Guest run26mile Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 I'm considering staying at lebua ( http://www.lebua.com ). Am I right that it is only a 5 minute walk from the Tawan Bar? How far exactly is it? Any experiences with taking guys back for a night? I'm traveling alone but will book for two people. I frankly don't care about a stare or two but is there any really negative experiences about gay joiners at lebua? Any other 5 star hotel recommendations? Thanks. Quote
firecat69 Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 15 minute walk more likely no idea on joiners but big place probably no problem Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 15 minute walk more likely no idea on joiners but big place probably no problem At least 15 minutes, plus you have to cross the difficult Chongnonsri intersection! You'll have horrendous traffic on Silom during rush hours if you are here during the rainy season. Why not stay nearer the 'action'? Since you stress 5-star, stay at Le Meridien. It's a great hotel, perfect location (Tawan is just across the road), great bar and coffee shop, and no problems with joiners (or none that I have heard of). I note Lebua states on its website that it is "the finest all-suite hotel in Bangkok." As far as I am aware, there are very few all-suite hotels in the city (Banyan Tree, Evergreen - can't think of others), and so the description, whilst strictly speaking accurate, may be somewhat more enticing than reality. If you are not fussy about the suite part, Le Meridien's rates are, I believe, roughly comparable. Quote
Guest run26mile Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 This is my first time in Bangkok so please excuse all of the questions. 1. Is it possible to take a cab rather than walk? 2. I'll be there from March 20 to March 27. 3. I like the idea of a suite because it is 66 sq meters rather than the 30 or 35 sq meters for most rooms. I am quoted just under 3500 baht for a suite at Lebua. I will use the suite for muscle worship/flexing, which requires more room than just a bed. I like guys to pump up with pushups, etc. 4. Lebua also has a balcony so I can take nice pictures of guys posing with the city in the background. Are there other hotels that you suggest other than Le Meridian that are near the action? What is important is that it is clean, modern, larger room, near Tawan and gay friendly. Thanks! Quote

During rush hour, probably 30. 2. Should be no problem with rain at that time. 3. I don't think you'll find 66 sq. meters for that price in a 5 star hotel nearer the action. The nearest is probably the 60 sq. meter Grand Rooms at the Dusit Thani which cost Bt. 6,000++ on its website. Quote
Guest run26mile Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Thanks for the reply. How close is the Dusit Thani from Tawan. I think it's close to Lumpini park, which has some appeal to me. And I've seen a lot of good comments on the Dusit. I'll see if I can bargain with dusit to match lebua's pricing on the 66m. I find contacting the hotel directly usually results in better pricing. fedssocr Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Dusit Thani is directly across the street from Lumpini Park. From there to Tawan is probably a 15 minute walk if you walk fast, particularly when the night bazaar is blocking all of the sidewalks. You may also want to consider a place like the Siri Sathorn or one of the other serviced apartments in that general neighborhood. It's on a relatively quiet street about 10 minutes walk from Silom. So, probably 20-25 minutes walk to Tawan. You get a good amount of space and your own full kitchen, etc. But I think they are not 60+ sq m. And cost is in the 3000++ region for their least expensive room. Lebua suites are probably more luxurious. I have read that Lebua is having a big sale on their rooms these days and your post bears that out. Quote

If you walk along Rama 4 and then onto the opposite side of Suriwong till you get to the Le Meridien and Tawana Ramada hotels, you'll be at Tawan and have missed most of the street stalls. The only real advantage of the Dusit is it is closer to Lumphini Park and to the other bars, should you wish to visit them. But I have a feeling (just that - no actual experience) that joiners may be more of a problem at the Dusit. Quote
Guest run26mile Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 First, thanks for all of your guidance. Second, le meridian doesn't offer competitive rates (compared to lebua) on suites although the dusit thani does for a suite. So, I'll probably go with labua because it looks more luxurious than dusit, is slightly closer to tawan bar, and doesn't have issues with joiners. Does that sound right? Any other input/advice before I book the room? Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Given your preferences, go with the Lebua. If you happen to encounter any traffic problems, you can always walk over to Surasak Skytrain station on Sathorn to link you in to the fast public transport systems. Quote
