Guest fountainhall Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Some advance information about the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra's new Great Artists Series which has been on the go since 2007. The 2010 Series starts with return visits by virtuoso violinist Sarah Chang and conductor Giordano Bellincampi who gave a stunning account of the Brahms concerto last summer. On March 31st, Chang plays the Bruch 1st Violin Concerto. Other works are Rossini's Gazza Ladra (Thieving Magpie) overture and Brahms First Symphony. April 27 sees a unique performance by probably the finest cellist of our day, Yo Yo Ma, this time with his Silk Road Ensemble. This is not a classical concert. Ma formed the ensemble ten years ago. It features about 15 musicians from Silk Road countries giving performances that explore the relationship between tradition and innovation in music from the East and West. More information about the ensemble at - http://www.silkroadproject.org/ I don't have ticket prices, but tickets will soon be on sale at Thai Ticket Major outlets and www.thaiticketmajor.com Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 Isn't it a shame we don't get any of this kind of culture in Pattaya? The Royal Cliff has hosted two "Night at the Opera" events that I know of in the past 5 years. Both seemed to be well attended. I wonder why there is not more of this here. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 I wonder why there is not more of this here Two reasons immediately come to mind. A proper concert venue is a major issue with artists of this calibre. When you are used to playing in the best concert halls in the world, you need a hall that is acoustically more than good and has proper facilities for performers. Cost is the second. I hate to think how much 'star' artists like Chang and Ma cost because demand for their performances around the world is so high. But if there is a concert promoter living in Pattaya, I reckon it would not be difficult to organise some good concerts with lesser 'name' artists. Quote
