Guest taylorsquare Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Haven't been to Jomtien complex for a long time. Decided to go there yesterday, and after sitting in a baht bus for over 35 minutes, bumper TO bumper all the way,i decided to get off early and walk. Well noticed that the PANTHER PUB is now closed and for lease. Also the MONTY BAR no longer has Monty,it seems he has retired back to Australia. The Pattaya Storage shop is no longer there. My favourite restaurant, ANTZ,is still there. Other than that,I couldn't see any real change, although I think DUO massage may have changed its name. Quote
Gaybutton Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 I think DUO massage may have changed its name. You are probably thinking of the new spa-massage-restaurant that just opened across from Monty's. I haven't been in there yet and the name escapes me, but Duo is still where it always was and is open. Quote
Guest richsilver Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 What about the new Italian restaurant next to Pagoda? The new French restaurant, L'Arc? The new British one, Cafe Ritz? The new sauna, Black Cat? The new bar Lubov's Boys? The new bar Ganymede? The new gay-owned flower shop? The new real estate place next to Monty's? The new location of Dolce Vita? The new location of the long-standing pizzeria? The expanded Dick's Cafe? The closing of Rock Hard Boys? The closing of the sales office next to the Venue? I'm sure I missed a few. Quote
Guest RichLB Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 I don't know what time period you are referencing when you talk about changes, but in the last year there have been a lot of new things in the Jomtien Complex zone. A new host bar and hotel called Ganymede has opened and the owner has big plans for further expansion. Lub'ov Boys (sic) is also new and gaining popularity. There is now a new combination restaurant/massage (believe that combination or not) across the street from Monty's. And there are several new restaurants, too. That big pretty much deserted Italian place has now moved to a very popular spot on the same street but on Thappraya. It's no longer being ignored by diners and is quite popular. There's another Italian restaurant that's new in the complex that is inexpensive, but still more upscale with (I'm told) a good wine list. And there is a new French Restaurant called the Arc de Triumph across the street from Aquarius - although if you have a normal appetite you might want to relate to their entrees as appetizers. Zsa Zsa, which had been closed for some time, is now reopened so maybe that qualifies as new. And, as you mentioned Antz, you might be interested to know that they have a nice singer on a keyboard who offers background music while dining (it's not even as annoying as most of the places which ply you with music are). Oh, and speaking of music in bars, another new venue is the place next door to Aquarius (I don't remember the name) which offers semi opera music from two very talented singers (although I think they don't perform on one or two nights a week). There are also a couple other host bars clustered around Question Mark that are new. In short, it seems to me Jomtien Complex area has undergone a renaissance and is bursting with new options. I'd suggest making another journey down here - if you can brave that infernal road construction along Thappraya. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 I live in Jomtien and, although, the road construction (or lack of) is annoying, it is manageable. I wouldn't let it deter anyone from venturing to Jomtien. Quote
Guest Astrrro Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 The Pattaya Storage shop is no longer there. Moved to a soi off Thepprasit. Quote
Guest taylorsquare Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Yes,DUO MASSAGE is still there, even though I am a bit nervous having read not so good reviews on this place on forums over the years,so Im hesitant to try it. Has anyone been here,Im sure its ok,but memories come back to me about reviews of this place, but the only way to know is to try it myself. I always like the TMBI(Thai Blind massage)but they were fully booked so I had to make a 24 hr booking in advance for the masseur I wanted.(1 hour oil massage.)250baht. Seems to be a very lot of European/Russian? tourists lining up in the TMBI,some even "pushing" in the line at the front counter to be first. I dont know why,a massage is just a massage,no need to fight over it. But they are extremely busy with customers lining up outside.Mostly /all european. I still believe ANTZ restaurant in Jomtiem Complex is good value, mushroom soup with 2 breads 50 baht. I like the AQUARIOUS RESTAURANT but my opinion is they give you small helpings. The bar opposite MONTYS BAR, (which no longer has the original owner)is called BLACK CAT I believe. It looks like a bar but apparently is a massage place. I will eventually try it. Jomtiem Complex is always been more fun for me than Sunee or Boystown. Not that disapointed PANTHER PUB ,which was next to the VENUE,has closed as I wasnt a big fan, apart from playing pool there it was just another bar. I will probaly check out the shows at the Venue tonight. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Da Claudio (what used to be Hot Stone Grill) is worth a try. Their pasta promotion is Salad bar (small), Soup, Spaghetti Bolognese or Carbonara and Ice cream for 259 baht is worth it. The waiter (Oy or Oil, I think is his name) is soooo gay and funny and cute, he alone is worth the visit. Quote
Gaybutton Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Yes,DUO MASSAGE is still there, even though I am a bit nervous having read not so good reviews on this place on forums over the years,so Im hesitant to try it. You can't really go by what others tell you. You have to try these places and decide for yourself. However, for what it's worth, only last month a friend of mine tried Duo and said he really enjoyed it. Quote
Guest taylorsquare Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Actually I went past there today, but the guys outside seemed bored and disinterested and i didnt have the self confidence to talk to them and still im hesitant so i kept walking. On another matter with Jomtiem is that i saw a bus pickup sign for CENTRAL PLAZA ? Is this a new shopping centre ? Quote
Guest taylorsquare Posted January 22, 2010 Posted January 22, 2010 Well, I went into Jomtiem today and went into the BLACK CAT CAFE ,just opposite the old/new MONTYS BAR in Jomtiem complex. They have massage/sauna ETC. qUITE NICE LOOKING GUYS ,although no beefy muscular types. massage 300 baht-1 hour spa/jacuzzi with boy-490 baht-1 hour spa/jacuzzi plus massage 690 b body scrub 450 baht Obviously this does not include tip for the guy. Apparently they also have rooms to rent. Quote
Guest taylorsquare Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 I went to DERBY MANS CLUB today, next door to DICKS CAFE in the jomtiem complex. Quite attractive guys, all i think tops/versatile,no ladyboy types which is good. Very goodlooking young men. beer was 100baht,oil massage is 500 baht,1 hour, min tip 800 baht. I offed a boy/Masseur back to my room,400 baht,BUT must be only for 1 hour according to mamasan. Well he didnt disapoint. It seems quite busy there, even though the prices are steep, seems if you have the merchandise they will spend ! Quote
Guest taylorsquare Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 This post is for benefit of those not in Thailand, wENT to Jomtiem Complex last night, went into LUBOV BOYS ,thats the newish bar that opened last year in JUly,owned by Russian. Well i noted I never see any customers in here and i found out why,at 150 baht a drink its far too expensive when you can get the same cocktail from the pink van for 70 baht. Quote
Guest shebavon Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Taylor said "I like the AQUARIOUS RESTAURANT but my opinion is they give you small helpings" Taylor, I may have had problems with the decline in service there, but I have never walked away hungry from an Aquarius dinner. And I have a pretty big appetite as my poompooey suggests. 3 good size courses for about 300 baht. If you really want to see skimpy portions, walk across the street to the new French place. Now they give skimpy portions. Quote
Guest shebavon Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Actually I went past there today, but the guys outside seemed bored and disinterested and i didnt have the self confidence to talk to them and still im hesitant so i kept walking. On another matter with Jomtiem is that i saw a bus pickup sign for CENTRAL PLAZA ? Is this a new shopping centre ? Central is a big shopping mall just south of Pattaya Klaang with entrances on both Second and Beach roads. Has a Central department store, restaurants and stores galore, as well as great movie theater and loud bowling alley. Very cruisy too. Quote
Guest taylorsquare Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Shebavon,I do think the service was excellent in Aquarious however the portions could of been a bit more at the time I had went. I think the price was a bit more expensive at that time, and if its now 300 b for a 3 course meal,I will certainly go back. I often wonder why there is no major supermarket in Jomtiem, what a roaring trade they would do. Quote
Gaybutton Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 I often wonder why there is no major supermarket in Jomtiem, what a roaring trade they would do. There are also no service stations. If you drive and need fuel, the closest is on Thepprasit Road, near Sukhumvit. That big building still under construction, next to The Venue, is supposed to get a grocery store, but you never know. In the meantime, Food Mart, just past Thepprasit Road, heading into town, is a pretty good grocery store. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 I talked to the owner of Villa Market some time ago about him opening a store in Jomtien. He said he and his son would look into it, but nothing has happened yet. I think the area would be a gold mine for a good supermarket. Quote
Gaybutton Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 I think the area would be a gold mine for a good supermarket. As an aside, "The Dark Side" would also be an excellent area for a good supermarket. That controversial Lotus that opened out here does a thriving business, but so many people are moving into this area that a much better supermarket would do quite well. Quote
mahjongguy Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 That big building still under construction, next to The Venue, is supposed to get a grocery store, but you never know.I wish it were still under construction, but all activity there stopped a year ago. Rumor at the time was that it would be a Tops. Good enough, though I'd prefer a branch of Friendship Market. In the meantime, Food Mart, just past Thepprasit Road, heading into town, is a pretty good grocery store. Ack! Green meat! Quote
Guest kotter Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 As a further aside I think very very soon, ( maybe by the end of the month) you may see people moving in there, under the small 'stalls' situation! As an aside, "The Dark Side" would also be an excellent area for a good supermarket. That controversial Lotus that opened out here does a thriving business, but so many people are moving into this area that a much better supermarket would do quite well. Quote
Guest RichLB Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 Not sure what's going on in that big white elephant in Jomtien, but this morning workmen were tearing out a wall on the ground level and doing something on the second floor. Maybe something will be moving in there eventually. It's the first activity I've seen there in years. Quote
Guest TheVenue Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 Moved to a soi off Thepprasit. The Venue now Occupies the former Storage Office as Rehearsal Studio and Costume Store. Quote
