Guest Martelly
Does anyone know what the over stay fine is now?
Guest wowpow
No changes have been announced as far as I know and it is not that long since it was increased. 1st day Zero 2nd day 1000 baht thereafter 500 baht a day to a maximum of 20,000 baht. It is strongly advised not to risk overstay as you finish up in jail and deported. see www.thaivisa.com
Gaybutton
On a related subject, those who have to report their address every ninety days - if you are late for that, the fine is 2000 baht.

TotallyOz
Thanks for the info. Im only going to be 3 days over. Should i get a 2 week exstension or should i just pay the fine. My suggestion is to get the extension. It is not a big deal to do and may save you problems in the future.

Get the extension. It is 1900 Baht for 15 days. If you ARE going to overstay it gives you flexibility in case the 3 days turns into more - the 3 days are going to cost you 1500 Baht anyway and you could end up on the black list for overstaying without permission. Agreed. The other downside of overstaying is if you get stopped by the police, for whatever reason, without a valid visa, it is likely to be a trip to the cells, rather than an overstay fine. Gaybutton
I also agree. Something you may not know, because this is a relatively recent change, is that if you overstay, they will place a stamp in your passport showing that you overstayed. Also, if for any reason you are stopped by the police and they check your passport, you will be arrested, charged with immigration violations, jailed, and prosecuted. Don't forget, if you intentionally overstay without getting a legal extension, then you have intentionally committed a crime in Thailand. Not a good idea. For the 1900 baht it will cost to keep yourself legal, it's money well spent.
