

I know the owners of Ting Tong and Pattaya Passion and I know they both want the best for the community. I have not met Elephant Spike but know that he also wants to make sure that tempers are cooled off for the benefit of the community. I know the owner of Baht-Stop but have never had any personal conversations with him about board policies as he prefers to remain anonymous. The owner of Sunee Plaza.info and Nicky's Gay Pattaya have chosen to take their boards offline. All of these boards are run by good men with good intentions. None of us want to do harm to the community or allow harm to be done to someone because of our actions. Thus, we are trying our best to deal with a very odd situation. Those really in the know are keeping very quite about things and everyone else is really only speculating.

A popular ladyboy bar on an otherwise straight soi was closed the other night with a police lock on the front door. Not sure what's up with that.

Gaybutton can be hard to take at times. He is very opinionated and often gets into debates with members and they end up getting upset by him as his words are often harsh. However, he is the best moderator in all the Thailand boards. He is what he is. You may not like his style but he is good at what he does. He is great for the board and for all of Gay Thailand. He is always willing to help someone with advice and tries to make everyone feel welcome in Pattaya. He is also a wealth of information. He does not have the passive style of moderators from other boards but that is his choice. It is also his choice when he chooses to leave moderating this board. I have never asked him to resign and I don't see any scenario where that will happen. I don't always like the things he says or the way he says them. But, first and foremost, he is a friend. I have very few real friends in this world and if anyone thinks I would just throw him off the board or ask him to resign because he is abrasive, you don't know me very well. I am loyal to a fault. He is always welcome on this board!

I can't begin to imagine why. Although, sometimes when I talk to myself I get angry over what I say. Only a few days ago I slapped myself in the face. Oh well, nothing's changed. I think I've mentioned before that when I was a kid I had an imaginary friend. I had to. Nobody else liked me. But he also didn't like me. At least he was gay. He was my first experience . . .

He is always welcome on this board!

Whew! For a while there I was worried . . .

If that happened who would I go to dinner with ?

Geezer?

You also could visit me at the Bangkok Hilton. We could share some rotten rice along with a little cockroach fazoo. They're all out of wine, but perhaps they could spare a couple cups of some nice contaminated water.

Come to think of it, that's what I'm having tonight. Valentine's Day, you know . . .

When one is a teen, one often is upset as hell when one of your friends says something nasty to you; however, when you're over 50, things seem to reverse and good friends are expected to razz the hell out of each other (if your friends are only being polite to you, you know something's wrong!).

Based on GT's descriptive comments about GB, it's obvious they're very good friends. On the other hand, GB, I wouldn't let him give your eulogy....hehehehe.

There's gonna be a eulogy?!?!? With my luck, Jomtien will be the speaker . . .

Why, I am cut to the quick that you would say such a thing!

I do not go around saying bad things about people behind their back. (I guess you being dead would count as 'behind your back')

Somehow i missed the Gossip Gene most gay men seem to have. It makes me uncomfortable and goes to partially explaining why, after 6 years here, I pretty much talk to the same 4 farang.

So have no fear! Any bad things I have to say to you will go to your face! I would eulogize you with only good things.

Of course, you'll have to hang on to life for maybe another 8 or so years to give me time to think....... ;)

The same is often said about me. However, I am a southern gentleman. I usually only say harsh things to my friends. We southerners don't like to air our pubic opinions. We keep them inside quietly until they explode. :)

I want to wish GB Happy VD...(Valentine's Day)

I am jealous.

It also explains why you are so much fun to talk to.

And, I could think of no one better to give my eulogy. Although, I have told my family I want them to chop some wood on my property, build a high bon fire, put me at the top, light it and dance around celebrating my life with a little moonshine, some 7-Up cake (my favorite) and play me some Elvis. Then, move the hell on with life. Not sure they will actually come through with my plan or not but I do hope no big deal is made of it.

While I don't subscribe to this gag order business and personally feel that any establishment that procures and/or promotes sex with minors should be driven out of business by any means possible, and their supporters identified and ostracised, can't you guys simply PM or e-mail one another to get off your chest whatever it is that is so important currently? Seems to me a far more effective way than posting on an impersonal open board. Think of all the juicy, gory details that you can share in your tete-a-tete...without subjecting a third party to any legal ramifications or indeed, personal safety issues (this is Pattaya after all and, in my opinion, GB has been far too open with his identity).

It has nothing to do with that at all and there is no gag order. Simply people being responsible. All will become clear when the time is right.

Can you do that in a Hercule Poirot accent? Madame and monsieur, gather in the drawing room in twenty minutes where all will be revealed.

I hope so because I still don't know just what the hell is going on. Why is the Sunee Plaza web site offline? Why was the street party for Sunee Plaza canceled? The Krazy Dragon web site tells us that the go-go boy, Mon, who worked there is dead. Nothing is stated about what happened to him. Is his death connected to this intrigue? If foul play was involved, why is there nothing about it in the media?

There has to be more to what's going on than even I have been told, personally, by PM, and by Email. So far I've heard three totally different versions of the "real" story, which means I don't know what the real story actually is. It also means that I'm either being subjected to the rumor mill by people who in reality are just as clueless about all this as I am or it means that I'm being deliberately lied to. I don't see what other possibilities there could be.

As Oogleman says, there is no gag order, at least not on this web site. Nothing has changed about what constitutes acceptable posts here, but everyone, including me, feels that we're being kept in the dark about something. I don't necessarily feel that we all have to be told what just now, but I'd like to know why. If someone's life is in danger, I can understand, but if not, then why all this mystery? I've seen plenty of bizarre goings on in Pattaya over the years, but this one takes the cake. Once this whole thing is finally revealed, it better be good.

I do agree with the principle of shutting offending bars down.

However:

1 It is not difficult to establish which bars are the worst offenders. Some of these have apparently been raided by the law enforcement agencies, yet remain open. Considering that, a few more posts here aren't going to make much difference.

Or do you have some idea to make things happen?

Bear in mind if some "bad bar" is identified, maybe 90% of us would probably avoid it and the other 10% would go straight there on their next trip.

2 Why would a non=profit making, or at best modest profit making board want to risk an expensive libel case?

.............some 7-Up cake (my favorite)

For one who is from the old country and not versed in colonial eating habits, what on earth is a 7-Up cake. It sounds delicious!.

Taking the heat out of the kitchen for a mo, presumably a play on words - cup cake / 7up cake so just an ordinary cup cake with some fizzy lemonade.

I like Sunee quite a bit. About 100 times better than Boyztown IMO.

But I don't like being kept in the dark either and don't want tgo get caught up in a police raid even though I'm doing nothing wrong and just drinking abeer.

So I'll keep away for a while until it's clearer to me whats going on..

No. Not an ordinary cupcake with fizzy lemonade. Try Google.

Far from just an ordinary cupcake with fizzy lemonade.

7-Up Bundt Cake

* 3/4 cup carbonated lemon-lime beverage

LEMON GLAZE

* 2/3 cup powdered sugar

* 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Directions

Cream butter and sugar together for 20 minutes.

Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating after each addition.

Add flour and lemon extract.

Fold in 7-Up.

Pour into well-greased 12-cup Bundt pan or tube pan.

Bake at 325 degrees for 1 to 1 1/4 hours.

Make Lemon Glaze- mix powdered sugar and lemon juice together.

When cake is cooled, dribble with Lemon Glaze.
