As the owner of Pattaya Passion has decided to delete the thread about my departure which he started I feel it necessary to make my position plain. I added a post to explain my position to dispel rumours. I guess this is what caused the deletion. The fact that I am posting here should prove to all that it was nothing to do with what others called attacks on me, by Gaybutton. I am posting here with GB's permission.

My leaving had nothing to do with posts on the board re my views on Pattaya, but a lot to do with my view of Pattaya.

I love Thailand with a passion but could not survive much longer in Pattaya. The fact I have a partner (not a bow or any other such nonsense, a Partner or Boyfriend is how we refer to each other) makes a difference I guess. Not wanting to be part of Pattaya meant why should I be part of Pattaya Passions. I was ready to leave earlier this year but decided to give the Peripheral sub forum a go and see if I could generate any passion for life outside Pattaya on the board. This failed.

My online ‘banter’ with GB played no part in it, other than confirm what I had decided was right. To set the record straight, I never felt a ‘bitter attack’. I took what came knowing it would, but as a Mod I was happy to do so, but could not respond as a non-mod might.

It also has nothing to do with the board being opened up. I did not know PP was going to do this and I even got an email on the morning of the day it was opened to say the board was not open. (maybe factual at the time he pressed send, but his decision must have been made). I will say however that were ‘Saturday’ still a member or worse a moderator when the board was opened I would have resigned and left the board on the spot. Especially if done without prior notice which, as GB says, PP clearly promised, in writing on the board to do. Instead he opened the board secretly. Of course it is his board so he can do what he wants.

It has everything to do with priorities. I put my life above any third party involvement such as the Pattaya Passion board. If I want info then to be honest the other forums provide better info, and if I feel the need to get involved in a Thai gay board again it will probably be gaythailand. I have sites to develop (currently teaching myself HTML), a house and resort to build and a business to promote etc etc. I don’t see how Pattaya Passions has a role to play there. Particularly when the owner of Pattaya Passions is so Pattaya centric.

For those who remain on Pattaya Passion consider your options. Contribute and post and make a go of the board, but don’t be surprised if the rules are changed again. Or simply read and don’t log in and let your membership expire, you’ll still be able to read (And I know few read other than the Pattaya board). If you feel strongly, resign. Whatever you decide do it, and stop bitching…. It will only get your post deleted or you banned.

I have not the faintest idea what this long rant is all about!

I have never heard of Pattaya Passions. It would have been nice if Saturday had given those of us who regularly read - and sometimes contribute to - gaythailand.com a succinct briefing on the reasons for his ranting. But then I ask myself, why on earth post this on gaythailand at all??

I have re-read it - and have not changed my opinion. Specifically -

I added a post to explain my position to dispel rumours

What rumours?

The fact that I am posting here should prove to all that it was nothing to do with what others called attacks on me, by Gaybutton

What attacks? What did they relate to, and why were they made?

Not wanting to be part of Pattaya meant why should I be part of Pattaya Passions

So???

The original post was clearly an 'in' post relating to a subject discussed on another Board which I assume is called Pattaya Passions of which I, as a regular reader of gaythailand.com for several years, know nothing. Perhaps I am dense, but I still have absolutely no idea what the post is doing on this Board, other than GB appears to be a member of both.

I have little clue what this is about either and don't understand why anybody would post it here (I never thought this board was a clearing house for cleaning up possible issues on other boards).

I've always had the attitude that it's a bit awkward and inappropriate to use one forum to complain about, explain about, or whatever concerning another message board (seems to me that the appropriate place to do that is the on the board you're talking about).

I've also never understood the burning desire of some posters who leave a board (whether voluntarily or involuntarily or for good reasons or for bad reasons) to publish their public swan song. If there's any place that's appropriate to do that (again, seems a little goofy to me under almost all circumstances), it would seem that the only people that might possibly be interested in the "reasons" would be the posters on the board on which the poster has been known.

Sorry, Saturday, you're probably a good guy but I don't have a clue who you are, know little about the Pattaya Passion board, and (with all due respect, sir) I can't imagine too many people here really care why you're leaving that board when most didn't know you were there in the first place. But good luck in any event.

For those who do not know what Saturday is talking about, he was a moderator on the Pattaya Passions board. He has resigned as a moderator on that board. There has been a recent dispute involving the operation of that board. I was a registered member of that board, but I recently canceled my own membership due to the side of the dispute with which I took issue.

I am going to try not to say anything more about it with posts other than this one or get into specifics because I do not believe in using one board to vent about another. In Saturday's case he posted his message on the Pattaya Passions board, but the message was deleted without explanation within a few hours. I authorized him to post his message here, if he so chose. If he had not posted here I would not have written this post. But since he has, I feel this post is necessary as far as it goes.

Saturday's reference to 'banter' with me has to do with a different mild dispute between Saturday and me on that board. I was threatened by the board owner that he would cancel my posting privileges if I continued to "harass" his moderators. Saturday did not see any of the banter between us as harassment and considered it to be the same as I considered it to be . . . a debate between our opposing positions. However, at least one of my posts ended up deleted by the board owner, telling me I had violated the posting rules. Neither Saturday nor I felt that any posting rules had been violated, but the board owner felt differently. Of course, I kept a copy of the deleted post, but I see no reason, so far, to post it here. That thread has been locked anyway and the issue is old news by now.

I really don't want to get into this any further. I am posting this only for the purpose of trying to clarify what has been going on in light of Saturday's post above. Because I don't want to get too deeply into the specifics it still may not be clear to many of you, but I feel that if I go any further with it then this post will come across as an attempt on my part to discredit the Pattaya Passion board. That is not my intent and I have no desire to do that. Quite frankly I don't give a damn one way or the other. If anyone wishes to see what this is all about, then all you need to do is read the Pattaya Passions board and decide for yourself.

If you have comments to make about the dispute, please make them on the Pattaya Passions board. I do not want this board to become involved with it and I doubt that Gay Thailand would want to see that happen either. I did, however, feel that Saturday has the right to air his views if that is what he wished to do. Now he has done that. I see no reason for anything more to be said.

I also wish to state that if Gay Thailand wishes to remove this thread and/or my post I have no objection.

Saturday, we welcome your postings on GayThailand.com. We hope you post more.

Like many, I have little idea of what all this is about. I like the owner of Pattaya Passion. I have met him on many occasions and he has always been cordial. I posted on his site initially but had to log in often or my name would be deleted and I finally gave up on posting. I do wish him and his site wonderful success and think opening it up is a great idea for them for many reasons.

I tried to read what the story was behind all this and I still understand little. I appreciate Gaybutton adding his info and will admit that I am not interested in one board getting involved in the policies of another board. What policies the owners of other boards have is totally up to them and if people don't like them, they can participate on other sites.

In my years of running this site I can't remember ever banning anyone other than one catty individual. I often put people on Moderated status which means they can't post unless approved by a Moderator. Gaybutton and I have had to set many posts to Invisible as there were issues with them. We try our best to post our decisions and leave them open for discussion and debate. I have been wrong on many occasions and have drove away posters that won't post here. All sites are the same. No one is ever going to like all the decisions that a owner makes on his/her board. It really reminds me of a big family get-to-gather. With a large family, you can never set a date and time to have dinner together without conflicts arising. I know as I deal with his every year at Xmas with my own family. Like all families, we always speak our piece and then come together in the end. Hopefully, this is what will happen with those that feel disenfranchised by this or other boards. We are all part of a bigger family and I hope that people will see the importance of sticking together and to contribute to the family (community).

I don't understand all of the drama going on at the other site but know that those in charge will try the best to address issues as best they can. Often a cooling down period occurs and then people are able to sit back and take another look at the situation.

As I said, we welcome all to post on this site (other than our one banned member). And I hope that many will continue to come here and post. Anyone that moderates a board has a vested interest in the board. It is a unthankful job for the most part and I am sure Saturday is more upset than others because he put more into the board than most. I have been lucky as Gaybutton has been amazing over the years. Thank you GB.

OK GT, you've had your say.

Now, what time is dinner?

You guys really are early risers (or late going-to-bed :o ). At 5:30ish in the morning, isn't it a bit early to be talking about dinner? :p

That's for damn sure (moderating is a thankless job); regardless, I thank those that do it (even if they may be totally insane for taking on the task) as it makes my occasional attendance more pleasant.

Yep, on to bigger and better things - dinner. "Nit noi" spicy, please.

I have never heard of Pattaya Passions.

I also never heard of "Pattaya Passion" and I did not understand the initial post. Then I got the idea maybe it had something to do with the Pattaya Players and looked to see if ***** made the post. Nonetheless, I still find it to be an odd post on this forum even if I do now somewhat understand its history.

Neither have I. Sounds like a daytime soap but this being Pattaya, it'll probably evolve into a Greek tragedy.

. . . or a Roman orgy? :p

To be honest, I left PP some months ago. Not after some kind of dispute, but mainly for the reason that the board is a forum for just a few people and basically nothing new happened on there. That plus the fact that the board loads very very slow, made me decide to move out.
