Guest letmetellu Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Its all getting better Come to Thailand its like it use to be for the first time in Years. I dont know about Military Coup with some timid Americans canceling there flights to the Land of Smiles as they do at the first sign of a hiccup apart from the real hardy Gays, its such a Party atmosphere here in Thailand Now, everyone is celebrating the fact that may be at last the tentacles of power are not going to have a negative effect on business. I was with two Gay business owner friends of Mr. T of Panorama and Funny Boys Bar the most comfortable Go Go Bar in Boys Town and Mr. H of the wonderful Symphony Restaurant last night, but Mr. T.has grave thoughts of all the negative things that have been happening with tourism here, now may be able to get back on top at last, Sars< Tsunami , Bird flu, Land deals, House sales, Toxins closure later and later on Entertainment businesses, as though he does not want Tourists, this can only if they play there cards right with new elections next year new Prime Minister and a couple of weeks, most wonderful thing to happen to Thailand in years. Yes all the Bars and Gay restaurants are doing well Manhattans tonight was jumping as long as you don't GO wild ordering the most expensive Steak or bottle of Wine, you can keep the bill down but it is really turning into the who's who of Thailand, I saw The big Boss of the Pinnacle Hoetel there tonight. They are in the restaurant business and will always have critics. Freddy from Bruno's was in last night, and said everything was "spot on"! The New York Steakhouse manager Bangkok was there with the manager of the Pinnacle in Bangkok. Both were very impressed. I believe they are on track, he said, and it will take a month or so to work out the kinks, par for the course in this business. After talking with my dear friend Tom, who is running Manhattans and conveying a few concerns I heard here and from others, he has answered them very fairly I think below. The credit card machine, issue is out of our control. In Thailand, if you are a new business, the banks will not give you a credit card machine until you have been in operation for at least a month. I could have applied a year ago, and it would not matter. The bank starts counting days from your first day of business, Secondly, the wine list is an experiment in progress. Many wines are on the list, and we will determine the rate of sales for each as we go along, and stock the best sellers in larger amounts. Regarding the format of the wine list. It is the format I use in America and I intend to continue to use it! We are an American restaurant and I will not reformat my list because it is MY LIST, and a reflection of my taste and my style. If the customer has questions regarding the origins of the International wines, I am available to answer his questions. it is a good way also to chat to people about wine and anything else they want to know about the restaurant. . Most of the wines on the International list are highly recognized labels and not a mystery to figure out. One can guess that Baron Philippe Rothschild is French, along with Louis Latour and Barton & Guestier!! One can also guess that Wolf Blass, Penfold's, and Lindeman"s are Australian. I will add the countries of origin to the listings with the next printing to help the customers along, You may note I do not do "one bottle" wine stocks. Comments about my wine list from the New York Steakhouse manager, and Bruno's Freddy were that the list was impressive, well priced, and value for money---good enough for me!! We will have the credit card machine soon, and a sign has been posted. Thanks LMTU, . I appreciate all of the feedback, The owner of Mata Hari next door Louie was in the same situation when he opened, as most new restaurants are, as many are customers of Mata Hari. Quote
